Default Most effective class in serious pve

ok, i know i might get a lot of heat for this...but after playing GW for more than four months(serious playing mind you ) I gotta know what most people think.

So what is the MOST EFFECTIVE class/hero combo in your opinion? I'm talking about serious VQ/HM Dungeon and missions. Forget about farming or pvp. Also pretend you can't hitch a ride from a perma sin or 600/smite to complete your HM dungeon book.

from what little info I could gather, my opinion is AP/MoP Necro with Discordway.

eagerly waiting for what others think.

Definitely Necro. However much I <3 my Ele, Necros who gain 30+ energy every 15s cannot be beaten by anything.

Obviously the Imbagon. SY and TNtF makes any h/h party incredibly hard to kill. I completed about 90% of HM missions, 95% of HM explorables in GW, and about 75% of the EoTN HM dungeons on my Paragon with h/h setup.

What's most effective depends on the specific circumstances. In some cases, brute force works well; in others, interrupts, knockdown, or [[Pain Inverter] may be the better option.

Also good.

Yup, just have to mix professions and skills that work good together (plus what works for a specific area based on past experiences), or what YOU think is good, not the popular cookie cutter s*it that people demand you use or uninstall..find something you like and play + enjoy. This is what me and a friend do all the time. Just me, him and henchmen and we do really well making up our own build and profession combos. We never jump on any cookie cutter builds or popular stuff, its just plain silly.

offtopic:

And old friend of mine that really dosent play gw much anymore logged on and was b*tching at me that i still play the "old unpopular" game and telling me where its good at to play. Honestly i had to ignore him because he was throwing the "popular" silly bandwagon stuff at me and I didn't wanna hear it because I like the game thats all that matters, if i like the game (or a build), then noone i gonna tell me to go do something else.

Any class really, heroes are an extension of your character and skills so you can just adapt ur hero setup for diferents builds u're running on ur character.
My least favorite is monk tho,too slow paced for H/H imo

Necro and Paragon groups, hands down. (since they require the least amount of player effort)

but really anything can be great, it's all up to the build and the area you are trying to complete.

it's just that I was VQing some areas with my Spirit Spamming Rit with [pain] [bloodsong] [vampirism] [signet of ghostly might] [painful bond] and it seemed that same area was much easier to VQ with my SS Necro who actually got a lot worse heroes.

Necromancer, Monk and Paragon.
Those three can find a place in the majority of teams, particularly the first two and the third has some very lovely abilities.

There's more than one "most effective class" since there's more than one thing your party needs someone to be effective at.

A quick overview:

Damage:

For a totally structured team, an AP-MoP Necro paired with a OoU MM Necro and a HB-WW Warrior and supported by a Necro buff-bitch and other physicals plus casters with spears is about as good as it gets.

For standalone damage output, AP-AE-CoP Mesmer is probably the strongest.

MS-DB sin falls in the middle with reasonably high damage on their own, plus the ability to work well with a AP-MoP.

Damage Prevention:

Anything that spams SY! is nice -- Imbagon, "Godmode" Dragonslasher, MS-DB Sin (again), HB-WW Warrior (again), Incendiary/SY! Ranger, etc.

The PS/SB spam limited only by cast/recharge time on a E.Renewal "healer" is unparalleled enchant-based damage prevention.

For condition-based shutdown, Mandragor-In-Can Me/E is the strongest.

Healing:

Infuse on an E.Renewal "healer" (again).

Interruption:

Daze. Often earns a spot on the team for a Ranger that they otherwise don't deserve.

Knockdown. Warriors win here: Stonefist insignia and Earthshaker for hammer builds and Brawling Headbutt for sword builds.

-------------------------------------------------------

Recap:

As you can see, most of the classes can do something worth doing and be "the best they are at what they do."

The classes that are left out are Monk (totally outclassed by ele), Ritualist (worthless caster primary), and Dervish (outclassed by Warrior and Sin, shut out from best intra-team damage synergies b/c of AoHM's most unfortunate damage-type conversion).

Also, some "most effective" classes have more room for flexibility than others. Necro and Warrior have at least 3 top-tier builds each, and those builds have room for flexibility within them; while Paragons are stuck with Imbagon, and Imbagon allows basically zero variants that aren't strictly inferior to the "classical" build. The others fall somewhere in the middle.

I feel that which profession is best depends on your play style. Almost all professions are good at what they do IF you have right build. A few professions, like Necromancer, Ranger and Warrior can get by the entire game using a single build while Eles and the rest have to adapt thier build for almost each area. I would advise you take a look at how you play, read over everyone's comments then make decision.

It's kinda unfortunate that Ritualists are not one of the most effective classes. In fact, even though I'm sure a lot of Rits did finish a lot of leet areas and missions, I'm equally confident most of them would agree that other classes can do those areas far more easily. Spirits do decent damage, but it's so unpredictable (one dragon stomp is all it takes no matter how strategically you place those spirits). That's a shame considering how nice most Rit armors look.
Maybe that's why ANet made them inferior? Work hard if you wanna look good

Rits have awesome Restoration skills, they are simply put to a better use in PvE by necros that basically have infinite energy as long as stuff dies.

I think you get the feeling that rits are bad at pve because you run terrible builds (spirit spamming is terrible).
