Default Water Earth AoE

Hey Guys and Gals,

So I reworked a Water/Earth combined build for what I hope is efficient and deadly AoE. I wwas hoping to get some feedback before I go spend the money for the necessary skills and items.

Attributes:

Earth Magic: 12 (8+3+1)
Water Magic: 12 (10+2)
Energy Storage: rest (with a Major Rune)

other Runes:
Rune of Superior Vigor
Rune of Vitae

Insignias:
mixture of Survivor and Radiants

Weapon:
Adept Earth Magic Staff of either Fortitude or Devotion with "Aptitude not Attitude" Inscription

Skills:

1.) Ward Against Foes (snare at MY location)
2.) Deep Freeze (dmg and snare at TARGET's location)
3.) Unsteady Ground {E}
4.) Maelstrom (used with Deep Freeze to really frustrate casters)
5.) Churning Earth or Eruption
6.) Armor of Mist or Kinetic Armor
7.) Ice Spear or an Attunement or Obsidian Flame
8.) Glyph of Lesser Energy

This build is designed to wreak havoc on melee and casters alike. Deep Freeze and Maelstron snare, dmg, and interrupt casters. Cast Ward Against Foes when melee fighters get within range, followed immediately by Unsteady Ground and either Eruption or Churning Earth. Armor of Mist provides armor and speed boost for defense. It would be matched with Obsidian Flame. Kinetic Armor provides a greater armor bonus, and can be maintained with Ice Spear. Glyph of Lesser Energy allows you to easily cast the AoE skills at low cost.

So what do you guys think? Will this work decently? Thanks for the input.

Well I think you'll be semi disappointed in the damage output. Specializing in one element is usually more efficient than spreading points across two elemental attributes. Water I don't know so well but earth I do know. Go for Eruption over churning earth if you want to do this build. Eruption is better for melee shutdown and you'll already have enough knockdown with Unsteady ground. You don't have many spammables to keep your damage output up. So basically if they don't die from the AoE then you're boned because even though you have an optional slot open for Ice Spear or obsidian flame honestly you'll want an attunement there for energy management. You aren't putting a lot of points in Energy storage and GoLE isn't going to cut it for energy management in this build.

I have to agree with strobo, speccing into 1 element is often better than going dual-elements. Deep freeze should be used as a snare and not as a damaging spell, i suggest throwing eruption, stoning (give your heroes enfeebling blood and it will work), earth attunement, deep freeze, Auspicious incantation (amazing e-management, Mesmer) , elemental lord, (i like it), and if u want some defence (though i think you don't need it) you can throw armor of earth in. Also you might take another look at your attributes: you are running 1 superior+ 2 majors!, that is WAY too heavy. Radiant insignias are very useless on eles, i'd advise you to get blessed or survivors.
