Default Two-person team set up?

I and my significant other both have copies of this game that we got recently. We got the Platinum Edition so we're out Factions for the moment. Anyway, we basically got this as something to do together so we're really only going to be playing together. For the most part, we both like kicking butt. I don't mind playing a tank who mostly distracts the enemies and takes the hits while others bring in the pain on the baddies. However with the sheer amount of information and possibilities out there for even individual classes (let alone the fact you can have two) we're getting somewhat overwhelmed here. The thing is, we are guaranteed to have the other person there to back us up, which means we'll always have a party of at least two people.

So our question is this: What would be the best combo for a two-person party given that neither is going to be a healer/support/disabler type but more the kick butt/hold aggro type? Professions and builds suggestions would be helpful here. We just got the game, so if our current guess (an E/- in Fire and a W/Mo in Tactics/Healing Prayers) turns out to be stoopid, we won't have much trouble changing it out to anything else. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the game.

To get started i think you have the right idea. You as a warrior/something and her as an Elle/

This was similar to how me and wife wife started except i played as a monk to keep her alive no matter what and we just used the warrior henchmen to hold aggro.

Most of the time you will need to use either heros or henchmen when you are learning. There are 2/man builds but they are generally for specific areas.

Good luck and remember to have fun. Once you run into a wall and just cant take on whatever you are trying to take on, take a look on here for help or check out pvx wiki for some insight as to different builds.

But at first just experiment and play with what you think is fun at first.

Just what i have observed

^ he has a good point make sure you have fun with what your doing and war for tank is always good and a w/mo would have to be the easiest to help that to help out you might want to have the other play an e/me for arcanes echo and echo possiblities on good nuking skills to start out. other then that make sure to have fun and maybe even find a good guild you both like to join. Hope it helps and Welcom to the game.

Welcometo Guild Wars, it's a great game. Since you are just starting out I will tell you that GuildWiki is your friend. You can find information on just about everything dealing with the game there. Near the bottom is a link to the PvXWiki that natespizer mentioned, it's usually a good place to get build ideas (not always though). Starting off with a warrior and an elementalist is a good idea. The thing about Guild Wars is you really can't run areas outside of the beginning areas with only two people. You will always want to bring the henchmen with you. They're not the brightest, but they get the job done. They are typically better than other players, and far more mature. Take whatever healer henchmen you have available and then go for damage dealers. One melee range is always enough. As far as builds go I would suggest you just play the game, get a feel for it, and find out what works for you. The limitless options of Guild Wars can be, as you said, overwhelming at first, the best thing to do is get some experience under your belt. Hope you enjoy the game.

Tragic that those newcomers soon will find out that there are only one way to go in PvE.

Actually, there a re many ways that will work in PvE (especially Normal mode)

In hard mode, builds will need to be tweaked but you can still get away with inefficient, FUN builds

Awesome - I wish I could get my wife to play GW. As others have said Guildwiki is the absolute best guide to the game - it also has a section for new players.

My wife and did play Diablo2 together, so I'm sure I'll eventually convince her to play GW. You 2 enjoy the game - I've been playing for 33 months and really enjoy it. It's especially great for playing with friends or significant others.

Guild Wars is a team game. Going through the whole game with only two people is going to be very difficult without henchies.

If you have Nightfall, be sure to take advantage of heroes

First of all, welcome to Guild wars and GwG forums.

Secondly, you are definitely going to need more than two people to clear the harder areas of the game. Also, I don't recommend trying to be a pure tank, as a warrior its best if you go pure damage perhaps with some support skills. Warriors have sufficient armor so that they can survive the front line while they get heals from the monk/ritualist.

Anyway, have fun with Guild Wars.

Welcome to guild wars. just a few pieces of advice:
1. FYI. you cant tank in guild wars. (some people are stupid enough to still try) they nerfed it not long after the game came out, so your strategy of "tanking and holding aggro" isnt gunna work so well. melee classes deal damage, they dont dank.

2. Play through the game, and when you get to lions arch do the quest to get to eotn. once you get there, get a few heroes and go back to prophecies.

3. get off guru. this place is going to confuse you more than it would help, and you will end up bringing up a million questions that could be answered by simply playing the game for a few minutes.

check out http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page instead. they have new player guides and things like that. wiki is more of an information database that will help a newbie. guru is an information exchange, and you dont bring much to the table here, yet.

the biggest thing is to just play the game. you cant mess things up to bad. most things can be changed eventually.

good luck

and if you need any more help feel free to contact me in game, but always check wiki first. IGN: Celestial Coloneh

I know back when my old roomate played he and I rolled up alot of stuff with just the two of us.

Both of us were Necros, Him a minon master and me on a Curse Necro.

We got though all the 4 man areas of Ascolon and then most of the 6 man ones as I recall. Then he stopped playing and my Necro still just sits there.

Having only two people obviously makes it more difficult, but it's definitely possible. I recall one thread about someone soloing prophecies with a warrior. If anyone can find this thread I'd like to see it again. ^_^
