Default Energy Wracker

Well I was trying this build in GvG, and it wasnt all that great as I thought it would be. I know that it has some potential, but I am not that sure. Could you guys help me out? The build was [skill]Signet of Lost Souls[/skill] [skill]Parasitic Bond[/skill] [skill]Malaise[/skill] [skill]Wither[/skill] [skill]Mind Wrack[/skill] [skill]Ether Phantom[/skill] [skill]Insidious Parasite[/skill] [skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
Any additional suggestions?

Signet of Lost Souls out and Drain Delusions in. Don't mean to barge in but go Me/Rt and take Ether Phantom, Drain Delusions, Panic, Mind Wrack, Auspicious Incantation, Power Leak, E-burn, Flesh of My Flesh. I'ts the same idea hust a little more refined. Consider also bringing a Migraine Mesmer and just sit on a monk.

Mind Wrack really isn't good for anything other than a weak cover enchantment unless you are running a full mesmer e-denial bar, which is a lot weaker than it used to be.

Personally, I don't think the skill has much use beyond fun in RA against warriors using Spirit Shackles and an occasional farming build.

If you want energy denial I'd run [skill]Depravity[/skill] over [skill]Wither[/skill] which isn't that and good and easy as hell to remove.

Mind Wrack is definitely not as useful as it seems on paper in PvP. By the same property, this can also be said about Wither. Counting on your enemy to actually reach 0 Energy takes one or both of these conditions to be true:

1) Your target is either foolish, or didn't notice Mind Wrack in the first place.
2) There is a disgusting amount of E-denial at work.

I would say keep with the E-denial theme, but don't focus on punishing them when they reach 0. Perhaps that Me/Rt build would be worth a try, but I haven't had much experience with a Mesmer primary.

I agree with Threll. E-denial works much better on a mesmer, because they actively drain energy instead of stacking a bunch or hexes and hoping the target's dumb.

You'd be doing more good if you ran Domination and brought [skill]Shame[/skill] and [skill]Diversion[/skill]

That combo burns 13 energy every 5 seconds, and keeps the foe at 3 pips. As far as e-denial, show me something that has better numbers than that.

Disabling key skills for a minute plus making skills fail and stealing their enery works better than just burning their energy, that's what a low set is for.

And you could also bring Power Leak.

And I'm not? I brought up diversion and shame because you brought up using Mantra of Recovery with inspiration energy denial which is fairly weak in comparison to the domination skills [skill]Power Leak[/skill] and [skill]Shame[/skill], if you're running Domination you should have [skill]Diversion[/skill] which is one of the most powerful mesmer skills then you could also run [skill]Energy Burn[/skill]

Therefore you have burn 8 every 10 seconds from energy burn, 13 every 15 seconds from shame (if they cast through it) and 19 (let's say roughly 10 seconds waiting for skills) accounting provided you know how to interrupt, plus Diversion possibly catching a skill of theirs, shutting them down further.

Even if they don't cast through it, they're not casting because of those hexes, either way you've done your job.

A smart caster against the set of skills you brought up can simply swap to their low set when they see the hexes on them, then swap back up when they need to.

I totally understand.. in any normal situation I would favor the build you mentioned,,, but above there was talk about unconditional energy denial, meaning if your target is smart enough about what hexes they have. Its just another option, it might not be the best for shutdown, but its unconditional energy draining, does not rely on hitting a power leak for that big espike. btw,, try casting all that stuff with MoR on for more than 25 seconds.... you'll have a serious energy problem.

also, it -could- be used for draining energy on ANY target, whether they use spells or not. Just an /option/ thats all. I am not saying "this is the best"

It's incredibly easy to remove if your target (in which most cases) will bring a low energy set, you force your energy 0 on your low set and then wither is removed.

What I'm saying is, it's a hex you can remove without hex removal.
