I did this quickie build to do a real fast farm of The warrior/Ele bosses outside of Sardelac Sanitarium.
There are probably better builds to do this, but I just made it for the Purposes of testing it. I'll probably work on it a lot more tomorrow.
So Let's get going:
R/Any:
[skill]Practiced Stance[/skill][skill]Kindle Arrows[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill][skill]Any IAS Skill Or Penetrating attack[/skill][skill]Dryder's Defenses[/skill][skill]Lightning Reflexes[/skill][skill]Throw Dirt[/skill][skill]Troll Unguent[/skill]
Code: OgATcXsm1I4x2xPm4FH1+GA
Attributes
Expertise: 15 [11 + 3 + 1]
Wilderness Survival: 12 [10 + 2]
Marksmanship: 10
Armor
Preferably Full Radiant, but any will do.
Weapons
Shortbow of some kind, preferably [wiki]Urgoz's Shortbow[/wiki]. Any will do though.
Longbow. Purely for pulling, so any old longbow will do.
This farm is SUPER Easy, and very fast with the chance of Elites tomes and lockpicks, it's a decent farm IMO.
Prep: Turn on Hard Mode, and go to Sardelic Sanctum. Head out to old Ascalon and go forward a little bit. There will be on of three things there:
1) A whole bunch of Grawl...(can't farm for sure...)
2) [wiki]Flint Touchstone[/wiki] the Ele boss that you want to farm.
3) Or [wiki]Cobble Poundstone[/wiki] a Warrior boss that you also want to farm.
Usually you'll get Cobble Poundstone or Flint Touchstone. You only get grawl every so often..
The Guide
Cobble Poundstone:
Once you get a Cobble spawn, pull him away from all other enemies. once that arrow hits him, immediately go back a couple steps, and use both [wiki]Practiced stance[/wiki] and [wiki]Kindle Arrows[/wiki]. once he rubs up and starts attacking you, use [wiki]Lightning Reflexes[/wiki] and keep attacking until Lightening Reflexes runs out. Once it Runs out use [wiki]Dryder's Defenses[/wiki]. Continue to Attack. If you find yourself low on hp use both [wiki]throw dirt[/wiki] and [wiki]Troll Unguent[/wiki]. Stay Alert, because once Cobble's Health gets below 50% he will try using [wiki]Healing Signet[/wiki]. Interrupt it using [wiki]Distracting Shot[/wiki] and continue to Attack. Oh yeah, use your IAS stance after you use troll unguent and throw dirt.
Flint Touchstone
Go forward, and aggro Flint. As soon as you come into range, he will use eruption. It is vital that you use distracting shot to interrupt his eruption skill. From here it's a cakewalk, just use your stance, and keep kindle arrows up. Use Your stances to keep alive, and kill him faster. Again, if you run low on hp, use Throw Dirt + Troll unguent. Make sure to stay alert once he runs low on hp, because he might use Eruption again, which you want to interrupt w/ distracting shot.
That's about it, pick up your loot and head back to Sardelac.
Average Time: 3 minutes.

I don't mean to piss on your picnic but a W/X can farm both Cobble and Flint with no problems and it's about twice as fast...so why would i do it as a Ranger? Iirc an Assassin is the quickest way to do it.

I think the point he was trying to make was that, while it does work, it's not necessarily the most efficient way.
If you're serious about farming, I imagine you might want to have the best class for a given job. I think it's an interesting build, but I don't necessarily see it as exclusive to Cobble. It's something you could use against any melee boss... but if you were fighting a melee boss, other classes would be better to do.
Like I said, I'm always interested in seeing new builds and how they're used; it's just that, in this case, I don't think it's the best method available.

A generic Glads Defence/Riposte build. Can take out all the elementals and maybe some of the grawls if there aren't any monks

I wasn't aware that this boss was even worth farming to begin with, even before all the drop nerfing.
EDIT: You could probably take out Flint simply by swapping BHA in for Prep Stance, it's inefficient to mix with Kindle b/c Kindle can already be infinitely maintained.

