Ideally, you should just pick up some cheap 9 tactics shields for everything and swap. If you aren't going to do that for whatever reason, pick whatever is giving you the most trouble.
For example, I usually run either fire or cripple (when I'm too lazy to swap) because I have my personal defense is heavily biased toward kiting. Cripple is obviously disadvantageous here, and fire eles are really the only significant non-melee DPS that is effected by armor.
Blunt is probably the most likely to actually kill you, and I believe that's what most people run if they aren't swapping.
In my experience, fire, blunt, slashing, cripple, and daze are the real workhorses in RA. Daze is rendered unnecessary with heads-up play as all of the threatening durations are pretty easily avoidable. Piercing is usually +damage based when it's dangerous, so the shield doesn't really help. Everything else is either low damage or not seen enough to merit making it your primary shield.
But really you should just swap right before you engage each match.

Instead of Q8 you better make that a R7 so you can handle weakness better.

stick a fire on that q8, and buy a q17/al15 with blunt. Those two will cover 90% of RA.

blunt/pierc/slash/fire/earth/air/water - your goal should be to get all of them on q8 tact shields, because you will need them all.

I only bother with a couple. Trying to sift through a bunch of shields for a specific damage type tends to be detract from watching your ass, and the asses of the teammates that are about to bitch at you for letting them die.

you decide at the beginning which +10 you'll use (usually against the type that can chunk out most damage or that is prevalent in the opp team).

RA is lowend pvp, and 90% of the people will run PVX builds, which are very easy to predict. Almost all eles run Mind blast (nowadays more often Invoke Lightning), so u will need Fire and Lightning. The melee from sins is Slashing damage from warriors most of the time blunt, so u will need Blunt and Slashing also.
I dont take more shields with me in RA, because in most cases its not worth to spend the gold if ur only going to use it in RA
so Blunt Slashing Fire Lightning, maybe piercing since ull fight allot of rangers which in RA will clamp on to u and forget (as nearly all ranger noobs in RA) to spread poison, they are only interested in rupts. so also a piercing one
Thats it I guess. GL monking in the double weekend

you do realise sins do piercing damage, dont you?
moreover, physicals often run conjures so you have to pay attention to what type of conjures they put up and switch to corresponding shield.
not to mention earth kd spam is still fairly common too.
so, as already said, in the long run you wanna get ALL +10 armor types, starting off with fire, air, piercing, slashing and blunt damage reductions.
also, if you're actually letting the daze duration reduction from a shield help you get rid of daze, you or your team are usually done for.

Daggers can be piercing or slashing and you probably don't want to memorize which dagger does what (except: standard pvp daggers deal piercing). But your shield won't protect you anyway because most of their dps comes from skill damage, which is armor ignoring. The 7-17 armor sensitive damage is fairly small and you can ignore that in most cases.

I personally just use a r8, 15 al shield with +30 hp and -5/20 and it works fine. But if your not cheap, go for the other types as well ^^

Wouldn't a -2(enchanted) be a bit better if Vigorous Spirit is stapled to your monk build? It's a more reliable damage mitigator because you just need to apply VS to keep the condition ON. You just keep spear-chucking to heal yourself with VS while charging up your Bonetti's.

Rangers and assassins do almost no damage without their +damage attacks, which are not effected by armor. The only time it's really worth it is if like the other team's ONLY source of damage is piercing damage or if they have a paragon (but it's RA and there are never any paragons).
