Aurora Glade HM (/resignfromlife)
So, I've tried to beat Aurora Glade on HM about 15 times today. While it IS the most annoying freaking mission in the game, imo, I have little to no trouble on NM.
HM...is a different story.
I can't save the #%#@ NPC that gives you the bonus. That's my main problem. I've had friends get on their monks and try to heal him, I've had PuGs, Dunkoro ignores him. I've saved him ONCE and that was because of a lucky spawn or something. That was during a PuG and then we ended up failing towards the end anyway. Typically, we run past the baddies and run to heal the NPC. But it's always in vain, as he dies quickly and either dies a half a second before the monk can heal him or we die because we're ignoring the baddies and focusing on him.
If anyone knows any tips or anything on beating this, I'd be much obliged. Heck, if you want to HELP me beat it, feel free to. IGN is Isabelle Von Morte.
Oh, I'm trying to beat this on my Necromancer. This is the last mission I need for Guardian so. -_- I'm getting a little irritated and impatient.

You don't want to let the baddies get anywhere near the NPC. Every X minutes a group of margos is going to spawn and head straight for him. They come out of the east, and alternate which side they travel around the gorge in the center. Basic idea of this mission is to wait for this patrol, kill them, move on and take another group, wait and intercept next patrol, kill them, pull next group etc. You need a vigilant eye when going for the bonus, usually I flag my H/H in the center east of the gorge while I go pulling enemies off the stairs into range. This is only after you have cleared most of the static margos though.

When Less Longbow (the NPC that gives you the bonus objective) appears on your compass, stop moving. As long as you keep your distance, he is invulnerable, and he will defeat the two white mantle guys attacking him on his own. After that, you can simply stroll up to him at your own pace.
@FoxBat: That's Jennur's Horde, not Aurora Glade...

Errr, so. I think you're thinking about a different mission lol. <.< No Margonites here. Just White Mantle. This is Aurora Glade in the Maguuma Jungle.
qvtkc, if this works...I'll forever love you.
An hour later: I love qvtkc <3

It works. I tried the mission about 10 times before successfully doing it and Less never died. The problem is the crystal part of the mission.

This works.
It's not hard to do it the normal way either. You can pull and kill all the mantle leading up to where the path splits without triggering Less. If you take the left path and kill the boss there (who is the only monster along that path) relatively quickly, you should have plenty of time to save Less. You can also run right pas the boss if you like.
As for the bonus itself, save yourself a *lot* of headaches and just do the pig trick. Kill a pig on the other side of the closed vine gate; get over to it with a corpse teleport; suicide a couple party members with life sacrifices or vampiric weapons; move them across with rebirth/sunspear rebirth signet/rez scroll. Then you can kill the bonus target guy, who will be totally alone. Bonus is now complete.
To finish the mission: Grab the crystal from the mantle's stand and hold onto it; then move out away from where the mantle spawn. Have someone who stayed behind open the vine gate now. As long as you hold their crystal, the mantle will just mill around their spawn point in a very confused state. Have someone from your team attune the thingies using crystals from your own stand. Kill the Henge Critter Thingy and you're done.

This, get him+2 white mantles in the alt/Ctrl Range, less will kill both within a bout a minute while knights sit there.

Protecting him is stupid easy.
Roll H/H. Get close, but not enough that you could see him by holding Alt. Flag your heroes to his position. He is saved. It's the same strategy you use to save some of the Chosen/merchants in Divinty Coast.

What are the odds of a warthog spawn on other side of vine gate?
Sounded so cool, just did a run for Ss & Gs to check it out but nothing to kill on other side.

Not sure what the chances are, but sometimes you're lucky but most of the times you're not - IMO.

I don't get how saving the NPC ever was a problem? There are only two White Mantle Warriors attacking him. You don't have to run through everyone to get to him!
PS: Don't make Dunkoro ignore him - micro and get him to heal. It might be a problem if you're running Alesia, but then again, I've made my way through the mission with Alesia as the only healer so no problem.

No idea. The one time I did it, there was a warthog there. Never went back.

About 1/10.
I did this mission/bonus in HM twice and it took me about 20-23 tries in all.
Needless to say I won't do this mission anytime soon.

You don't need the Warthog. Ten-step guide to doing this mission easily, front way, getting the bonuse and without relying on that Warthog:
1. Equip a speedboost on yourself.
2. Equip You Move Like A Dwarf! on yourself - not necessary, but then it's a nice safety net.
3. Equip generic damage heroes - MMs, spirit spammers, Discord heroes, whatever.
4. Cap the shrine closest to you (that would be the middle one). Ignore the one furthest from you. Flag your heroes / henchmen to the middle plateu, and flag them apart as well before they all die to Searing Heat.
5. Get another seed, and run to the last shrine (that would be the one on the left). If the Mantle go to that shrine, cap it first and run. If the Mantle head to the middle shrine, wait until they're committed - that is, they're already fighting your H/H - and then cap this one.
6. Either run to the battle, using YMLAD! on the Mantle holding the seed and wiping the Mantle out as fast as possible OR get another seed. Obviously get the seed if the Mantle runner has broken through and taken the shrine. Do not wipe - if you do, restart with a more stable teambuild.
7. If the Mantle broke through, get another seed and recap the middle shrine.
8. If the Mantle did not break through, their next wave will cap the left shrine. Let them do so uncontested, but get another seed. Then repeat step 5: if the Mantle go to that shrine, cap it first and run. If the Mantle head to the middle shrine, wait until they're committed - that is, they're already fighting your H/H - and then cap the left shrine.
9. Repeat until all the Mantle are dead.
10. Kill the Demagogue, /dance on his corpse, finish the mission, whatever you want.

There is a path to get to the Boss for the Bonus with out ever aggroing any of the enemies. Hug the right wall in the last crystal area and kill the boss and you got the bonus. Having a friend run crystals while doing this will help but I think a powerful team can kill the boss before the White Mantle can attune all the portals. You may lose the mission but you get the bonus.

You can take all the time you like for killing the boss since he isn't close enough that you trigger Less' vulnerability. This has been the case every time I have done the mission in HM or NM, anyway.
For the crystal area, I found it easiest (if using h/h) to camp the center bridge with some focused dps setup and a ranged kd and cripple. Discord heroes, gale (micro if it's on a hero), and crippling dagger are what I normally use to fill the roles. You can move back behind the shrine after killing a runner to break some aggro if you are getting swamped.
