This is the one thing that bothered me before Ursan. My primary character is a Dervish and before Ursan I wasn't welcome with my dervish in any elite areas...and I'm not really looking forward to that happening again, which it will.
So the alternative is too play as a character you don't enjoy or to not bother with elite areas at all...both options kinda suck.

dervs own in pve, If people dont see that then ursan truly killed creative in the game. I know a few guilds that are using them for non ursan DoA, Fow and UW right now.

I agree I've got a lot of great PvE builds for my Derv and I still try to be creative with her....but it doesn't matter. Even with alliance and guild groups I remember the responses I used to get when trying to get into FoW, DoA, etc groups. "Oh a Dervish...don't you have a nuker or something?" or "why don't you monk for us instead?"
So my builds being good or not doesn't even matter because I won't even get into the group anyway. That is why Ursan is popular...anyone can run it without worrying about the normal class restrictions that are associated with elite areas.
I'm sure there are guilds that do Elite areas with all classes but those are few and far between

1. how long ago was that?
2. is your guild/alliance new to the game?
All classes are useful in Pve elite areas. You guild/alliance members do not know very much about the game and only use the PvX build to a T imo unless they were trying to do that hide behind the wall thing people use to do "not sure of people still do it" dervs are very good for pve. If the nerf to ursan is really bad "we can only hope so" Im sure you will see teams of 2-5 dervs going in to places like fow a lot as some what of a ursan "replacement"

1. About a year ago
2. No
My guild/alliance do know quite a bit about the game and I don't think any of them use PvX, but they are all about the "holy trinity", warrior is the aggro holder, ele's are the nukers etc and often the other classes are not wanted.
Now I'm not saying I support Ursan either... I can see it's downside as well. touch attack with high damage, powerful AoE knockdown on a short recharge, large bonus to life and armor. But I also know for a fact that once this skill is nerfed into the ground that things will return to the way they were and some of the classes are gonna be shunned yet again and if you're primary is one of those well you suck I guess.

Or you can just find a new guild that is not full of tight a** people that only know 1 way to do things. Thats all i can tell ya, if you want to play derv find a guild that wants people to play derv. If your guild is saying no and you can get them to let you come along as a derv, F'em their not worth your uberness :P

That sucks, and it seems your alliance/guild groups are very close-minded about anything besides warrior/ele/monk. Like JDRyder said - find someone else to play with? I know I'd much rather monk for a smart derv than a stupid nuker/warrior. My sympathies, really. (I don't play a derv - I tried, but it didn't suit my style. If it suits yours and you can play it, though, good on you!)

Then they may know about the game in terms of mobs, areas, rare drops etc but not about the most important aspect. Game mechanics. Anyone who plays gw as if it is another mmo using tank nukers and such do not know how to play the game. The whole gystem was designed against it both with skills (see short duration of most prot skills, leading to a much more fast paced combat system) and other game mechanics.
There are guilds out there who will allow you to play properly and effectivly. There seem to be enough people in a guild that doesn't let them use their own skills to form a whole new guild of their own.
If you know your guild sucks yet you stay with them for whatever reason, evn if they are your friends then that is your choice. You choose to play with the narrowminded and shouldn't use it as an excuse to keep ursan around.

Long post.
Problem with this whole discussion is the following:
1. There is no current build that can do the DOA and many of the other elite areas faster. (what is preventing folks from using what ever team they want, nobody is forcing folks to use Ursan)
2. Ursan make team formation faster and easier. (if you have a team, you need to be sure the team is synergistic, that takes time. You cannot take a "hoj poj" team generally into elite areas)
3. Ursan has made more folks able to do "elite" areas (Fundementally a complany wants to please there customers and I think there were more that wanted to be successful in these areas than with various classes which Ursan has allowed).

1. Thats a good thing. There are builds out that that clear it faster than ursan "they are just not on PvX also a good thing imo"
2. Thats a bad thing cause it was fast and easy before ursan.
3. Thats 1 of the many reasons why ursan is a bad thing. Guild wars is not a user friendly game, If you want a user friendly game just play WoW. Guild wars was meant to offer a challenge to players, part of why your only able to have 8 skills at a time.

Hi. I've cleared DoA with an Earth Shaker Ranger. Yes, a Ranger using Earth Shaker. Do I win?

What's so hard about knowing the best skills for synergy and buffing your melee 'n' shit?

Ursan has only allowed Ursan to complete it, and Monks. People who play Mesmers don't play Mesmers to deal damage, and midliners are ment to support the party while dealing a bit of damage themselves.
Oh yeah, if Ursan was truly that way, why is it powered on grind?
