PvX is good for build concepts.
However PuGs cannot think for themselves, and therefor think the builds on their are the holy trinity on GW.
There are also those ignorant of the usefulness for things you see off of PvX, and if you're not running a certain build on wiki exactly as it is, they'll kick you.

Like I said, PvX is for build concepts. They are meant to show you structure of a build, and to tweak them.

The site itself is great, but the community is NOT!

guru > wiki, guru mods actually delete nonsense so the info posted is more reliable.

PvX is good source for concepts for builds.
By checking it out occasionally you can get a rough idea about some nice skill combinations people thought about, which leaves you room for thought for your own builds.
People who call others 'PvX noobs' are stupid, they either run a crapatstic build that has no synergy at all, or they run a decent build thats somewhere in PVX, wether they know it or not.
GW is a 3 years old game, half a year passed since the last expansion was released.
At this point theres no more room for creativity, if you found a good build, chances are someone already figured that out before you, and its already somewhere in PVX by now.
Which leads me to something that alot of PVX haters don't really get, PVX isnt ran by some godly figure who spits out good builds that change the metagame all the time, its ran solely by the COMMUNITY.
EVERYONE can edit builds, everyone can add their own, everyone can vote on builds.
The players are the ones who put those builds on the wiki.
It's not that without PVX, those builds wouldn't exist, they sure as hell would, they just wouldn't be as popular maybe, which has the downside of spreading shit builds like sway, bspike, rspike, ritspike, ursan, whatnot, but it also makes a lot of good builds popular.
Without PVX the flare warriors and mending wammos would have been alot more common, but i guess thats what the PVX haters want, originallity is above all right? Wrong, theres no more place for originallity in GW at that point.

Yeah, this is what I use it for. When I hear about a new meta build of some kind (pvp, farming, etc) I'll go over there to check out the basics of how it works.

Use a build from PvX wiki and you're a newb or a tool.
Make your own unique build and get called a newb or ghey in a PuG.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

As an inexperienced player, I admit I use some PvX builds. However, I usually run said builds as they say for an hour or two, and decide "I'm not really a fan of _____", remove that particular skill, and replace it with something I prefer more.

So yes, I use PvX builds, and I'm not ashamed. I'd rather take an efficient build and tweak it to my needs than create a build based on my inexperience and tweak it from there.

Personally? I'm fine with the existance of PvX, it helps less experienced players learn how to play some good builds of different classes. And allows those who don't have the time or money to develop orriginal builds to still have powerful ones. But still, I prefer to make my own builds, it's a lot more fun and rewarding IMO.

It is not best to look on PvX if you are just starting out.
I will have to disagree here, hero builds there are quite crappy since they're tagged as such from being general PvE builds, and we all know how bad AI is, so they don't work or are bad choices. I would say you don't use the builds if you're just really starting out, as in Ascalon/noob island.

I go ocasionally there to give myself ideas, especially RA, farming and ele builds (I don't play ele much). Oh and to laugh at the noob community and 13 year old kids. For example check Guild of Deals user page to have a good laugh at noob builds; I still don't know if those pages are intended as sarcasm or not.

Its their userpage...so I am sure it is suppose to be sarcastic.

Anyways, back on topic, I use PvX wiki builds to get ideas and what works and usually make it work in more of my favor such as switching out skills. Most of the time however, my builds are usually random so I don't PvX much. Love the community there, its ran by a bunch of jackasses and sarcastic people that just hate noobs.
