Trying to devise a functional build around the elite Lingering Curse. This build does fairly well in RA. Any comments would be helpful.

I think it's vulnerable to interrupts and the energy might be a problem.

I actually made my own lingering curse build since I rarely see it used too. It's Me/N and it's for FA though.

The build I posted hasn't got any energy problems when I use it. Auspicious and Spirit of Failure takes care of that pretty well, and a minimal Soul Reaping fixes the rest. However interrupts are a problem.

I just had a thought... has anyone tried this?

Persistence of Memory:

For 5-17 seconds, whenever a Spell you cast is interrupted, that Spell is instantly recharged. Primary Attribute: Fast Casting.

So for 5 seconds if you are interupted, that spell you were trying to cast is recharged.

Cast this first, then Auspicious Incantation, then Lingering Curse. If LC is interupted, will it be instantly recharged (thus nullifying AI's drawback of adding an additional 30 seconds to recharge LC)?

Since AI takes 1 second to cast and LC takes 2, you should have enough time to cast both while under PoM's enchantment.

If you go N/Me. Do you think this would help the interupt problem?

I think that Mantra of Resolve would be a more effective way to do this, especially with the high investment in Inspiration Magic.

The real problem is that [skill]gaze of contempt[/skill] makes lingering curse look pretty awful, and that [skill]spiteful spirit[/skill] [skill]corrupt enchantment[/skill] are far better curses elites. Lingering curse really needs something like "and cannot be the target of enchantments" to matter. As it is, it's a really, really expensive version of gaze of contempt with a healing reduction that no one really cares about anyway. Look carefully at the build and decide if there's anything it can do that an SS or corrupt enchantment bar can't do much more effectively.

First of all I do agree that there are several elites that would need a long hard look on them. Weaken Knees, anyone? That said, Lingering Curse is far from the worst.

The upside with Lingering Curse compared to Gaze of Contempt? 10 seconds recharge. Combined with Auspicious Incantation, spell actually becomes a way of energy management. Can strip target of all enchantments no matter if he is almost dead or at 100% health.

While the secondary effect of the spell might be slightly weak, it DOES make defense against spike damage significantly weaker. However of course spike damage can't be provided by this build.

Oh, and as for a situation where Lingering Curse is much better than Corrupt Enchantments or SS... Killing ele tanks and dervishes.

By the way the text above for Auspicious is wrong. It will only add 6 to recharge time.

Weaken knees is an awesome skill - on warriors. I have no idea why you would take it on a necro. Yes, lingering curse is an effective counter to enchant-happy tanking builds. Quite frankly though, those are a small minority of the builds you will face. For most builds, there is very rarely going to be a case where you need to strip multiple enchantments in one blow, and pretty much none where you need to do it more than once every 25 seconds.

What it comes down to is that it's better to bring a general counter to many builds that doesn't have quite as much oomph versus each individual build instead of a highly effective, very expensive counter to a single build.

Lingering curse needs to have a much nastier effect for it to be worth it. Stopping enchantments would be really nasty for use as a prespike strip, much like shatter enchant is used now. If it was made unremovable somehow (change it to a skill) it would be nasty and worth bringing. As it is, I crap myself a lot more when I see [skill]spoil victor[/skill] on me than this.
