Default Rit/M Build and Skill concerns

Hey all,
I just want to begin by saying that I am level 20 BUT, the truth is, I rushed to that level with the help of a GW friend. I am definitely lacking in GW smarts from all sides, and my fear of being turned down by more experienced players keeps me from advancing in the storyline and acquiring the skills I need to be respected in both PvE and PvP. I decided to be a restoration Ritualist because I figured that way I could stay behind enemy lines and learn more about what people are doing. Problem Is, I am lacking in both Monk and Ritualist skills, and the only Elite Skill I have is Ray of Judgement (Smiting), which is pointless if you are trying to be a healer...
I'm currently in Kaineng Center and stuck in Dragon's Throat (Challenge Mission) because I'm very shy and don't believe that I have the skills to join any group or be successful in PvE/P, thus leaving me with even less skills. It's a bad cycle.

I guess I want to know if this build is at least decent.

Pain
Create a level 5 Spirit. This Spirit's attacks deal 20 damage. This Spirit dies after 102 seconds.
Painful Bond
Hex Spell. For 16 seconds, target foe and all nearby foes are hexed with Painful Bond and take 15 damage whenever hit by a Spirit's attack.
Spirit Light
Spell. Sacrifice 17% Health. Target ally is healed for 140. If any Spirits are within earshot, you don't sacrifice Health.
Generous Was Tsungrai
Item Spell. Sacrifice 10% Health. Hold Tsungrai's ashes for up to 45 seconds and gain +110 maximum Health. When you drop his ashes, you gain 220 Health.
Soothing Memories
Spell. Target ally is healed for 70 Health. If you are holding an item, you gain 3 Energy.
Resilient Weapon
Weapon Spell. For 15 seconds, target ally has a Resilient Weapon. While suffering from a Hex or Condition, that ally gains +4 Health regeneration and +24 armor.
Shield Guardian
Enchantment Spell. For 10 seconds, target ally has a 75% chance to block incoming attacks. The next time target ally blocks an attack, that ally and all nearby allies are healed for 50 and Shield Guardian ends.
Mend Ailment
Spell. Remove one Condition (Poison, Disease, Blindness, Dazed, Bleeding, Crippled, Burning, Weakness, or Deep Wound) from target ally. For each remaining Condition, that ally is healed for 40 Health.

Conjuction Strategy
By using Pain first, I could make both Painful Bond more powerful, and Spirit Light would not shortchange me. As a result I could Attack, Hex and Heal successfully. By using Generous Was Tsungrai, I could make Soothing Memories more energy friendly.

Any feedback would be excellent, and any tips on allocating attribute points would be greatly appreaciated as well.
Thank you.

i would rather use RoF than shield guardian. Heals for more as well as dmg reduction. I would also swap out mend ailment for dismiss condition as well..

Firstly, bring a res. Rebirth (Prot), Lively was Naomi or Flesh of My Flesh (Resto), whichever.

Looks like you're in 4 (potentially 5 if you're using Spawning) different skill lines. I'd try to reduce that number down to 2 or 3. I'd drop Painful Bond and any points in Channeling. I really only use PB if I have 4 or 5 attacking spirits on my bar, not when I only have Pain.

I think the first Resto build I made centered around Resilient & Warding Weapons and Wielder's Boon. Bring along Union and Shadowsong & you can use Spirit Light optimally.

I wouldn't invest a lot into Protection skills (maybe Protective Spirit). I tried using RoF along with Vengeful Weapon, but it just ticked me off healing people for 15. Anything you want to do in Protection can pretty much be done in Restoration (eg, bring Mend Body & Soul instead of Mend Ailment).

Try a bunch of different things. Cap Wanderlust & be a spirit spammer (with Painful Bond). Use Destruction & Rupture Soul to kill things. It's all good.

edit in case my advice wasn't too clear:
12 pts in Restoration
10 in Communing
8 in Spawning (or something, change communing & spawning to suit).
[card]Resilient Weapon[/card][card]Weapon of Warding[/card][card]Wielder's Boon[/card][card]Spirit Light[/card][card]Union[/card][card]Shadowsong[/card][card]Signet of Creation[/card][card]Lively was Naomei[/card]

Can throw in Protective Spirit there somewhere, or whichever. You'll have to play around with what feels more effective.

Thank you for your help guys : )
One of my other concerns is really trying to find the confidence to team up with strangers over GW. Any tips you guys got? Like, um, when you guys were new to the game, did you go around asking people if they could team up with you in quests/missions? Is that what I should do?

I'm very shy in person. On-line, I don't have any hang-ups because no one can seem me sweat or stutter.

