Post Ranger seeking assistance with bod types/mods

Im new to the ranger profession, i just want to know what is a good bow or build (secondary elementalist) for me. i just bought a elswyth's recurve bow for 2k.

Im thinking of using a hornbow plus i already got a book of secrets. any help would be really appreciated. the ranger profession is by far the most difficult to master.

Also if its not too much trouble could i have a recomendation for which green bows are optimal for their style of bows (i.e. elswyth's recurve bow for recurve type bow).

WHOOPS put bod instead of mod.... typing fast sry :-P

O and i need a good armor type... im thinking stalwarts or maybe the armor that gives +15 vs. cold cause of winter

If you're going R/E you're going to want a bow that does elemental damage. Then bring the respective Conjure <element> and Barrage, and do a decent bit of damage.

Don't use a Hornbow... the only use it has is in an Rspike build.

As already mentioned, hornbows are usually regarded as the least desireable type of bow. Using any other kind is better in almost every situation.

If you're one of those one-weapon-only players, I'd recommend a flatbow. It has the best range and refire rate; the only real downside is flight time. Try to carry Read the Wind or Favorable Winds if you decide to go with one...otherwise interrupting can be a great hassle.

Ok well ive recently found out about conflagration and the mark of rodgrot, would that be better for me then to waste a slot on a fiery bow of fortitude? I have a fiery and fortitude (+29) anyways because i was planing on doing so.

I also have a new azure shortbow of fortitude (+30) what should be the mod that goes on this im thinking zealous?

Or should i go for a +5 energy bow with zealous and a fortitude?

In the end i still need a definite build, i have all three campaigns and i have capped barrage. As well as rune and insignia specs.

You don't need a fiery bow for Conjure Flame, just use Kindle Arrows so you can use a Vamp bow for 5 more damage or a Zealous one. Mark of Rodgort on a Ranger for burning isn't really efficient, there are better ways to burn.

For armor, find a combination between Survivor and Radiant that suits you. The other insignias are fairly worthless. You don't really need a +5 energy bow except maybe for Concussion Shot.

Barrage is really a bad skill in most of general PvE. Please don't walk around spamming that everywhere. Splinter Barrage has some uses in places with large mobs like Vizunah Square, but those are few and far.

Some early and easy to use elites to build around are [skill]Burning Arrow[/skill][skill]Broad Head Arrow[/skill], both of which can be capped early on the mainland.
[skill]Prepared Shot[/skill] can be used if you have a steady finger for Concussion Shot, or if you want to play a damage build and use it as e-management, although it arrives really late in the game. [skill]Enraged Lunge[/skill], 3 pet shouts, and [skill]Brutal Weapon[/skill] can give high single target DPS and a ~100-110 spike every 5 seconds.

alright cool, but i think im just going to stick with conflagration for a fire starter then use a zealous bow, i have barrage and it seems to work just fine, so im stickin with it.

Radiant insignia seems to agree with my high energy demands so i wil try that on my armor.

Also that last skill is a rit, not a ele skill.

Right now im playing around with different types of bows, i have a longbow(stormbow:-0),recurve bow (stated above), and shortbow (vampiric and +30)

TY guys for all the help so far looking forward to more info
