Default "Paladin" build <<W/Mo>>

Like i said before, im new to the game, so this is probably a played out discussion.

I LOVE the survivability of a "paladin" type build So i decided to level one up to tweak it how i want in PVP. My thoughts are a Warrior (Hammer spec'd for knock downs, etc) with Protection Spec for the Monk side (to mitigate incoming dmg)

Thinking more about this, and playing it out last night a bit, it sounds great, and i can stay alive for quite a while, but my Damage is crap. (still haven't gotten a lot of the hammer skills to make that viable yet). Is being a pure, tough to kill, tank usefull in group pvp environments, like this game seems to be setup for? It seems to me most groups, if smart, would just leave me alone and go straight for my support group, kill em all, then gang up on me.


anyone have any thoughts on this type of build?

Warriors in general can't do a lot of damage quickly like casters can. Your best bet is to carry a few abilities that require energy and maybe equip Balth's spirit (for more energy).

Warriors are not meant to "tank" in PvP, they are meant to do damage.

if warriors arn't meant to tank.... then who is? and who are you to say which class is a viable tank.... when in fact everyclass can be a decent tank with the right skills

Well he didnt say whether this was for pve or pvp. For pve paladins are great, just get up there and tank. Prot has some nice life bond stuff etc. But persoannly I think paladins work better in PvE with healing (go with breeze and healing hands)

In PvP, paladins are usually not very good at all. If you continue to play defensively, the best you can really do is to Life Bond your monk. This is because enemies arent stupid, they know you can take damage well, so they ignroe you and go for the squishy stuff in back. If you go offensive, you can add strength of honor for nice extra damage, or Judges Insight. SMiting prayers are actually pretty nice. Then again, other proffesions can help about as much or more. Conjure Element from an ele, or aftershock for a hammer war, is usually way more than smiting bonuses could ever give. Id say I even prefer necro for plauge touch.

Warriors are usually the last target since they are much more protected than other classes so it is pretty pointless having a warrior with high survivability when it doesn't add to your team. What's the use of having 3 "paladins" for example that survive the entire battle when 5 of your team are getting owned cos you are too busy surviving?

Im sorry warriors cannot agro mobs in pvp. Lol. Warriors, in pvp are used for steady damage that can run under ranger spirits and never runs out of steam. Protection and healing prayers are not that great, since you will have amonk healing you. Id rather go smiting prayers with Judges Insight for more damage.
(By Pvp I do not mean random arenas, if you do play random arenas bring the protection/healing prayers since the monks are scarce and not very good.)

Well, I though since he said Paladin(A pvp pre build) he meant pvp. If not go prot/heal for pve.

No offence to GWguy but as many people have said before Warriors aren't meant to sit in front and take damage, just doesn't work that way. For PvP W/mo is THE perfect tank build (Had a hard time accepting that ). For PvE I suggest W/E Hammer, W/R Axe, and *Maybe* W/Mo Hammer smiting. If you want the specifics on the classes I can probably help you out. Sword in my opinion does not put out enough damage to even hurt a monk that is part of a good team. Final thrust doesn't compare to Executioner's Strike.

umm to those of you that missed this he did say for pvp. but he hasnt said where he is playing. 4v4 random or team or if he is playing in the tombs. they all require very different builds. Since yes in random most ppl flat out suck.

There is something that every good PvP player needs to know, no character tanks in PvP. Just think about it, in PvE, the tank is the guy that all the monsters attack, so you can focus you're healing on that target.

In PvP, this simply isn't true. A character with pure self-defense is useless, as good teams, and even bad teams, will ignore it right away and go for targets that are doing something in battle.

Now, its important not to confuse 'tanking' with 'griefing'. Grief builds involve a setup with large amounts of healing and defense in order to hold areas, i.e. the altar in Hall of Heroes. A grief build, though incredibly boring, is a viable strategy since it has lots of versatile healing, and it doesn't require that the enemy be stupid enough to attack a virtually invincible defensive character. Tanking on the other hand, is a term used when one or two characters load up on self-defense and take the brunt of the attacks, and that just doesn't happen in PvP.
