Yes, but how many people have spirit spamming ritualist heroes? How many spirit spamming ritualists are there in all? If a class is generally less used as a player, it's more than likely less used as a hero, as well (or even less so, since, for example, heroes can't be imbagons).

Edit: Misread
No class totally favors Superior runes, and the only major runes that are worth anything are the direct result of cheap or poor players not purchasing those superior runes that are somewhat expensive. Also, minor runes are probably about as likely to be found as superior, as you can't get blue salvage items from high end or HM chests.
Some were suggesting a look at rune prices, so I took an inventory. It's (slightly) more scientific than retelling your experiences of sitting in a Doomlore Shrine filled with Mo/Me's and A/E's and concluding that they are the most popular (which, is probably true).

the rune price should be the closest of the bunch but remember that includes heros that are runes up people use. i know not all my heros are runes to the max only the ones i use the most. there is the fact you only got two rit heros and three necro and you notice how the farming classes tend to be high because youre buying several of the runes to make you lower health

But the reverse isn't true. Necro runes are sure to be vastly overrepresented given all the infamous triple necro builds. As in over half of all active player characters will have at least partially runed necros heroes. That would be over twice the number of necro runes versus all other classes combined.
There are plenty of absurdly strong HM templates for paragons and warriors, and perhaps plenty of players behind them, but they won't show up here at all because they make for awful heroes. Same for Ether Renewal eles, Dervish and Sin aoe frontliners, Monks (heroes are so bad at the job)

There's only a few situations where superiors are worth it:
- Death Magic for minion armies
- Farming builds, esp. Obs/SF builds which suffer nothing for it.
- In case you want a seperate setup for JQ.
So basically, sups are a measure of necros and farming. (Although farming isn't a terrible barometer for what people spend alot of time playing.)
I noticed much of the value for monks comes from superior divine and smiting monk runes. I submit this has mostly to do with JQ, where you need the sup smite to kill anything. Although 55 is probably some small contributor still, and maybe people are going nuts with max RoJ heroes too.

Yes but they drop like flies in both normal and hard mode from various mobs whether by farm or normal playing. Chests are a drop in the bucket here, and while sups are far more common than they used to be, minors are even vastly more common.
So why is necro soul reaping so high? Because all three sabway heroes need it, while the other runes differ.

This method used to have merit but it's significantly weaker now. I remember when dervish runes spiked hugely in price and sold out at the trader for a few days. It wasn't because of some new cool dervish farm build- it was when they added M.O.X. Still yes, it might tell us something that anecdotes don't, but heroes add such a complicating factor to rune prices these days.
Still if you just did something like factor out necros and majors/sups, we'd probably get a decent picture - which isn't all that different from what is posted. Anything near 100 total runes is at the floor and has absymally low demand. Meanwhile crap heroes like warriors, rangers, and dervs command around 200 mostly on the strength of their player base, which is way over double the demand of the bottom feeders - and also compares very favorably with the hero-inflated necro numbers. So take your pick of mesmer, para, or rit for least popular class, that certainly squares with my anecdotal experience.
