PvE HM: Monks x Paragons
I keep wondering which of these two, Monk or Paragon, would make the strongest support class in PvE Hard Mode.
I have ruled Ritualists out, because as good as they are, unfortunately their primary attribute is bad enough that a N/Rt or E/Rt can get their job done instead.
I'm debating myself which of the two, Monk or Paragon, is better when played by an human.
Player-controlled Paragons have access to Save Yourselves and There's Nothing to Fear. The infamous inbagon is pretty good in HM but the profession seems less versatile than Monks (2 pips of regen, less farming builds, etc).
Monks on the other hand have Seed of Life (not that great?), and protting is usually much better done by players than the AI who seems to spam prots randomly. A well placed Spell Breaker, Protective Spirit or Spirit Bond can save the day. On the other hand, the AI seems unbeatable on "speed reflexes" for healing, hex removal and condition removal.
If you're to pick one to make a main and hunt titles, which one you would take? Monk or Paragon?

paragon.
it's the most imba build in pve, you can't replace it with a hero or hench, and sitting around healing ai while they take their time killing stuff sucks.

I tend to like both
I got all my titles on my monk and have started on my para. Monk is going to be more diverse in what you can do with all skills available but to get the job done the paragon is going to win hands down. God mode makes the game very easy. After I have shown people in my alliance what a paragon can do they are ever asking me to bring my paragon to help them vanquish.

You first asked about support character, then said you are making this as your main character, so I'm not entirely sure what you are searching for.
Anyway... I have a para that I use as an imbagon most often in HM. There is no area of the game he can't succeed (in pve), though there are only a handful of skills that get swapped out from place to place. I found some variety by having some motiv builds and some command.
I also play a monk. There is quite a variety of ways you can play a monk, and you'll never have trouble finding a group for anything anywhere when you are a monk. The less-experienced pugs out there think that pgons are just pansy spear-chuckers. They have no concept of what the pgon actually does for the party.
However, if you roll with heroes, I have found that it can be frustrating being a monk, because it's a pain to flag your heroes in to grab agro instead of doing it yourself. Some people don't mind, but for me, I much more enjoy monking for guild groups or pvp, rather than chasing titles with heroes.
Pgons don't farm, so save yourself a bunch of time and forget that idea if it ever creeps into your head.

support characters are characters who play a supportive role in combat. main characters are a player's main focus for pve advancement. they have nothing to do with each other.

Nothing prevents you paragon from playing something other than imbagon. Especially if another para can be the imbagon.
Cruel spear paras can do nice damage and bring some nice damage boosting skills.
Expel Hexes paras can be a nice backup in heavy hexes areas (yeah yeah, mobs keep recasting, but heavy physical teams get killed by purples).
Then there are some nice shouts that in a guild team designed to abuse them are always nice.

Paragon if you want an "I win" button. But pushing that same button over and over can get boring. Even non-imbagon builds aren't that fun because they lack the I-smash-ur-face factor of a warrior or dervish, or the I-screw-up-your-build-ha-ha factor of rangers and mesmers, or the I-makes-many-big-numbers-pop-up factor of eles and necros... or the I'm-a-ninja-lolz factor of sins.
Being a monk doesn't mean auto-win and it can get frustrating healing hench or pugs. You'll also be weak on offense except against the undead so your role is limited. But it can be quite rewarding to learn to prot and keep teammates alive under heavy pressure.
I'd say you need to decide which playstyle you like better. You don't want to burn out halfway through your title farming and end up feeling like it's a chore.

i've actually been playing my imbagon for quite a while and it's never really gotten boring o.O but maybe thats cause i spend all my time playing an imbagon laughing merrily at the puny AI's feeble attempts to dent my impenetrable team's +100 armor pew pew pew.
and i'm surprised you didn't put sins under the lol smash face category with wars and dervs =O
pve scythe sins raep things like nothing else in nm, and ms/db sins armor-ignore raep things in hm.
being a ninja does produce many lulz tho.

Paragons in PvE are just as braindead as pre-nerf Ursan but even more broken in many situations. They get as much respect from me as an Ursan gets, which is none really =p
Anyways...can't really compare monks and para's to eachother, their jobs are alot different. No need to make the two compete when they work even better together.
I also got bored of my para unusually fast compared to my other chars. When it comes to variety, monks have tons more options. The thing with PvE para's is that all their options are dominated by a typical "SY" build when it comes to effectiveness.
