Honestly shock axe isn't spectacular in 4v4 since frenzy becomes proportionally more dangerous (especially if you're a beginniner). I'd say stick with Dev Hammer if you want to play a war in RA. You can bring antidote signet if you wish (you have an optional slot if running hammer bash) but I recommend either bringing wild throw (to break stances) or replacing hammer bash with yeti smash and taking overbearing in your optional (daze+perfect quarter knocks)

sounds good. I was planning on learning dev hammer later anyway, so i'll just start with it instead and learn shock axe once iv got some experience. thanks!

RA use to be an ok format for practicing warrior but it's not really anymore. Do AB for more realistic scenarios of say, a split skirmish and thinking about what you're doing in a fluid environment. RA is purely cheap, quick kills against a lot of retarded builds that don't really translate to other formats.

RA was better before Glad title.

-I will stick by this.

Before it was for new players, people trying out builds, or old players goofing off by running less than optimal builds. Now it is just a rage fest of people looking for the optimal team to carry them.

I think the fact that it was prophecies time has a big part to do too....Every bar was ok , there weren't so OP skills , especially for that format... Today, it's all about having a monk , not having 3 melee , having best caster bar , etc.....

It's not like you faced a mo/w + air ele on every fight like i'm getting for about 2 weeks now.... I'm not looking especially for having the best team , but it's not really fun when i'm perma blind whole game ....

Water ele is an antimelee class , but there aren't spammable skills... With a classic bsurger bar , you can simply 123456 on the target and still kill w/o getting hit.... what's fun in this really ??

the real question is why make it an RA title, when it only ever really belonged to TA.

So i've tried monking in RA for the past couple weeks. Pretty fun, though sometimes it really depends on the right composition, I don't have too much trouble. But I find mesmers a big problem, especially in pairs.

Esurge mostly, if paired with langour or Migraine, i usually last for a while but go down hard.

I run :

WoH
Patient Spirit
Rejuv Sig
Draw conditions
Balance Stance
Vigorous Spirit
Bonetti Defence
Contemplation of Purity / Cure Hex

I can handle most things, unless im really unlucky and the team is like built to tear me apart, with esurgers, i try to get mindwrack off me quick and hide my energy, but apart from that not much i can do. I know my bar is pretty much off pvx, but i dont like Spotless, and I dont know what to drop to put in Deny Hex + Divine Spirit.

I also have several spears / 15/7 shields. I run 9 tactics, could I also use 16/8 tac shields? or is there something im missing other than weakness that drops attribute points?

i would just run 8 tactics with 7/15 shields. Also a reason why monking can be quite hard in RA is because most people RA are just people just putting a few skills with the standard skills (by which i mean the skills you get by creating a pvp character), and don't even know what a shield set is. In the little time i played yesterday, i had around 15 teams, and the amount of terrible players (eles with flare while running an earth build, warrior with backfire, hexbreaker etc.) is really high. Those players won't be able to kill anything, and will leave you trying to get those red bars up, when they don't even use a shield set at all.

But about esurge, it's useful to get a 15/-5e spear, and try to switch to your shield set after each cast. If you see languor, it might be useful to watch the mesmer if he casts it, since he most likely will cover it. If you see he's almost done casting use cure. Also holy veil is a good choice to avoid such things, the x2 casting time hurts already for a mesmer, with a high chance of getting rupted, but more important, you won't get exhausted when removing veil. that also counts for diversion/shame

yeah lots of questions.
these monk bars can be changed to personal preference pretty much

balanced is sorta optional nowadays, way less hammer wars these days.

most needed 5 skills imo:

bonetti
vig spirit
woh/burst
patient
cure hex

divine spirit or signet of rejvenation
deny or veil if your not running ds

draw / dolyak / balanced stance / guardian / disciplined / signet of rejuvenation / or any other

Ah I see!

@energy hiding

I've started to practice that a bit more, though not after each cast though.

I've given Veil a try and its working really well. I personally like CoP cause I see so much daze + HEX HEX HEXes everywhere. and wipes it off quick (especially if its migraine) and the pre veil for languor is an awesome idea, i got to use that recently too.

@Dolyak , its seems nowdays i see

Eles Earth / Fire

come at me, and the kd prevention is alright, but I also need to kite away and that hampers it. With BS i can zoom around and even use my own teammate or enemies to bb whatever is chasing me(or dodging Stoning)... Idk ill try it a bit more maybe it'll work out.

Though i hate it when a sin brings Wild Strike. I rarely see stance removal from Derv or War tbh.

WoH, Patient, Vig Spirit, Veil , Bonetti's, Balanced, Draw, CoP

And seems to be doing well. Though the buying of 15/7 shields is hurting my wallet lol.

So many psuedo-wannabe elite players think empathic removal is a bad skill it's really sad.

HURR I DONT SEE IT BEING USED DAT OFTEN SO IT MUST BE BAD DURRR I DONT KNOW JACK ABOUT THE 4v4 FORMAT BECAUSE I NEVER PLAYD TA DERP DERP DERP

Admittedly it's not amazing in the current meta due to being more condition based with Invoke One buttoners running around, but it's still useful if you can make a bar that does it's job without relying too much on an elite ( Rangers, necros, and sins all have useable bars that can do this. )

I got the old G7 without ever playing a monk, couldn't find a build I liked. I Played as an ele or rit healer and got complete runs (25) ok.

Had a match recently where our monk seemed surprisingly durable, he pinged, I copied and it worked well for me, though it shouldn't. One change I made was swapping res sig for draw conditions, which is pretty much all I changed, and I actually like monking now. I shouldn't, but this bar lets me.

Got 25 as monk for first time yesterday.

12 Heal, 14 Divine, 6 Tactic

H Burst (e)
Patient sprit
rejuv sig
draw cond
purge cond
cure hex
bonettis
protectors defence

I only use q9 tac shields too, with disciples, so I thought I'd be squishy. Seems to work ok.

No veil or 2nd hex removal or vig spirit, thought that would be bad, but meh, if there's one hex a decent player will cover or they'll be lots of hexes anyway.
I see enchants as just fodder for necros and mesmers to hex you more or heal themselves/regain energy. Cure is there as it's a big heal, the hex removal is just icing I think.

With such high DF I find a single patient can keep you alive when hexed with migraine+frustration and the other one I can't remember. and spamming draw heals melee a fair bit too.

Daze obviously isn't a problem either, nor condition stacks.

I think the bar is a beginner-to-monking friendly option, as I'm used to running an ele healer (less energy problems) or rit healer (life steal helping to push kills quicker).

things like that are a good indicator of RA-only kings/2010-11 victims.

It's good as long as you have a healer in party.. Otherwise , it's just a standard melee bar getting owned by those air eles you face every fight....

I like playing hammer w/me with leech sig though , considering this big problem....

Leech Sig won't do much. You need Complicate, if anything. Or a Ranger/Mesmer on your team.
