Thumbs down Fort Aspenwood

This post is directed to all Kurzicks who are sick of aspenwood. A plan is forming to boycott this mission. You can start showing your support by not doing Fort Aspenwood and going to jade quarry instead and also by spreading the news. Thank you.

When playing as a Kurzick, I've only seen a bonder once. Just once.

Then we lose.

well, i am a luxon myself, although i don't do aspenwood a lot. it seems to me that it would be a bit harder to win as kurzick because not only do they have to defend, they have to send out amber runners as well, right? i'm not sure as to how the whole god's vengeance thing works or whatever it is they have to fill, but doesnt that only fill up with amber turn-ins?

not necessary

I've played Fort Aspenwood from both sides and it seems pretty balanced. It all really depends on how good of a team you get, which of course, is random.

Default Boycott Aspenwood (kurzick) YES OR NO!?!

I have to agree with you on Aspenwood. If I want to play at the Jade Quarry i need to go to every city in cantha and message the dedicated players to join me there otherwise it will not happen. I have fought extensively on both campaigns (luxon & kurzick) and the kurzick side is less forgiving. I won't complain about balance but I realy do wish that I had the choice (aspen or jade q). I propose all kurzicks who agree with me to join in the boycott of aspenwood, if there are no kurzicks then it follows that the luxon will need to go to where the fight is. I think if more people had exposure to Jade Quarry they would understand it and like it for the challenge that it is. So let's hear what my fellow Kurzicks have to say, will you or will you not boycott Aspenwood, if not for just one day!?!

If that's the caase then it must be by some divine reson that the Kurzicks are somehow getting all the crappy players.

Truth: Aspenwood isn't exactly balanced. Neither side has crappy players. Both sides have equally skilled players. You can see this in Alliance battles where in balanced maps, the Kurzicks always most of the time manage to keep the battle lines in the Luxon territory.

If Aspenwood were to be as balanced as the maps in Allicance battles, the poor Luxons would lose like hell. We all know Luxons hate fair matches.

The problem, as I see it, is as follows.

Fort Aspenwood (Luxon) favors players who like to run in, blow crap up, kill things, and go generally hellwild on everything in sight. That's fine and dandy, as that is the basic mentality of most Guild Wars players anyway.

Fort Aspenwood (Kurzick) favors players who use strategy, teamwork, and a bit of good old "brain over brawn" might to claim victory. Sadly, people are people, and the people that play on the Kurzick side tend to have the same mentality as those on the Luxon side ("Leeeeroooooy!!!", anyone?). As is plain to see, that doesn't quite work out in favor of the Kurzick side... On the plus side for the Kurzicks, the fate of the team can be tipped in a favorable manner by having just a few competant and right-minded players hanging around. A good Ranger can pretty much keep the Orange side covered (with exceptions of course). Not too sure on the Purple side yet (I'm that lone Orange Ranger most of the time, sadly) but I'd assume it's pretty much the same. A good monk or two can save the day when the Luxons get too far into the base and.. well, you get the point.

It's all about how people think, in my opinion. As soon as more Kurzicks start thinking like defenders, Fort Aspenwood will show the balance that is truly there.

Yes! I will boycott Fort Aspenwood. It is a fun map, when you get to be an Amber runner, and not just protect all the time. But I bought the game so I could play ALL the content. That includes the Jade Quarry.

QFT.

Luxons boycott Jade Quarry! Actually, no, please don't, I'd like Jade Quarry to have sustainable play all the time rather than being so rare to get in that the first few games always have afkers.

Hmm,

I'm quite sure I've won more than I've lost at Aspenwood as a kurzick, and thats even before I started bonding. I haven't found it to be unbalanced but that doesn't seem to be the general opionion. Once in a while I have a problem with ff leechers which kurzicks love to complain about, but I can't imagine its much different on the luxon side. I think it does take more thinking to to suceed as a kurzick on this mission but I think that is where the advantage lies for the kurzick side. It seems rather straigtforward for the luxons, and with little thinking they can succeed. Its not as simple for the kurzicks, but I think that there is a greater chance of being able to use planning and coordination to your advantage, there are more possiblities I think.

