Default Deciding on Fow Armor

Dunno if this is the correct section to post this or not, but here goes:

I am slowly but surely building my resources to buy fow armor. I am PVE only, and am trying to figure out which configuration would be the best all around for def on my warrior monk. I think I have settled on the Gladiators Chest and legs for the extra 5 energy (not a lot, but feel it could come in handy in a sticky situation). As far as I know, there is only one helm, and it does +1 to str (correct me if I am wrong) so will go with that. What I can't decide is between ascalon, dragon, and platemail for the feet and hands. There are numerous discussion on whether the ascalon/knight armor is global-meaning one piece gives the dmg reduction to the whole body. I know Anet says it doesn't, but many people claim to have tested it and it does. Also have heard that the dmg reduction from armor does not stack with absorbtion runes. Again don't know how much truth to that. Finally, it appears from the info I have, that the dragon and platemail stats are identical, except the dragon requires scales instead of the deldrimor steel. If that is the case, isn't deldrimor steel a lot more expensive than scales? And since each piece of fow armor looks exactly the same, wouldn't it make sense to go dragon over platemail?

I am just trying to get some input from people and their opinions before I go spend tons of cash on this armor and then kick myself later for doing it wrong. Thanks in advance for all responses.

i wouldnt spend the money in the first place because i think the armor is UGLY. i only like the helm (which i plan on buying) but if you are determined on buying it, the dmg reduction of knights/asacalon is universal with platemail, ive tested it. for example: mergoyles did 0 damage when i had a platemail set with knights gauntlets and minor absorbtion. i took off my knights gauntlets (and the minor absorbtion), and the mergoyles did 2 dmg to me eahc (about 12 if they hit my hand)

Honestly, I like the FOW armor on female warriors. I am at a point in the game, where I have 4 characters, all ascended, all have at least drok armor, all have awesome weapons, and I need a goal. So going gladiator chest and legs, ascalon hands, then platemail or dragon for feet, or does it make a differance?

Buy the 1.5k pieces and test them out. See what works for you then decide on your FoW pieces.

All fissure armor is identical, so appearance concerns go out the window.

There are only three types of armor available - Ascalon, Wyvern, and Gladiator's. Knight's and Platemail are just functionally identical versions of Ascalon and Wyvern, respectively.

Stoneskin Gauntlets are unavailable in the fissure look. In addition, the only helms available are the Wyvern, Ascalon, and Gladiator's helms. The Wyvern helm gives +1 Strength, the Gladiator's helm gives +1 Tactics, and the Ascalon helm has no attribute bonus.

As looks are no longer a deciding factor between armors, your decision is actually brainless - Ascalon boots, Gladiator's chest, legs, and hands, and either the Wyvern or Gladiator's helm, depending on which attribute you prefer. Ascalon should be on the boots instead of the gloves on the off chance that you want to play with a knockdown skill, and need to swap in Stoneskin gauntlets because of it. There is absolutely no reason not to use this setup.

From a utilitarian standpoint, Wyvern / Platemail is all but useless (unless you're using eight adrenal skills), and Ascalon / Knights has no utility beyond the first piece (which does work globally).

Peace,
-CxE

The FoW Ascalon has no +1 to tactics? So I'm going to pay the 15k + materials for a helm that isn't as good as the 1.5k version?

That doesn't seem right. Also Platemail/Wyvern being useless? Gladiators has +20 vs. physical and 80AL while the respective Platemail/Wvyern is +10 vs. physical and 85AL. I find warriors only do more than a single digit of damage when they're using skills, whereas spells even with my Wyvern ensemble deal much more. If you're tanking aatxe or need the energy, then for sure go with Gladiators. Besides, in PvP how often do warriors duke it out?

Isn't it then situational? Even as a utilitarian (if my memory serves me correctly from philosphy class ).

What if you want to take more damage? That would be a reason to not use that setup.

By the way, does anyone know why the hell FoW Platemail doesn't exist?

It might. I know the PvP Knight's Helm doesn't have the +1 to tactics so I based my assumptions upon that - I don't have a grind Warrior.

If you want a Tactics helm and FoW Ascalon has +1 to tactics, you could grab the FoW Ascalon Helm and Gladiator's everything else. It'd be comparable to FoW Gladiator's everything with Ascalon boots, the only difference being the hit locations.

Sure, spells are going to deal more damage per hit than physical attacks since spells come in bigger chunks. No surprise there.

Wyvern grants you 8.3% less damage vs. elemental, but you take 9.1% more damage from physical. If that was the only tradeoff, then things would certainly be up for debate and you could argue for taking either (and I'd prefer Wyvern). However, things are not in a vacuum, and one side of the debate has that sexy +8 energy on it. That's orders of magnitude more significant than the difference between 80+20 vs 85+10.

Hence, useless.

Rarely. Warriors are low priority targets, and slight differences in AL are largely irrelevant because of it. Which is why you take the energy and don't look back. Indeed, they could take the +20 vs. physical away from Gladiator's Armor, and just have it be 80 AL with the +energy, and I'd still use it on my PvP Warriors every single time.

Technically, yes. Practically, Gladiator's is going to outperform Wyvern in virtually every circumstance. You can choose to focus on the 1% of the time when Wyvern is the better set and call it a situational debate, or you can just look at the big picture and conclude that Gladiator's is just plain better.

Same reason FoW Knight's Armor doesn't exist - because it's functionally identical to Wyvern armor. Are you saying that you'd rather spend Deldrimor Steel Ingots than Scales on your pretty but still godawful armor?

I have my 25 Deldrimor Steel waiting in my vault, along with my ectoplasm and shards. I'm hoping that somehow the team implements Platemail into an update in the future. I will, however, not get it if it looks like the other FoW armors, because I think the FoW armor for the male warrior looks ugly as sin. It should look like the armor that the Champion of Balthazar is wearign in the ToA outpost. The one with the crazy skull on it. That would be badass, and be the best looking armor in the game.

But, ANet probably will never do it, just like implementing guild cape toggle option. So alas, my deldrimor ingots will stay in my vault for all eternity.

That is correct for now but I wouldn't like to have an nasty suprise in next free or non-free expansion which alters fissure sets graphics and suddenly your fissure armor looks uglier...or prettier. However, there is still a risk to have uglier one so maybe it matters after all.

I'd Personally Go One of these two:
Dragon Helm (It's Dragon, Not Wyvern)
Ascalon Gauntlets (-2 Dam Reduction GLobally... Does Stack with absorption)
Boots, Leggings, Hauberk - Gladiator for Extra Mana

OR

Dragon Helm
Dragon Hauberk (85 AL + 10 Vs. Physical or w/e)
Ascalon Gauntlets
Gladiator Leggings and Boots

Maybe i'm wrong and its wyvern, not dragon, but whatever o.O

use gladiator gaunts, that way if you want knockdown furation you can swap out the gaunts for stoneskin for a measly 1 energy loss, not -1 damage absorbtion.

The FoW armor is Dragon, that is correct.

Has anybody a screenshot for the materials required (besides Ectos and Obsidian), or can I be sure that there's no difference to the "standard" parts in Droknar/Citadel?

Dont get the FoW armor yet, you really never know what the big summer update will add to the game. There you go and spend all your money on your 15k and then Anet releases new armor/weapons in the update that you want to get ><. Too bad for yooouhooooo

Just my two cents

The 85 armor chest piece is a good investment. Especially on a Hammer Warrior. Reducing that 170 damage chain while you frenzied to 155 is a fairly big difference.
