I agree with arien. one of the most important things about monking in RA atm is keeping your team free enough of Blind, hexes, weakness, Dazed, etc so that their combined efforts of Galrath Slash, Flare and Conjure Phantasm might actually kill something. since the nerf to Shadowsteps, i gave Pluto's build a serious try. it's rather effective, i found - it can run into energy troubles when you're under enough pressure to not be able to spam Sig of Devo, but then i just stop maintaining Divine Boon and go nuts with now-affordable RoF spam. Deny is really nice to screw the curse nec on the other team, when run with a 40/40 Divine set. i'm wondering what the new monk builds will look like since the telenerf - maybe Return (ohai SA sins) / Hex Breaker? GoLE? 8 monk skills? idk atm, but what better time than this weekend to experiment?

RA is nearly unplayable without getting dishonor hex atm, that signet of midnight spam is just obnoxious.

The Arena weekend attracts nub PVEers that want to get easy Zaishen keys. So people plays heavily necroes and mesmers to farm them. I had to modify my monk and my dervish accordingly to survive this atmosphere filled with hexes and enchantment removal.

Don't you think you're giving them too much credit, since you're assuming most of them had the brain to go and look up a build that works, regardless of how gimmicky or annoying it is. My assumption would be that "nub PvEers" would try to enter, but do not realise that you can't use Ursan in RA.

I've been running a pretty standard ZB bar.Haven't had too many problems yet, spamming draw against blind bots can get nrg heavy tho. [build=OwET8Y4Wt5SPTEIaxbSetmgXAA]

I'm usually not one to post in these kinds of threads, but i enjoy running this in RA nowadays:
[Zealous Benediction - Random Arenas;OwUTImHD5Zmcp30CkVy3zmoAAA]
I can usually run without Divine Spirit, but it makes for a fantastic "overdrive" skill that allows me to spam prots like a Channeling monk in HA, for its duration. I don't find the lack of defensive stances to be too bad - a 40/20 ench staff and Guardian have pulled me through many a time, and in International / Traditional Chinese you'll get decent enough players.
tl;dr I hate hexes, and melee is ez to counter.

very fun build to run. can run guardian/ps/sb/shielding hands for soa. :>
Pros:
- can supply a lot of energy
- able to preprot with powerful heals
- good hex removal compared to most solo hybrid builds in 4vs4 that aren't Divert Hexes based
- can tank dazed/migraine without many problems (if you kick soa for another 1/4 cast)
- you're invinsible on deathmatches (stand in lava)
- you can tank for the giggles. LOL
Cons:
- weak to stance removal (a single wildblow and you are done)
- if there's no hexes on you, neither conditions that can be drawn you're doomed and your energy just dies
40/40 protection wand and offhand
-5 spear +30 health, shield +30 +10AL vs whatever
+5 e +30 health spear, +30hp +5 AL enchanted offhand
+15-1x2 wand and offhand
can be very conditional but seeing how nearly everyone has some kind of conditions it's usually fun. and when you run into traps with soa on you you won't be able to stop laughing.

I started using this build in RA, and I really love it. I laugh at all the wounding strike dervs that go WTF WHY HALTH BAR ON MUNK NOT MOVING HAXX, and like you said, it provides superior energy management, so I can spam reversal on the leeroy a couple aggro bubbles ahead of me.For me, it's hard to monk and it is a trait worth learning, This build has helped alot.
But it needs more guardian and holy veil. I also roll with a rez sig for super spikes that even a prot monk cannot stop.

Signet of malice > signet mesmers, it has a way faster cast. They're still obnoxious tho, when I play warrior theres either room for heal OR condition removal, not for both, but especially on a cripslash malice is too good to pass up.

Yeah Signet of Malice does have a faster cast but chances are they're camping you and the rest of the melee on your team with blind, I don't think you'll have a chance to build 6 adrenaline to achieve Signet of Malices removal effect.
To each their own I guess but I prefer Mend Touch or Antidote Signet.

some people like practicing gvg - or just generally good - builds in ra, and good warriors dont waste time healing themselves, they do big domage. even if you ra for glads, you're unlikely to get too many streaks without a monk, and when you have one youll probably want that extra stance/attack skill or whatever you dropped instead of some bad self heal.

TheHaxor, i still run a build similar to yours from time to time:
[WoH;OwcU04nCxvQzEaETECE5VQg1EYhA]
It does a spectacular job when you're trying to keep your team clean, and it also packs WoH (don't suck and it won't get Diverted, switch to a 40/40 set and use terrain / blind the ranger vs. MBane) and RoF, as well as Guardian. I'm in love with Smoke Powder - you can spec higher into Shadow for it, but i find i only need it in emergencies, so leftover spec has been plenty. you can stop sinspikes, DShot, MBane, W/Ps (Strength Stunning Strike is lame), hammerspikes/knocklocks, etc. I use this over shield bash because it's very difficult to switch to your shield set while knocked down, which is one of the times where i find myself really needing Shield Bash, but not being able to use it to any effect.

If you are not going to shield bash somebody, at least disarm him. It breaks attack chains, reset skill adrenaline.

[email protected] strength doesn't disable.
As for shield bash I don't know about you but I sit on a defensive set and switch to the set needed when I feel I need to cast something, so shield bash will work almost all the time.