Just go on the "All" chat and say, "Rit lfg for mission" (lfg - Looking For Group)

People who are intelligent will add you because very few monks are around (usually).

Often as a Restore Rit, I bring 2 spirits, flesh of my flesh, and the rest are restoration healing magic spells.

When I first started my Ritualist, I had no one helping me (except the odd pickup group). My guildies and friends were rarely on-line when I was. So I would learn as I went along. I died many times before understanding what I could do as a Ritualist and what I could do as a player (understanding the quests and the environment I was in).

Just to clarify, Dragon's Throat is not a city mission. It is a Challenge Mission that is optional. To continue the game, talk to the guy at the Dragon's Throat and do the primary quest (Searching For The Stars, or something like that). If you would like help, I'll help you. I can bring my Ritualist if you'd like as well.

Add me to friends if you wish: Dargoth Alfazul

I may be playing a different character, but don't be afraid to ask for my help if you find me on-line. I'm always happy to help people and to find new friends.

Good luck!

Being a good player always means being able to change your build depending on the mission. When you get more comfortable with the game, explore the other ritualist lines. Channeling can a be a lot of fun once you know how it works. I have a build for every rit line, so if my team needs me to do a certain task, I'll be prepared.

For resto, I usually run something like this:

[skill]Mighty Was Vorizun[/skill][skill]Life[/skill][skill]Preservation[/skill][skill]Mend Body And Soul[/skill][skill]Spirit Light[/skill][skill]Soothing Memories[/skill][skill]Ghostmirror Light[/skill][skill]Flesh Of My Flesh[/skill]

Restoration 12 + 1 + 3
Communing 9
Spawning 9

I switch my item spell sometimes, but I like Mighty for +15 in case agro targets me, and who doesn't need +30 energy? The +30 makes up for the energy I lose using the hold spell, and also gives me a bit of a bonus.

Life is a great spike heal, it's saved my party numerous times.

Preservation is my favorite restoration elite. I know you won't be able to use it, but when you get the opportunity to cap it I highly suggest it. Having preservation around is like having an extra monk, its takes a bit of pressure off the other support characters, and yourself.

The others are basic resto healing spells. I'd definitely take mend body and soul though, to give a nice heal and strip conditions.

Flesh of my Flesh or any other res is an absolute must. I use Flesh though for the quick cast a recharge, don't let the health loss scare you. Just cast it when you're being left alone, then you can easily heal yourself back to full a bar.

If you need any help, feel free to contact me in-game, my rit is Lliessa D. I'd be happy to help you with missions, or answer any other questions you might have.

Happy ritting.

Considering you have 3 moderate heals on your bar, consider replacing Ghostmirror with [skill]Feast of Souls[/skill]. Both Preservation and Life are fast cast/fast recharge spirits. Just make sure to use Feast of Souls near the end of life's cycle. (Killing both spirits=about 180 points of party healing, and then the extra healing from Life (which near the end of the cycle should be around 100 or so...which becomes about a 280pt Heal....good for an "OH S**T button).
You could use [skill]Spirit to Flesh[/skill] with Life, if you don't want to sacrifice preservation, but I prefer Feast of Souls.

Consider, also, Spirit Light Weapon+Wielder's Boon as your combination.

Resto:12+1+3
Spawning:11+2 (26% duration increase....13 seconds of Spirit Light Weapon...which means, at worst, a 208 heal for 13 second, at best, a 416 heal....for 5 energy)
Inspiration/Utility Line

[skill]Recuperation[/skill][skill]Life[/skill][skill]Spirit Light Weapon[/skill][skill]Wielder's Boon[/skill][skill]Feast of Souls[/skill]or[skill]Spirit to Flesh[/skill]

This leaves you with 3 slots for utility. Go /Me would be my recommendation for Inspired Hex (since Rits lack inherent hex removal). Also, [skill]Channeling[/skill] often proves useful as E-Management in factions for PvE healers. Rangers like to cast laceration and other "non-hostile" spirits, so just sit next to them and appreciate the free energy. Also, Channelling requires little investment to be effective. (At Rank 7 it lasts twice it's recharge!) Mesmer also offers some other utility you may find useful. Since you're not using a stance, feel free to take one from the mesmer line (abuse the mantras for e-management if you can. Remember...Wands deal elemental damage, so if you know the type that the casters in the area are wanding you for, use it to your advantage! In the City area, most eles are fire-oriented, mantra of flame really helps and lasts quite a while.)

I hope that helps =)

PS: Xio is my guildmate, we'd be glad to get more Rits out into the world =)
