Yes , people are now running too defensive builds in both formats , and it just makes no sense and isn't fun at all ( 5 defensive chars in HA , or like i saw yesterday in GvG mat , people running 7 defensive chars blocking their base , and 1 shadow form assa going to tank opponent base NPCS , pathetic... )
Anyway , back to the topic , i would like to ask why they didn't make costume brawl arena permanent instead of adding codex.. . By looking at how they described it , costume brawl totally fit the profile . Actually , there are some easy fix that could be made ( like there were many in TA/HB ) , but the only updates we get are : " changing guild lord location in 2 guild halls "

They shouldn't have bothered with deleting TA/HB in the first place and making this trash. there were hardly enough players to realistically support it anyway. besides, I still want my f'in battle commander.

They probably believe many people play the arena , else last restrictions made in update would have had no sense...
However , to use their words , ascalon academy is by far more popular than codex arena , so after almost a year , was it really worth to delete a traditionnal 4v4 arena , and a format where you can play when you want to , and having tourneys.... Noone plays codex , the only people there play on zquest day , and they play it for the reward , not for the arena principle.

ooo havent posted in a while since hb died
codex isnt very fun because theres not much reward. unless they were to update it in a way that it would be better, tourneys/ladder/something other then a title comes to mind.
hb did have tactics, whether they were bad or good (recall teams vs playing the good koreans) and whether you liked the arena or not.
bring back hb/ta yay
actually maybe you shouldnt so i keep busy in life

Adding the Hero Battles map to Codex Arena would bring forth a nice new aspect. Right now, builds always get made to bring as few offence as possible, with as much defence as possible.
This means that most teams try to bring 1 Imba damage dealer (Wounding Strike, Death blossom spammer) some shutdown (usually mesmer) and then the rest defence.
Having split maps would give warriors more viability (as they can naturally split better than D's and S's -Sins suck 1v1 without warrior elites), and would actually bring some tactics in Codex, rather than: "Train the Monk down and hope their team dies faster".
Codex is fun, it has potential to be more, but Anet needs to work on it.

all in all, ca is only fun if the skill choice is good - good as in not too many defensive skills and too few offensive/disruption skills, but either a nice balance between both or having very few and/or fairly weak defensive skills (definitely no woh, or if so, only as a standalone heal so its fairly easy to disrupt) and strong offence with a lot of disruption and damage (strong enough to overpower 2 healers fast enough).
THEN and only then is ca fun.
I have to say that the strong attribute of CA (at least for me) is that i often play professions other than mo - mesmer, necro, ritualist, ele, even paragon regularly come on my to-play list of the day and thats something i'd never do in TA.

Believing more people would play codex , adding Hero Battles map to codex will lead to 2 problems :
- non exped teams would get very easily rolled by exped one ( voice communication , used to splits in gvg/ha , etc.. )
- due to the fact that you can run 4 humans and not 1 + 3 heroes , people would rather go defensive than offensive. You can imagine everyone would take a snare skill in his bar, and then just wait/follow opponent etc.. in order to win .
Codex is fun yes, but it's clearly not better than TA or HB, and maybe something should be done so it is.

1) How is this a bad thing? Should new people beat experienced people then? Or maybe you're just complaining cuz you're one of those ventless swayers (like Anna) who believes every format should get reduced to mere buttonbash because you're too scared/incompetent to run coordinated builds which require ventrilo.
Dind't mean that as a flame, I just don't understand why you would ever want a format as least tactics as possible, and why you'dd want bad people to beat good people. Unless, again, you're one of those many swaynabs.
2) Yeah, then you might win on the HB maps (which still is doubtfull, because all these mini scrimmages will only promote skillfull play -1v1 and splitting-), and you can staightforward /resign on the TA maps.
Clearly there should still be annihilation maps. JUst throw in just as many HB maps (So I gues it's 4 annihilation, 4 HB maps) so that the buttonbashmaps get evened out by the tactics/capping maps.
