1 ED mes is alrite... 2 ED mesmers is devastating... 3 is overkill. It's really as simple as that. A lot of top guilds run 2 ED mesmers. It really goes a long way. Domination 4tw!

Dom mesmers can shut down stuff other than Monks... 3 is not overkill, depending on your aproach of course.

Hell, I am probably going to try and convince the guys to run a 4 Surge/Burn 1 Warrior build for a night during the ladder freeze. Purely for experimental purposes.

Thing I don't get with E-denial is this:

You are a mesmer and you have to basically concentrate on one target, a monk or even another mesmer. Sure, if you have one E-Denial for every monk then you can knock off their monks easily with the help of 2 warriors, otherwise, there will always be an monk that can keep the drained monk alive.

My point is is that it's still one man for one man. Also, you have to concentrate on that other man. The minute you're disrupted, your effort is gone.

I agree with some of the other posters in that it is better to use the mesmers as interrupters, and spammers of the various devastating hexes they have. I mean, weren't mesmers meant to be a profession that is best used to attack multiple targets?

I've always seem mesmers as the element of chaos in matches; they essentially throw wrenches into peoples machinations.

You are exactly right. It is basicly trading two characters for two characters.

But which do you think will win in a flagstand battle, the team which is down two mesmers, or the team which has no prot/healing?

Think though, if a team is running 3 monks, and you deny two You have 3 other damage dealers that are able to pile on the last monk.

In addition the mesmers doing the energy denial can join in on the spike causing it to be 5 on 1 monk.

It simply works like this, each mesmer has a target, once they notice they are not taking away max energy they call it to their teammates. When both enemy monks are having energy issues, the pressure build turns into a spike. Your warrior runs up to a target and with the help of the 4 other allies, spikes him down in 1/2 second. Eviscerate/orb/shatter/shatter/ etc. then the mesmers return to denying the monks of their energy.

It's not that simple. You forget you're also fighting 5 other characters besdies the monks. These characters can interrupt you, push your mesmers around or simply mitigate damage. You've to have a build designed to work around all the things a team is going to throw at you.

I have to agree with Hella in that having 3 energy denial mesmers is overkill; in addition risky. Suppose you end up facing an iway team; denial's ability to lockdown targets goes down the tubes.
