Wasn't implying that it can't be done, however it's still stupid to play any melee without a speed boost.

Nobody runs these two any more thanks to nerfs, but...
[build prof=range/warri expert=8+1 beastm=10+3+1 hammer=12][hammer bash][irresistible blow][crushing blow][tigers fury][ferocious strike][charm animal][comfort animal][resurrection signet][/build]
[build prof=warri/dervi hammer=12+1+1 streng=12+1 scythe=3][warriors endurance][hammer bash][crushing blow][eremite's [email protected]][mystic [email protected]][protector's strike][bull's strike][resurrection signet][/build]
Historically, there have been a few rare cases of popular and effective melee builds without ims or even a shadow step.
On another note, I present MC Hammer-Warrior. I got tired of getting linebacked by wamos in RA, so decided to make a hammer build they just couldn't touch.
[build=w/any hammer=14, strength=10 tactics=10][Earth shaker][flail][crushing blow][hammer bash][defensive stance][enraging charge][bull's strike][resurrection signet][/build]
Just use defensive stance strategically (avoiding enemy kds, attack chains, or just to tank while you build your adren up the rest of the way). Then, with the entire goddamn team on your heels, like they always are for god knows what reason (I'm sure some of you other warriors know what I mean...) earth shaker the target you really want, like a monk or other softie, or at least do it next to the target you really want. Make sure to get yourself in a position to kd the rest of the idiots following you around too. Then either bash the monk as he gets up, or one of the wamos if you need to keep some heat off you for a little longer. Defensive stance or enraging should be up shortly to keep you up for the next earth shaker.
You lose rush, but otherwise it's a fairly negligible difference. Defensive stance can work as a flail cancel if you need it too, filling at least that part of rush's role. It doesn't make you invincible, but it does make you sturdy enough to ignore most melee and continue doing you job regardless of how much heat they throw at you, instead of having to kite around while waiting for some heals and/or the melee to disengage and go kill the rest of your team.
I've seen a similar build with disciplined stance, but on this hammer warrior, I think the defensive longer duration wins out. If you just used earth shaker, the fact that your d-stance just got removed right after the kds is probably not a concern. Unlike a monk, you don't cast or use skills when you're in that block stance, you either auto attack or run around. That, and the +24 armor is a nice little bonus.

I sometimes wonder if I have a massive red X on my back when getting trained by a sin, derv, and warr when my team consists of me and 3 mesmers.

Signet Mesmers for the win!
[build prof=me/mo box Heal=12 insp=9+1+1 fast=9+1 dom=2][Word Of Healing][Signet Of Rejuvenation][Signet Of Humility][Hex Eater Signet][Signet Of Distraction][Leech Signet][Mantra Of inscriptions][Res Sig][/build]
Obviously using artificer's insignia. Fast cast WoH is always amusing.

well it's fun when you go in as escape ranger (WITH A BOW WOW) and you get aggro, just run around and tank, spread poison and still interrupt. no damage on your team and your team can fire away...works too often. LOL

It never fails when I play dev hammer in RA that some cripslash warrior or grenth's grasp sin sits on me the whole round, or even worse a good shock axe that knows when you have a adrenaline camps you just waiting to d-chop dev hammer. Then again I usually lineback them too if I know the weakness won't get cleared and so they don't frenzy so much on softies.

Lol yeah, indeed, my gripe with most melees is exactly the opposite of what people here post. They sit on the monk the whole game and just don't look back. Some also like to overextend a few miles to get that pesky healer. Most always yell: OMG ATTACK MONK FIRST NABS! before our entire team gets killed :S.

What i find really frustrating is having a Magebane ranger on my team when i am monking and see it camp on the enemy monk...this allows the 2 Dom enemy mesmers to happily cast away --> diversion, shame free. Now dont forget the BB sin thats all too happy to come in for the kill when you're all shutdown, and the finally NOOB Monk statement from you team. RA teams are mostly for the lulz.

Usually, the one who goes in first, dies first.
3/4 of the other team are camping you untill you die.
happens me alot when i go "enragingchargewithmyspearforsomeadrenaline"

Decent rangers can yeah, been a long time since I saw a decent p-block mes in RA tho, most are the SoM-dom with diversion and shame only or awful waffle PD's that just spam everything.

That's the fun in being a bow ranger, rarely do you see "in between" rangers. They either are fail spammers that are no more useful then stone dagger ele's ( 7/8 ra bow rangers ) or actually have some skill and can easily count for 2 players, both shutting down and degenerating the other team. ( 1/8 ra bow rangers )
