Angry People Ruining AB

Lately What iv been seeing is that few people When they Join an AB Match on Our side witch im Playing Luxon after 3 or 4 mins into the match they get them selves killed and Sit AFK at the Rez Shrine or Base for the Rest of the Match. Witch Obiously is Just to Get Free Fraction without doing anything. This is obouisly Ruining AB cuase when it Happens were 1 guy Short or last match I played today we were 2 Short.

We Cant just leave becuase Most of the Time they Wait and play Normaly till we Start winning or get a good start then they go and Sit AFK for the rest of the Match.

This is just like Leavers In Random Arenas sorta Thing I dont know if anyone else has come across this , but I was first told of it by some of meh Friends and havent seen it myself until about 2 days ago.

I dont think its Quite Common but still iv come across it a few times and its just dumb. But then again if two or three people do it first and everyone else sees it then they can think to them selves well Maybe I can do this too and Not have to do anything anymore when I go AB.

Post what ya think.

Considering Anet's best idea for solving the leecher problem was punishing the people that got stuck with them and encouraging people to leave games early, don't expect a resolution to this any time soon.

faction, not fraction

AB has always had some selfish people. Few days ago one person left after complaining about something, shortly, another 3 people left, leaving one team with only 1 person. Unfortunately, it seems to be the way it goes

Its certainly irritating, but ABs tend to be so disorganized that losing really isn't that big a deal. Just get in a new group and try again. Plus, on some maps you get 2 or 3 times as much faction for a loss.. even if there's a leaver its still worthwhile to play and do your best.

Further, Anet's AB servers are terrible. People get disconnected constantly. I'm not blaming that solely for people leaving, but I think I see "____ has lost connection to the server." as much as 5 times a match. If they were to punish leavers, I fear it would affect a lot of us who don't deserve it. I'd much rather put up with the occasional illegitimate leaver, myself.

If u see a lot of leechers just leave, its the best way to punish them

The best way to avoid leechers is to talk before u start the game, ask them to ping their skillbar or whatever, just make them say something. If they don't respond kick em. Your party members will understand that. If u use the ping skillbar "trick" then u get to see their bar as well. If the bar stinks greatly try to get it improved, by being constructive in your criticism. If they don't wanna improve and u don't wanna put up with their scrap, or they can't explain their bar, kick em as well. Non-cooperative players are bad as well.

usually people leech right from the start, except one that is very famous on luxon side, he/she usually stops doing anything when things don't go as he/she wants. Then he/she starts chatting from the base, which isn't really helpfull either. I think of it as excuse leeching, cause he/she could also just leave and roll into a new game, but I think he/she still wants the faction. There is indeed nothing new to this phenomena.

It's free faction, free money (not much, but it adds up), and a free title. Of course people will leech. Since the beginning of this game, there are those who will try to get something for little or no effort.

Have people ping their skillbars, make them communicate, kick them if you're suspicious. Add decent players to your friends list and ask if they'd like to team up in the future.

It would be cool if Anet would add an Enemy list, so that people you add to it could not join your team again without a warning box popping up. Over time it could force leechers, RA leavers (maybe a stretch), etc, out of joining groups at all.

"Leecher LFG, need 3 more leechers." Ha.

This pretty much sums up the whole problem.

No.. Everything (aside from FoW/UW stuff) in gw is 'free'. AB is only easier to get them in. same goes for title.. i dont remember the mapping title ever costing people a single cent. The whole problem would be that a team can be succesful even with a leacher, or the losing team still gets enough faction that it is attractive to leachers to just sit in on battles.

Why not introduce bonuses as mini-rewards for people who do very well in the battle? example..

Golden Feet Award (Most Shrines Capped): Wamo Warrior
Blood Thirsty Award (Most Kills): Takanuya Hihamoto

bla bla bla, and each of these awards gives say.. extra 500-1000 bonus faction.

THEN give a title based on each of these things, say.. have to get Golden Feet Award 100 times for first level.. stuff like that to make titles more coveted, and make people WANT to actually play rather than just leach.

I like where your trying to go, allthough such awards may also lead to unwanted side-effects:

This is why you guild group, Pugging is stupid.

