AB Supastarz 4 lif!
People didn't bother syncing at the end, there was just no-one willing to play but the people who enjoyed AB. Who happened to be decent teams.

One of the reasons I stopped playing AB is because the fortress maps (ancestral lands and kaanai canyon) are so boring.

TBH Ancestral and Canyons should be removed. No one likes playing on them, and there are regularly more people in outpost on the neutral maps.
I would like to see changes to the points system that encourage skirmishes rather than solely running from point to point. Something like 30 points for a unique player kill, and 10 for subsequent player kills. Raise the point goal from 500 to 1000, and you have a more interesting format.

I also think that, given the new Imperial Faction system, there is absolutely no need to ever play on the kurzick side when it's at Ancestral. You can get a lot more faction by playing on the luxon side, so why bother on the kurzick side right?
For this reason, a completely new reward system needs to be implemented so that the faction you choose to play for actually has an affect on the game.

Ancestral lands over and over again got kinda boring. If someone in my guild says the map has changed to saltspray (best map evar), I immediately drop what I was doing and go AB because it is such a rare occasion. However, buffing the rewards to JQ was what contributed most to AB's decline, the stale map rotation was more a product of that not a cause. It seems every time I check out AB it is completely dead, but then I head over to JQ and there are sooo many people.

I would AB if my guild wasn't dead, don't feel like pugging.
I used to run a build I derived from our GvG build. Quite balanced. Great at prepping people for GvG and great at winning in AB.
But I imagine I'd have to make puglets get the build and I don't want to be that guy who forces puglets to play something..

Wrong on quite a few points.
The biggest one for most people: Kurz side is easier. On top of the entire "fort" mechanic, the battlecry NPCs are two rangers as opposed to the rit/mes/necro. If you're playing Lux on lands, it's wise to bring a fire ele to clear wall NPCs -- that's an annoying build limitation. You can run whateverthefkyouwant on kurz side and not be penalized for it by the map.
Also, it's not a lot more faction imo. Whether the increased rewards are worth the pain in the ass it is to fight the map as well as the players is up to each player.
Lastly (and here's the reason my guild switched to Kurz once Lands became the dominant map) if all the good players are on Lux side and keep winning like crazy, THE MAP STAYS ON LANDS. Winning on Kurz side helps push the map back out to more neutral territory.
All that said, near the end, the only factor influencing the decision of which side to play was which side lacked twelve players.

Totally miss the AB's here also.
The problem with Ancestral Lands is that the map has been arround for years, people designed tactics for the map as attacking group. This makes it "just one of the maps". The only difference is that the rewards on one side are better then the other. Which in my opinion the reason why it's stuck on lands.
Some idea's:
It might be nice if no matches are played the border automatically shifts towards Saltspray Beach after some time. Maybe in this way, the "deep maps" would become a bit more rare.
Or when teams would be randomly placed in a match on either Side (lux or kurz). This would be non depended on where you started from. In this case
people who sync from one side, might end up facing eachother
In this case maps should be random every 3 hours or so, since team placement is random.

No, JQ was so dead before the rewards buff you had to plan 16 player groups just to carto it. The only reason people play it over FA now is because luxons have a fair shot and kurzicks don't have interminible waits.
Once upon a time you could just randomly jump into AB as well. Players who didn't party up would be randomly added to a party of 4. That's the direction they should go to get everyone playing together in the same mode.

Yeah exactly, remember I had to drag a couple of people to do any AB at all. In the end only the ones of us who enjoyed ab was left. And there wasn't enough of us... ._.

The only way to increase population now is to increase rewards as this game is now grind your HoM for gw2 eve.
If ab were given slightly less rewards as the bonus weekend it would be filled daily. I know I would be playing it 24/7 if there were enough people to actually play.

Fixed that for you. The "PvE Reward" mentality doesn't work for PvP.

Whenever I played AB, I played with my friend's team and we always played on the luxon side regardless. We had no trouble ever and almost never lost a match. It's really easy if you know what you're doing and I'm sure you know what you're doing aswell. One of the first things that I noticed was the incredibly large faction rewards for a win on the luxon side compared to the kurzick side. At one point, I would transfer all those luxon wins into kurzick faction and got much greater points in my kurzick title. I don't really care about those titles since I would only ever AB if my friends were AB'ing but seeing that the large majority of the guild wars population tends to gravitate to wherever there is more rewards and since luxon side almost always wins, if I were them, I'd be on that side. I know this is probably quite generalized and there probably still are people who would choose the kurzick side over the luxon side. I love AB. It was the first sort of PvP I got into and would love if something were done to save it. Whatever it takes.
Also, fire eles aren't the only thing that can take out wall NPC's.
@FoxBat: I never said JQ wasn't dead before the buff.
