Strong Hench + Team builds
Can anyone suggest any team builds that would be strong with 4-6 human players with henchies. We have currently moved to the Hunter's Isle which allows splitting but has good flagstand and base defence.
I would like to get a good idea of what professions are best as henchies and which slots would be best for humans.
My idea is that;
Humans; 2 monks, Runner, Ranger, Warrior
Hench: Mesmer, Paragon, ???
But open to suggestions. I gather i need good defence at the flagstand but still about to split 6-2. I think splitting 5-3 will be too hard with hencies.
The reason i post this is that we would like to start casually playing (hence Hunters as i believe it is an easier map to play for beginners) and also that we don;t have more than 4-6 players on at a time as we are not fully hardcore PvP but would like to play more in a fun manner that is a bit more the core of what PvP is all about in Guildwars and that is... Guild Battles.
Cheers

You can't go too far wrong with the two necro henchies and VoR hench. I've seen plenty of low-level guilds do fine with these kind of pressure builds. You can bring frontline and lineback with barbs, you can go mindblasters + tainted and not frontline at all. The healer monk is OK if you have to use him, his enchant works particularly well with these condition-heavy pressure builds. Just remember think pressure and lame, not the spike meta you generally see on obs.

Luzy Fiera (Mind Blast)
Bellicus (Corrupt Enchantment)
Lulu Xan (Magebane)
Blenkeh (Motivation Para)
Aurora Allesandra (Cruel Para)
These are all usable for stand builds. As FoxBat mentioned you can also use the VoR + both necro henchmen in a hex build that works decently too.
For instance, one simple build to run with the para henchmen is a barbsway:
The advantage is the para henchmen will train your targets and very few people actually like playing a para, the disadvantage is they have some nerfed skills and don't really use all the skills they have efficiently. It does works fine for lower end GvG...as far as splitting though the henchmen are generally fail because you can't micro their skills like you could with heroes.

As said above, the hex henchies are fairly effective, and are probably your best bet.
At low levels it can also be fun to take a hammer warrior with the 2 necros and two monk henchmen and the rest of the team run split builds that can kill things, and run around on a split map (or Imperial if you have teleports) causing teams to lose BYOB style.

yup. i started learning how to play hammer warrrior last night after the suggestions i got from here. i actually got a run of 20 in RA which does;t mean much, but still... i can see muyself taking Hammer with 4 hench and the rest of the team plays split.
should be fun. currently not looking at climbing the ladder, just some more intelligent PVP.

henchway is strongest 8v8 since their biggest downside is their lack of judgement/splittability. that build Krill posted looks pretty strong

Kind of surprised no one has said this yet, but try to get guests first. There used to be legions of mid-to-high level players willing to guest for literally anyone, because the alternative was idling in the guild hall and trolling forums.
There was a stickied thread over at QQ with a bunch of solid people in it.
I haven't actually GvG'd in a couple of months, but you're welcome to hit me up. IGN Vick Smashes Face
If you absolutely must play with heroes, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Don't play the bars that require good decision-making to be good. Don't play the bars that require good movement to be good. And unless you're planning on some kind of dedicated meta-countering split, I'd avoid offensive splitting a ton since your options will be so limited.
But get guests. Your win percentage will go up, at first only when you're guesting, but after you start picking up on things they tell you, it will go up even when they're no longer there.

getting a bunch of decent guests is bad, as soon as they leave you wont have anyone to carry your team
have a good caller / leader or dont bother with srs gvg, guest 1-2 at most and have a good solid core

As opposed to having heroes carry your team? I'm not seeing how this holds water.

How are you finding a good solid core without ever giving yourself guest exposure?
