Talking Great team for Sorrow's Furnace!

Hey guys. It seems that there's officially one type of char that is a very much necessity when going into the furnace. Finally, a support necro is a must!

Here's a good team to have:

3 Tankers: As long as they can absorb the pain and distract the enemy, it's good.
2 Healing/Protection Monks: Either or, doesn't really matter. Just as long as they are well experienced to do their job.
1 Support necro: If not 1, then 2. The furnace has lots of wellmancers of their own.
2 <whatever>: This is to fill in the gap. I had 2 rangers and it worked. 2 eles for nuking only was great too. Both of which had arcane echo.

I was the support necro and I kept the monk's energies full and the team full of health vs the other evil necros.

-----------------------------------------------------
Here's the main skills I was using non-stop:
1. BIP (Blood is Power): With this skill alone, I was able to keep both monks continuously healing the rest of the party.
2. Blood Ritual: I also used this. It's a good extra skill to have to prevent yourself from sacrificing too much health, therefore killing yourself.
3. Well of Blood: Since you have BIP, you only can use this well for heals. With my blood up to 14 attribute points, my wells were able to do +6 health regen. Not only that, but there's a point in the game where you face a hoard of enemies, some which have lots o' wells. It's your job to take those dead bodies before the enemies do!
4. Demonic Flesh: Cast this {RIGHT AFTER} BIP and Blood Ritual since it's based on a percentage of your health, not an amount. I found myself being saved countless times because I had almost 200 extra health. That extra health gave me extra time to use BIP & Blood Ritual on the monks to help the rest of the team out.
-----------------------------------------------------

Those 4 skills were the main skills I was using constantly. I also used rebirth which came in handy to my support skills.

Another tip is to have lots of attribute points in Soul Reaping. I found it very humorous to watch enemies fall, I gain energy, and have enough to lay another well out. Another one falls, I have enough energy to lay a well and a couple of BIPs too!

Funny, this is the first time in the game (in my experience) where everyone at the camp wants a necro like that char is a NEED more than a WANT.

I finally feel accepted! ^_^

Happy hunting all!

P.S. Yes, bring plenty of keys. Everytime a chest needs a key, 9 times out of 10 it's a max damage <something> that's either purp or gold. I hardly ever found something light blue and nothing ever white.

I did a run up to and finishing the leroy jenkins mission w/ 2 tanks, 3 monks, 1 necro, 2 nukers. The third healer actually made life simpler for the party if something goes wrong and a monk dies.

I used 7 henchies. I was curses death necro:
Necrotic traversal
Well of Suffering
Enfeeble
Faintheartedness(should have used shadow of fear)
...
The point was, I had enough death magic that well lasted 30 second of -6 regen. Necrotic did 20 sec of poison. So that meant 20 sec of -10 regen in a rather large area when corpses dropped. Total damage in 30 sec when I had 2 corpses was: 520.
After exploiting a few corpses I just debuffed all attackers.

I was in a sweet Furnace party last night with a necro doing Kilroy and we just flew through it due to us having a really good Necro. He was constantly raising bone minions from the mobs we killed and they were around for ages as he kept healing them as much as he could. When we completed the mission, there most have been like 50 bone minions around, it was so funny to watch. I absolutely must recommend a Necro raising bone minions in Furnace as they provide the ultimate distraction making it SO easy to complete.

If you haven't gone in with an interrupting mesmer you haven't experienced how easy it can be. Then again, I'll take a good mesmer over another warrior on basically any mission.

We beat everything but the priest quest with 1 Monk, 1 warrior and 1 e/mo smiter. The drops were great with only 3 people.

I had a team with 1 tank, 3 monks (1 prot, 2 heal), 1 necro (myself, support with stuff like Enfeebling Blood, Shadow of Fear, Mark of Pain, BiP and such), a Mes that kept casters shutdown and put wells up, and 2 eles.

Team did great.

It's nice that people actually have to take necromancers or live with being bathed in a constant 5 health degen, though the number of poor necromancers I come across there is astounding.

Anyway, my favourite strategy with my necromancer is both very simple, and extremely helpful. I use both well of blood and well of power, and pretty much watch all the enemies very closely, so I can start casting a well as soon as one goes down, and if the body is closer to casters, then I'll throw up well of power, if not I'll cast well of blood. The next body that falls I'll cast whichever well I didn't previously. After that, I'll cast well of blood every for every corpse, unless well of power is recharged, in which case I'll use it instead. With max blood magic and max soul reaping, I can lay a well down as soon as something dies regardless, and they'll last for most of the battle, and usually some time afterwards as well.

It's fun to see the entire battlefield glowing green, everyone in your party having 10 health regeneration and 2 energy regeneration. The rest of my skills are whichever blood skills I'd use to damage an enemy, except for a raise spell or signet and blood ritual for those times when 6 energy regeneration just isn't enough for a monk. I had a great team for Orozar's quest where wells probably saved the day, but that's another story for another thread.

I'd be interested to see a death necromancer played well. As I've said, every other necromancer my monk has partied with has been... less than useless... I also find it odd that I've yet to see anyone else use wells to the extent I do, or for that matter, any corpse exploitation at all.

My favorite character is my necro. What astounds me is the lack of people with an understanding of the necromancer. Most people think of a necro as the traditional minion master (which I agree, I haven't seen any other form of death-romancer played but this) or as a battery. Of course I'd bet the people who play bad necros are the same ones who play the W/Mo screaming "Gimme blood rit I'm out of energy!!".

Anyhow, the Sorrow's builds I like best for my necro are:

Solid Blood:
Well of Blood
Well of Power
Blood Ritual
Demonic Flesh
Rez (sig is good, any will work)
...and three other skills. I normally take Vamp Gaze and Life Siphon so the monks never have to watch my health. Will also take Mark of Subversion in case the team misses that Priest in the back rezzing his buddies.

This build should be so obvious even a monkey could run it. Spam the wells, toss a blood rit on the monks when necessary, and make sure not to let any bodies sit around for the evil necros. I have used this a few times and it worked nicely.

Solid Death:
Animate Bone Horror
Animate Bone Minions
Blood of the Master/Verata's Sacrifice (or Death Nova for Bone Bombs)
Well of Suffering
Consume Corpse
Necrotic Traversal
Grenth's Balance
Rez

The straight Death build is very hard for me to work correctly. CC and Grenth's generally keep me healthy enough to keep the minions moving. I prefer to toss wells around rather than Necrotic Traversal so I can stay out of the fray as much as possible. I've been toying with trading Greth's for Tainted Flesh and just make sure I stay in reach of the monks. What makes this a hard build for me is the lack of Blood Rit or any kind of healing spells. I have to estimate the monks' energy better so they can concentrate on the party members taking damage and not worry about healing me because I jumped into the middle of 5 baddies...

What I mostly use is a variation of the two:
Well of Power
Well of Blood
Animate Bone Horror
Verata's Sacrifice (or Death Nova for Bone Bombs)
Vampiric Gaze
Blood Rit
Soul Feast
Rez

This build allows for regen of party members, extra allied bodies to take hits, and enough life stealing to keep me alive if I (stupidly) get conditions from the minions. I'll run this with 11+3 Blood/11+1 Death/8+2 Soul Reaping so I'll be gaining enough energy with each death to throw down the next well. Wells last long enough I can have four or five up at any given time. It is a very corpse oriented build and generally won't work well outside of the jungle or sorrows, but played right it works very well indeed.

P.S. Before I get flamed for my terrible choice of skills... try it out. You might find you like it.
