Thanks read through the guide it looks useful. Can't seem to find decent quality videos on youtube, any suggests on what my search parameters should be?

Also any ideas on how to get all the items I need or should be using?

If you are already rather funded, go to AB / RA with a build (Preferably mind blast, bsurge, Esurge, etc) and rake in the Balthazar faction. Spend this faction on upgrades for your armor, or if you're more PvE oriented, just go buy gold items to identify. Chances are you'll be able to unlock most of what you need either way.

This, if you farm them, a great spot for runes is in boreas seabed with the halcyon job quest.

2. immolate
3. glyph of lesser energy
4. meteor
5. rodgorts invocation
6. fire attunment
7. aura of restoration
8. rez sig

enchanting set for aura and fire attunment
fast casting set
fast recharge set

If you're running glyph with mind blast, you suck. Use something defensive so you don't die in 10 secs with a hammer warrior realizing you're pumping more damage than the sin.

If you get a good monk and a good melee just about anything is decent in RA. This is an old build (more or less) which does ok pressure, but there are more effective ways to help your team. I suppose Meteor is a form of support, but ideally as a caster you want to have some combination of damage and support. With this build you're easy to shutdown, easy to beat on and don't offer your team any real defense.

So I found this build that kills anything in about 6 seconds if the other team has no monk, but when the other team has a monk, it really doesn't work.

It goes:

Me/N
1. Illusion of Pain
2. Fragility
3. Accumulated Pain
4. Virulence
5. Distortion
6. Rez

Last two skills are optional. Is there any way to make this work?

Nothing really ever works when there's a pro monk around, especially if your team doesn't have one. Also, rupt rangers and mesmers are a dime a dozen in RA.

Run a hammer warrior with wild throw. Lineback everything that is mildly dangerous to your team. Roll in the glads

good practice in wep swapping too, need a high energy set to pump up your reserves with mblast, then swap back to your 40/40 to pump rodgorts. Swap glyph for either balanced stance, mirage cloak, shieldbash or other stuff that will stop overzealous melees from tearing you a new poo-hole.

If you can get past all the blind, Empathy, Insidious Parasite, Faintheartedness, S.Bash, [insert any other OP'd anti-melee hexes and conditions here], etc. ...

I would like to try my hand at monking in RA. Would the following build be OK or would a better one work for a first time monk?

healing 12+1+1
divine 10+1
wilderness 8

healing burst
patient spirit
vigourous spirit
spotless mind
cure hex
draw conditions
antidote signet
natural stride
