I would still rather reduce the damage with life bond or barrier.I can see what you are getting at though don't forget about reversal of damage it seem maybe ppl might start excepting smiters now.

Have tried both an OoV monk and couple of signet utilities builds (basically a zealot's fire version and a no zealot's fire version) with strength of honor since its buff, in GvG. Both pretty effective.
