Getting into HA
I'm a level 2 "hero" and I am wondering how to get involved with HA after taking some time off from Guild Wars. Right now there are very few people actually playing and everyone wants people with a rank of 9+ which I can't just pull out of thin air. Should I try grouping up with randoms to farm fame, try to find a guild that doesn't care about rank, or what? The hero title is such a barrier from letting people get into HA since most people who missed their shot wont even bother as its a lot of effort to pick up this late in the game... (not that I'm saying the hero title isn't a good idea, as it provides a way to show experience in HA - just that it is an annoyance for people who spent most of their days in PvE/TA/AB)
Also, as a side note, is it more worth trying to get into HA or GvG at this point? I want to do some sort of high level PvP but I'm only choosing HA because I'm actually familiar with it, never tried GvG since I started 5 years ago...

GvG is both easier and more worthwhile to get into.

nope, not worth bothering, anet is keeping "competitive formats dynamic" with their usual inept lack of competence which seems to mean less districts and most of the people left are high rank baddies anyway, eB, FAT etc etc types
go get yourself into a nice chilled gvg guild, and that way you'll both have fun, develop a good friends list and also as a by-product you'll get fame, cause often you will pop into HA for a few rounds whilst you're waiting for ATs etc, stress free fame at that

Worthwile debatable, but easier? No.
As an inexperienced PvE'er you either join a new GvG guild (Which there are a handfull of since gurucup) and get stomped by smurfs and go through a painfully boring process of going in => loosing => going in again => loosing again for several months untill you've learned why exactly it is you're loosing.
You also have the option to join an experienced GvG guild and watch yourself get trolled as everyone says: "need experience, srry".
Then there's the last option which is out of your control, which is hoping a nice person (Floor for example) picks you up and teaches you the ropes. (Though I'm not agreeing with the gurucup behaviour ) Other than that, the reason it's so hard to get into GvG is why it's been more closed off than HA, and essentially has been dead for a far longer time.

Borat is forgetting that anet is keeping "competitive formats dynamic" so soon HA, GvG and Codex will be full of people invigorated by the competitive dynamic
so be optimistic

Don't let the "need" to gain ranks be your own pull factor into HA. If you really want to HA, make sure you enjoy it.
As of this meta and the people who play HA nowadays, I can thoroughly say I no longer enjoy it.

i got bambi in 2 weeks, just find a guild that doesn't care about rank, or find a group that fame farms, then get a name while doing the runs, show good sportsmanship eventually some will remember u and u can go on fame farm runs or even real ha teams with them.
follow directions

i guess some people enjoy farm farming, whatever that is, cause they like their shiney emotes. remember when a load of cc nabs got their phonixes? shiney emoting everywhere
bbway made me almost stopped playing
derv trains mean i never play
but it sure is dynamic, anet have surely not turned an interesting pvp game into a dull skilless turdfest

When it was enjoyable, we played for the glory. It was a surprise to get a map skip and the tournament style of play has always appealed to me (knocking out the opposing team and yourself progressing). And it's a good feeling to hold halls and continue to do so when 2 other teams are trying to knock you off.
There was also rarely a consistency in team builds, balance, rspike, rit spike, fragway, hexway, iway, SFspike, eleball, blood spike and different variations of balance.
Farm builds were introduced to farm possibly the first 3 maps, they had no determination to win the tournament style of play, but just to farm. Gaining fame for me and my guild was an added bonus to playing skilfully. After a certain rank, many of us ignored how much fame we needed for next rank and just carried on winning. It was fun for us because we kept to an honour balance, and we attracted really good players because of it.
There was also somewhat of an HA community (It was mostly the elitest players who keep each other on Flist). It's obviously dead now but it was great banter while it lasted.
Nowadays, you go into UW and then possibly get Fetid or Shrines, but more than likely nobody is in apart from whoever's holding and +1 other team. So you're sent straight to HoH. If you're holding, you only get a match every 12 minutes and my god the amount of restarts gets silly sometimes.
And no one knows HoH tactics anymore....

HoH run sessions have always been a joke to me. most.boring.thing.ever.
also, HA and skilfully have a mutual avoidance policy. honestly. especially in the last 3-4 years.
on a side note, my question was largely rhetorical.

Forgot you always hated HA.
For me, a 28 minute GvG match is boring. I don't find a game of territory at all difficult to understand. The team that challenges your positioning more strongly, should always come out as winners.
HA on the other hand was a lot more fun (6v6 and the last map rotation... This one is dead. I want 2v2-v1 back) and shorter matches.

OP: as a fellow below r9er it is tough, your best bet if you want to HA(thats what this thread is about) is to join a guild that does it and won't bash you because of rank. As dead as it is in HA now the r9+ STILL won't take below r9... anyhow, good luck