You guys can actually farm flint with the build, you just have to use Distracting shot right at the begging, so you interrupt and disable his eruption. Here's something that makes the build a bit easier:
R/W
[skill]Practiced stance[/skill][skill]Kindle Arrows[/skill][skill]frenzy[/skill][skill]distracting shot[/skill][skill]Dryder's Defenses[/skill][skill]Lightning Reflexes[/skill][skill]throw dirt[/skill][skill]troll unguent[/skill]
Same Stats + Weapon...
Although this statement:

Seems to be true, as I've killed both the boss at least 10 times each, and I have got nothing but scorched lodgestones or gp drops...

While the bosses aren't worth too much farming, I have farmed a lot of Hulking Stone Elementals in the area. I have gotten a few tomes, a few golds, lots of granite and lodestones, a good bit of charcoal, and a decent amount of money. I do it as an Elem/Mo, works pretty quickly.

There are certainly more effective builds to solo this area, but it's always fun to see a pure ranger build soloing something, especially in HM.
I haven't tried the build myself, but it seems like you could do better with the elite. Perhaps Punishing Shot or Burning Arrow? In fact, given that the bosses in Tyria don't do obscene damage like they do in NF or Factions, I would bet that an RaO thumper or even a pure beastmaster running Enraging Lunge could totally shred either boss, much faster than plinking away with arrows.
Whatever works and whatever's fun of course.

This is completely true, Practiced stance is completely useless.. Kindle arrows lasts way long, I'm thinking Oath shot might work... I'll have to look through ranger skills again though..

I'd think twice about Oath Shot - you don't have any skills that necessitate a quicker recharge, except maybe your def. stances and throw dirt, but it doesn't seem like you need them. Oath Shot would be just as much of a waste.
Unless you go outside Ranger skills, I'd try Burning Arrow and Punishing Shot next. Punishing is even probably more interrupt than you need, but it might be handy against the ele. *shrug*

Actually I think quick shot spam would do good, since I replaced Penetrating attack with Frenzy..
Although Burning arrow does seem a lot more effective now that I look at it...

Burning Arrow is THE dps elite for single-target ranger damage.
The drawback is that Tyrian bosses get that lovely half condition duration so you will lose out on some of the burning love, but it still hits hard.
Cap it if you haven't already, it comes fairly early on in Elona

Thanks for the tip there smart guy.
A farming forum is all about discovering and sharing the most efficient method of farming a location or boss. The more efficient the build, the faster the farm, the shorter the grind or the more money you make...this tends to be what people want to know. Fair enough, you can farm Cobble with a Ranger, but it is inefficient compared to a Warrior or Assassin. Therefore, it's not the best tool for the job particularly for a starter zone that's dead easy to reach with any class.
I understand that he may not have a W or A, but if you're serious about farming you'll have a full deck of toons as each will do a specific job as well if not better than another. In this case, a Ranger is a poor choice when compared to just about every other class (Mo, N, W, A, Rt, E would definitely be faster, D, Me probably, P maybe) which, as stated below your post, is the point i was trying to make. Perhaps if you were a little more perceptive you may have read between the lines. Think before ya type
Even within the Ranger class there are significantly better options than a bar half-dedicated to defense with no condition degen. [skill=text]Burning Arrow[/skill], [skill=text]Apply Poison[/skill], [skill=text]Conjure Flame[/skill], [skill=text]Distracting Shot[/skill] and [skill=text]Pin Down[/skill] (can't hurt what you can't hit) would seem quicker to me, even though it's not strictly R/any. Add [skill=text]Whirling Defense[/skill] and [skill=text]Troll Unguent[/skill] if kiting with Pin Down is too slow or ineffective. Maybe experiment with Conjure Flame / Kindle Arrows and [skill=text]Dual Shot[/skill], Triple Shot and [skill=text]Forked Arrow[/skill] (with Kindle, not with Conjure) for a bit of boom-boom. I could be speaking out of my ring because i must admit i don't play Ranger very much, but i'd be looking at a more offensive bar to speed things up.
