Olias never uses Soul Leech unless I tell him to. On the rare occasions he does, it's usually on a melee attacker.

I noticed Master of Whispers uses Soul Leech if foe is wielding a staff or a wand. I think the heroes are told to watch what the foe is wielding to determine what types of spells (anti caster / anti melee etc) are to be cast. If I am right then this could do to be altered...as Soul Leech could be cast on Dervishes, since enchantments are spells, but since they wield a physical damage weapon it doesn't get cast.

Well that's how the AI works eg. foes will not cast Chaos Storm on you if you are wielding a martial weapon, same goes for Shroud of Silence.

I think you're right and that heroes AI works the same as monsters AI... when farming shirokens I used to use my FFS to avoid their anti caster hexes. Swap to a wand/staff and they start to cast it.

It's strange to think of it this way but I've noticed a few things that affect the effectiveness of my heroes:

-order of the skills on the bar, not just whether a particular one is placed before or after the others, but whether it is first-last-inbetween, and what other skills are with it

(sometimes other skills placed with a particular skill will result that it will never be used and the other skills will be)(sometimes if a skill is placed first or last, or in a particular order, it will be used or not used)

-whether the hero is in aggressive, avoid combat, or guard
(I always have my monks in avoid combat, warriors and melee in aggressive, others in guard)(when in aggressive or guard, ranger heroes tend to run in and ping an enemy with their bow whether you are ready or not)

One last tip: My sousuke likes to use MS. He likes it so much he runs forward to begin casting it even in guard mode. So I put glyph of sacrifice just before MS on his bar. He uses the glyph right everytime and he never uses it for glowing gaze or searing flames, which would break his skills if he did.

Hero AI seems to cause them to activate IoW as soon as it is not present on them. Unfortunately, if they have high DP, activating it results in a suicide.

To summarize, IoW makes heroes suicidal on high DP. They respawn, they cast it, they die. You res them and the cycle continues until you disable the skill. Quite funny too: Res, hara-kiri, dead hero, enemies die of laughter...
It's laughable and at the same time tragic.
