WTF is wrong with the spirits
So, simple question, I return to UWSC to play some N/x vale support. The Escort spirits have gone mad! I waltz them on their way, nice and slow, and somehow they manage to break anyway. They're extremely jittery. Has anything changed here? I caused one wipe today because of this, and that's not fun.
Kindly Thomas

I believe that if the puller is attacking or has called the Mindblades as a target when you try and walk by with them, the spirits will go to help. The Vale sin should just be standing there keeping up Shadow Form, and not attacking or targeting, otherwise it's near impossible to get them to follow you again.

attacking is fine....but once they move or call...those spirits start going too...

What's the desired space between you and the spirits? I herd them by going backwards, keeping them at exactly aggro-zone distance. Is this wrong?

yeah, taking it slow and easy would be best. are u sure no one was messing with u on the edge of ur radar that u couldn't see? someone moving that u didn't know about. where were they trying to break away at and in which direction?

ok this is what i do and it has worked every time (done UWSC maybe 20 times..i know not a lot, but still 100% effective):
the sin can attack while you go by, but be sure to ask/tell everyone to not ping a target while you escort the souls, otherwise they will run toward the direction of the ping. also the sin should not be moving at all.
for the actual escort, i stay within aggro-bubble range, and run forward then backwards rapidly, so it looks like my character does about ~3 steps forward, ~3 steps back, and this rapid movement has always been enough to keep the souls focused on you.
if by chance someone pings, or the sin moves and the souls start running away from you, stop exactly where you are (do NOT follow the souls!), and do the same backward/forward motion right where you are, but only do like 1 step forward, 1 step back.
anyway, sounds crazy but that method has always worked for me, even in the worst situations where the souls are completely out of aggro range and running toward the mindblades.
good luck, and thanks for all your excellent insight on necros Moloch.

Similar method works for the griffons in FoW, though they aren't quite as sensitive as the souls in UW.

They and a lot of NPCs following you in missions follow whoever is moving the most at the time. So yeah it makes perfect sense, I use this trick all the time in fail pve groups.

You want to move backward to ensure that they don't break from you, as you surpass them in speed with celerities in use.
As long as you strafe while moving, you should be fine. It shouldn't matter whether you strafe forward/backward or from side to side. I'd suggest side/side, so you can move backward at the same time.