Like i said previously, the question here is not about balance at aspenwood, it's about a vacant Jade Quarry. Currently the only way to get matches there is to message in the major cites (kurz & lux) to get like minded players to come. IT works yes, but there should be a day where everyone is exposed to it without effort. Anet had a chance to entice players to come and it didn't work. Now it's the kurzicks turn to try and do something about it. Abandon Aspenwood for one day and only battle at the jade Q. I think the winners will find it a great place to ff farm (10 minute battle max!) and those who don't need the faction will enjoy the challenge and fresh arena. Plus no siege turtles attackin

I think the luxons have an advantage, can't explain why i think this, must be experience. When i played the kurzick side i won more then half the games (and yes with the distinct feeling of being the one that makes the diffirence as repairing the gates seems to be lost on some people. However when I played on the Luxon side..... well lets just say i think i lost 3 out of 70 or so times.

I think ArenaNet really needs to start promoting different gameplay formats at different times, to encourage and organize people to play there.

Even if they only announced that "This is the weekend of the Jade Quarry", that would probably get enough players there to at least PLAY. Ideally, they could swap in some tiny, temporary bonus rewards for playing on those maps (bonus Faction, Gold, or XP for the players / winners). Rotate this between Jade Quarry, Fort Aspenwood, Alliance Battles, Team Arena, Random Arena, and Hall of Heroes. (Arguably, GvG already has huge bonuses in that it's the official format for the world champs & sundry events.)

Something like this, announced once per hour in the game for a period of a week (for example) would at least assure that there would be times that all game formats would get played (and players could plan to play then).

As it is, you still have to essentially get lucky to find players in Jade Quarry.

Why the hell does everyone have to call the Luxons dumb or take potshots whenever we make this comparison? It's childish, immature, and lowers you to a level of those that spam it Aspenwood at both sides. There is such a thing as respect among enemies.Yknow, Ive actualy seen an OFFENSIVE Kurzick team beat a Luxon team into the ground. It was the most surprising thing I have seen there yet.

Its simple to keep the turtles at bay, and, to be honest,I have an easier time with the Kurzicks playstyle most of the time(Not saying I cant lay down some damage ). Ive played the Kurzick side multiple times, and its quite easy when you have people that know what they are doing.

From all the AB type maps I've played, it almost always favor Luxons unless we're into the kurzick territories, which has been happening alot lately. In every "Balanced" maps, Luxons always manages to cap 3 by the time kurzicks cap 1, I assume the "balance" on these jade and aspenwood maps have some favorism to them as well. Then again, I assume ANET is just following the natural lore between kurz and lux as luxons are supposedly killers who valor fight, while kurzicks are supposedly defenders who treasure knowledge. Its reflected in game, thats why in ethran keys, Luxons have the high grounds and much closer caps, while kurzicks are placed in on an uphill battle and have to use stratery to win.

I do notice that in a straight up fight, luxons usually get massacred unless they greatly outnumber a group or player. Luxons are good at staying in a parade too, most kurzicks have the luxon mentality, while luxons people seem to have some kurzick mentality, strange.

Are you aware that Etnaran Keys is in Luxon territory? Of course it favours the Luxons. If it didn't, the battles would be pushed straight into Kanaaki Cliffs and would hardly ever come back to equilibrium.

yeah, it's easier to win as a kurzick, you just have to wait out the timer.

as a luxon i rarely see more than 3 people on the kurzick side that know what they're doing. if more than 3 know what their job is and have a toolbar to match it then it's impossible to win for the luxons. most luxon teams tend to suck as well but it's all offensive skills which people favor on average regardless.

here's a hint for you, whenever i start aspenwood i ask if anyone else is bringing enchant-breaking skills and the response is usually:

...

which is unfortunate.
if i had a nickel for all the smiting monks, channeling rits and idiot warriors that do nothing but chase down players on the kurzick side, i'd be rich.

thank god though, most luxon teams are full of idiots that wouldn't be able to handle a kurzick team that knows what they're doing.

1 thing i'm left wondering after playing aspenwood so much:

can i have the MAGIK HAAT?

(maybe you had to be there)