If you do pug though, ALWAYS ask for a ping and ask a random question. The leechers will drop before the ping.

Haha.. yea i didnt think of that.. well i guess there are ways around it.. like with ksing just give the kill point to all people who helped do a significant amount of damage.. say.. 30% of his/her health? That way so long as you did a lot of damage then it wouldnt really matter.. same goes for capping, if you capped at least 60% of the shrine, then you get A point.. so at the end of the match who ever has the most points for the award gets it. Thankfully.. a lot of awards wouldnt need that, eg. least deaths, most healed least damage taken etc.

probably would be really cool to have a player of the match award that got all round the best stuff, like most distance covered, most shrines capped and most kills.. averaging that out to give out a big super award.. unfortunately that would just promote a more 'im gona solo everything' attitude..

i dono how you could award someone based on a team work kinda thing :/

So true had one today went off as soon as we added him (to fill group), he went afk straight away, so /kick ^^.

Anyways guild/ally teams are the way to go pugs (espicially sins, sorry for generalisation) seem to like to run off on their own get beaten badly then go for it again , besides guildies/allies will be able to run complmentary builds easier, cripshot + nuke + monk + warrior lovely combo

Default suggested solution for AB / aspenwood etc

I have thought of a simple solution to this as well as Aspenwood leechers and probably most over PVP scenarios.... if someone has already suggested then apologies in advance...

The game should detect the presence of a person at a ressurection shrine and if they are still there, say, 30 seconds later.... apply the penalty of removing anything they gained during the game and kick them out and add some other form of ban to them, leave that to arenanet to decide

To keep the team numbers fair, I was thinking of perhaps having other players who are waiting to enter a game an option on there character to allow them to join existing games to replace the drops.. I am sure a lot of players would happily join an existing game. A simple tick box such as "Available to join existing games."

The flaw with my idea is that it would possibly encourage players to leave if their team is losing.. but.. again.. this could be recorded against those users accounts and maybe apply time penalties or similar for them when they want to join the next game.

Ya pretty sure this was said in another topic.. whatever.. as for letting another person join back in, this def does not work and probably WILL NOT work in any gw games because of the code. i know that in pve yo can 'lose communication' and reconnect, but once you go grey (you name in the party box thing) you cannot reconnect.. maby we can look forward to this in GW2, where people can leave and join instances by joining new groups like in WoW, thats something im really missing from quiting wow :/

There are anti-leaver/anti-leecher mechanics in the works. I don't have specific details to share, but it should address the concerns you are sharing.

punishing leavers and leechers won't work, simply because a person with a shaky connection will look like a leecher, and a person whose computer crashes will look like a leaver. there's no sense punishing people for that.

a much better idea is to compensate the team who lost a player due to leaving or leeching. simply make the game spawn a generic npc and make it follow the team leader if a certain member of the team stops moving for 30 seconds or leaves, attacking based on the standard AI. trust me, most of the npcs in AB are better than the players. especially the elite elementalist.... that thing's stronger than 99.5% of the players.

if i'm not being clear enough, i'll sum it up here:

if a person leaves OR stops moving for 30 seconds, a random generic npc spawns and follows the leader of the team. this npc can be warrior, ranger, or elementalist. it will be level 20 and have the same builds as the elite warrior, ranger, or elementalist respectively.

this npc will follow the leader in the same way as the elite warrior, ranger, and elementalist, acting in the same manner.

if a person who stopped moving for 30 seconds, then start to become active again, the npc will disappear.

Having bonus faction for individual 'accomplishments' is just gonna spoil it. Reward for most kills? Every reward who can spell QWERTY will roll an SP sin just to get the bonus. Reward for most shrines capped? Hero Battles are already shit for this reason, don't bring it to AB. Capping is important but i'd rather actually come across some human opponents once in a while. And that would just force people to roll E/As to solo cap, with speed.

Punishing leavers/leechers... man i can't wait to see how crap this system is once Anet finally get it up and running. If they'd of pulled there finger out 12 months ago they could've had this implemented ages ago and have worked on improving it. Now people are just going to be pissed at Anet for giving us too little too late.
