Well if you want to do dungeons then Rits are probably the best of those two. Dervishes are significantly underpowered compared to other classes at the moment.

Even though dervish are often not as good as warriors or assassins they are still one of the most powerful PvE-profession, at least if you don't want to play tank'n'spank/farm.

Well, as a dervish you will run around with a sycthe most of the time and kill your enemys in melee.
As a rit you will play a spirit spammer most of the time, summon your spirits, stand behind them and watch them kill your enemys.

As a Rit you can effectively run the following:
- Physical Support through Splinter Weapon, Ancestor's Rage, etc.
- Resto Healer
- Offensive Spirits
- Defensive Spirits
- Damage/Healing hybrids
- Spirit Hybrids
- AP Caller
- Weapon support
- MM

So theres a lot more there that works other than just Spirit Spammer.

Ritualists are very powerful and quite easy to play, regardless of which of the major roles you have them play. Spirit Spammers are now pretty much Easy Mode thanks to the massive buff to Signet of Spirits and the near-global reduction of spirit cast times to 3/4s. It gets a little boring after a while.

Dervishes are also very powerful, but I've found they're quite tricky to play - and annoying, at least for me (for example, especially early on, by the time you've got your enchantments up, the Heroes you're forced to take along with you have all but destroyed what you were planning to attack. Never gotten one past Venta Cemetary, so can't comment on how they are later on).

The ritualist is one of the few guys that I am currently considering maining.
The other two are mesmer and warrior.
The dervish is the only guy I never played, yet I appreciate them for some sweet armour choices and very nice character models.
So, this might be slightly biased.

My biggest concern is that your ranger can use the scythe pretty much as good as the dervish. Your ranger can also spam spirits as good as the ritualist.
Pretty much the only thing you can't do on your ranger would be to play a support ritualist. But this is something you'll pretty much only play if you play with other people AND you already have a sprit spammer in your team.
Still, with the ritualist you at least have the option of playing a role that you can't do on your ranger.
Personally, when choosing your second guy, I'd look into a non-physical guy, just to get an experience out of the game that is a bit different to your ranger.

Warrs and Sins can scythe just as well (or better) than the derv, so if you already have a melee class, there's really not much point.

Besides that, the Rit has tons of versatility. Alot more skills because they're from an earlier campaign, and they can be pretty effective in a broad range of situations. I MM or Heal on mine more often than I find myself spirit spamming or nukeing.

Having played with both, you're better off with the ritualist. They have far more build options. And you will almost never have to worry about "can the warrior use my build better than I can?"

Also, if you really want to use a scythe, ritualists can do so better than the dervish as well.

We can't tell you which of those you'll find fun. I'd vote Rit because they're more flexible, and most things a Derv can do, another profession can do better.
