Codex Arena: Your Impressions
Well, I have to say, I am quite happy with this arena
So far..
Pros
Skillsets are quite tight and it seems to avoid introducing builds that are popular in the meta (shock axe lol, Decapitate is actually fun)
The arena promotes creative and skilled play.
The skills change every DAY (No getting comfy)
1 primary prof of a type per team (No shoveway type crap)
Cons
It seems to be a number of wins before a point is awarded (Good or bad, your mileage may vary)
I'm GUESSING the title is similar in requirements to the Gladiator title.
All in all, I like it

I was disappointed as I am probably one of the few people who still played Hero Battles, playing with others takes more time than I have or you end up with players who are not particularly good, (I used to play at a reasonable level so like to play with others of a similar level). Thing is this seems to have replaced TA completely but ignored HB, I would be happy if the same arena was available but with heroes even if I had to fight me and 3 heroes vs 4 people. Whilst the shrines were exploitable they made for a different gametype, definately dont want to see some kind of defensive play but would have been nice if they added some sort of objectives to encourage you to think beyond kill monk, kill midline, kill any ressed/interrupt res/kill rest etc.

I like how they called all the instruction things and title points honor lol.
But yeah seems quite good, daily deck change is great.
Only played 1 point though so we'll see.
Only thing missing is a full deck list, atm you can do most of it via skills list (k) but then you cannot see what elites the other professions have which is pretty fail but not a huge spanner in the works i guess.
I'm guessing priest of balthazar will do this but atm all he does whenever i go up to him anywhere is give me the "Your accomplishments here in the Battlie Isles..." text.

Air attunement with two other air skills..gale and invoke lightning..No fire attunement with 6 fire skills.
Water line has the most balanced line of ele skills, and 2/5 skills are never used.
If you're going to give us an elite in the attribute, give us at least some incentive to take it.
I'll take HB over this, sorry anet, you failed in my eyes, at least on the skills in the first day, but i'm betting other skill choices will be similar.

THEY DELETED HB FOR THIS! BAW BAW BAW!
Naw... just kidding. I've only played a little bit on my Mesmer, but I found it to be quite a hoot. It was funny thinking up a build and hoping it would work.

I'm not liking it for a few reasons. The main reason is the teams have to be formed, this makes the less liked professions such as Paragons or Dervs from getting teams easily.
Another thing I dislike is that everyone has the same skill options to choose from. When they said the skills would be random I thought they meant everyone would have different skills to choose from on that day. Everyone have the same skills to choose from is pretty stupid because everyone will be using the same skills since many of the skills are bad. People will go for the best elite in the options available so everyone will have the same thing.
Pretty disappointing.

Pretty sure ANet don't hand pick the skills, but randomly put them in. That's why your going to see stuff like this.
HB was absolute crap, and ANet did not fail. They delivered exactly what they said they would - sealed deck. It's TA with limited skill pools. If you thought sealed deck was going to be any different, then ANet failed only because of what you thought it would be.

Dervish has two attack skills, and they both cause Deep Wound, LOL BAD.
New skills every day is win.
BUT, I hope that doesn't mean there are preset templates of skills that will cycle through predictably similar to the Z-Quests.

They gave monks holy haste and healer's boon, but the only healing skill they gave was glimmer. Awesome.

If you have a problem with getting into teams lrn2makefriends. Also dervish and paragons aren't "less liked" they just have a smaller skill pool making their versatility limited, which is bad. Also if we had random skill options some people might get more powerful skills then others resulting into an instant QQ fest about luck.

TBH, glimmers not that bad. Its good bar compression because of low recharge time, and at 14 healing prayers it heals for 108 which isn't bad. Glimmers just overshadowed by WoH, and gets owned by diversion, but thats not a problem a huge problem with sealed deck.

It has nothing to do with making friends. It's about how fast you get to battle people. The battles inside take forever to finish because of limited skills so getting into battles should take no time.

The point was that 2 of the however-many-we-get skills are useless. I wish they had chosen some skill sets instead of just randomly slapping together skills that have no synergy and calling it a day.

If its a matter of lack of people, then more people should do Codex Arena, no? TA didn't have that many people playing it and I always joined matches fairly quickly. Just kill your opponent faster next time.
