Default Henchmen Woes

I'm new to this game and all I have is prophecies. I'm playing as a Warrior/Ele. Finding groups can be a pain so I find myself with just a party of henchmen most of the time. I've gotten to lvl 12 so far doing that, but I find that things are getting more and more difficult.

The problem is getting the henchmen to fight something besides what I'm attacking. I find that if I target a mob in a group of 3 or 4, everyone attacks that 1 mob and the other 3 go after the monk. And if I try to change targets, all the henchmen then also change targets.

Is there any way around this or is this just how the AI works?

Its just how the AI works. Henchmen almost always follow your targets. There is really no way around this that I know of.

There seems to be issues regarding this behaviour on henchmen and heroes lately =/
Let's hope A-net notices and fixes the problem.

If you are new I suggest finding yourself a helpful PvE guild and joining them. Then ask for help when you get stuck. There is a wonderful section for PvE Guild recruitment and PvE LF Guild section on guru.

Yes the AI blows.

Use ctrl + shift + space to call a target without attacking, then attack something else.

^^^

This. It's very helpful, You call the target before you run in, switch to the target you want to kill, then go at it.

^^^The above tactic is your best bet.Your second best bet is to EXPLORE different builds which will allow you to kill far faster so you can flip between targets in 2-4 seconds. In other words your ENTIRE party hits a monster and it dies FAST.Then move onto the next target. If it takes more than 2-4 seconds to kill you are going to slow.If prophecies is all you have then make sure your gear is PERFECT along with your SKILLS.This should alleviate 90% of your problems.
