W/Mo Troll Farmer
I know exactly what your going to say "A Troll Farmer!?!!!??! Trolls have crappy drops!! What about AoE?"
Well I will help you out on all those questions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Troll Farmer!?!!!??!
Yes a troll farmer, its an easy way to get money and with this warrior build it takes 2-3 minutes a farm. But its fun, unlike other farming builds.
Trolls have crappy drops!
Trolls usually have crappy drops, but 2/3 times you farm them you find one dye, and 1/5 dyes are white, silver, or black. Just yesterday I found a Vampiric Spatha of TenguSlaying. Max. Is that crappy? I then bought a +30 pommel for 10k then put it on the sword. I am selling it for 30-40k.
What about AoE?
Well this build causes absolutely no AoE. Not once has a SINGLE troll ran away from me. I swear.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now for the build.
My original version of the build was put on PvXBuilds, here is a link!
Mountain Troll Farmer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Mountain Troll Farmer takes advantage of the Warrior's ability to block attacks, to get close to the large numbers of trolls found in Talus Chute. Then He/She uses Cyclone Axe to get his/her Adrenaline pumping to wipe out those trolls, while using Healing Skills to stay alive.
~~~~~Attributes and Skills~~~~~
~~~~Warrior / Monk~~~~
~Attribute~~~~~Rank
~Tactics~~~~~~12 + 2
~Axe Mastery~~~9 + 2 + 1
~Healing Prayers~9
~Strength~~~~~3
~~~~~Equipment~~~~~
Armor
~Max Gladiators Armor is preferable. 3 Knights Armor and 2 Radiant Armor.
Weapons
~I use the Totem Axe, but Victo's Battle Axe works better.
~Also use the Crimson Carapace Shield.
~~~~~Usage~~~~~
Leave Droknars Forge and go to Talus Chute. Now run towards the troll caves (to your left). Try to avoid the Avicara they are annoying. Then, when your right outside the caves, and outside of the trolls Aggro, use Live Vicariously, then when your Energy is full use Mending. Now run into the caves and round up the trolls. If you have 20 energy leftover after mending then you can use Sprint to round up the trolls (not very effective) or use Cyclone Axe twice. When the trolls start attacking you use Gladiators Defense followed by Vigorous Spirit. Then use Cyclone Axe (twice if you have enough energy). Then right as Gladiators Defense finishes use Bonetti's Defense. Once Cyclone Axe has recharged use it again, immediately followed by Bonetti's Defense. Then again use Cyclone Axe followed by Bonetti's Defense. Continue this pattern untill Gladiators Defense is ready. When Gladiators Defense is ready, use Cyclone Axe, then Gladiators Defense, then Healing Breeze, then Vigorous Spirit, then Cyclone Axe (twice if it says you have 4 energy left). Then repeat the cycle untill the trolls are dead! (roughly 3 minutes).
Here is the skill order.
Sprint (to get to the caves and avoid/drop avicara/trolls).
Live Vicariously
Mending
Round up trolls
Gladiators Defense
Vigorous Spirit
Cyclone Axe
Cyclone Axe (if you have the extra energy)
Bonetti’s Defense
Cyclone Axe
Bonetti’s Defense
Cyclone Axe
Bonetti’s Defense
Cyclone Axe
Gladiators Defense
Healing Breeze
Vigorous Spirit
Cyclone Axe
Cyclone Axe (if you have the extra energy)
Bonetti’s Defense
Cyclone Axe
And continue until the trolls are dead!
~~~~~~Picture~~~~~~
All in one picture of what you need!
~~~~~~Variants~~~~~~
There are many other Warrior/Monk Farming techniques of these trolls but the most effective is this one!
~~~~~~Notes~~~~~~
You need at least 25 energy to run this build effectively so make sure you either have Gladiators Armor, or Runes to boost your energy!
I can do this farm with -15% DP. Although I have never tried it with -30% because that has never happened!
Every 5 spawns you will find a spawn where the Avicara are literally covering the entire map, if that happens, just rezone.
You get a Dye 2/3 times you kill the trolls. And 1/8 dyes are black, white, or silver. I got a Black Dye just yesterday!
1/10 times you farm the trolls you will find a good gold weapon, I found a Vampiric Spatha of Tenguslaying just the other day. I then bought a +30 Sword Pommell and am still selling it for 30-40k!
This is also a great way to power level friends! I ask for 1k per level and all the drops. If it is a good friend, just ask for drops.
Do not round up the trolls by the bosses with the first batch, you will most likely die.
This build uses only Core Skills, so anyone can use it and I am sure that you could toss some Factions or Nightfall skills in there!

well the build isn't anything new and troll farming is just for fun now
but plz tell me: why the ---- are you using mending+heiling breeze? >.<
Put in Dolyak or Watch Yourselves and the new AoE Skill Whirlwind or how it's called
the axe isn't really good for your warrior...
take a 15^50 or 15 while enchanted and you'll do a lot more dmg. Also 2 Major Runes aren't a great chance. You might get 2 Headwears: one on Axe and one on Tactics. Always use the Tactics when activating Glad's and then switch back to the Axe Headwear

You are TRYING to sell it for 30k-40k... good luck.
And no, troll farming is not fun. Farming is fun when you actually get something worthwhile... sadly Troll Tusks aren't in demand anymore.

sorry but the build is even bad...
you kill the monsters all at the same time...
need to kill them one by one...
take a lot longer but you get a lot more drops
and for a chance of 1% for getting a white / black dye (not that they are much worth nowadays) its just waste of time...
try to ad it and farm hm vermins...
or just make a 55hp mesmer/monk/necro

ok...
@ dont feel no pain: Yes we all know how much of a pain the patch was, thanks for the good feedback.
@ The.D0pefish: Dolyak? Why? Dolyak wouldn't work well with this build because it has only three stength. And Watch Yourself requires adrenaline which this build really can't spare, and it really doesn't help much, it only decreases the damage they deal by like 5. And healing breeze is mainly just a backup really, in case you are slowly losing health. If you want that could be the "optional" slot.
The axe? The +5 energy lets me use cyclone axe twice whenever I use gladiators defense. It helps. And I am too lazy to pay 15k for a Victo's Axe. As for the headwear thing.... forget it!!! Thats a very dumb idea if you ask me, because the health it subracts isn't that bad, the shield counters 45 of the health then the armor counters 40, yay back to norm. health.
@ Sujoy: You don't get troll tusks all the time! They are 20g each yay.... I usually get Raven Staffs which sell @ the trader for 50 gold each. Then I get Shields, Axes, Swords, Hammers, and bows. And thats about it. Then TWICE out of EVERY THREE TIMES I farm the trolls I get A DYE. THAT means for you NON-MATH LIKING people that IF I FARM THERE 3 TIMES I will have 2 DYES.
@ royal mercenary: Who said I kill them at the same time? I really don't. Usually 2 drop off before the rest, then 2 more, then 3 more, then 1 more, then 1 more, then 1 more. Because of Random damage!!!
1% chance? No way man thats like the stupidest thing I ever heard, I just grabbed a silver dye 5 minutes ago!!!! No its not 1% people I say 1/5 times you farm them you get Silver/White/Black dye. And I mean it!

Weak build, crap location, limited application, terrible drops, takes forever in HM. No matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd.
Four healing spells is totally unnecessary. A more conventional and modern build would be along the lines of
[skill=text]Enraging Charge[/skill][skill=text]Triple Chop[/skill][skill=text]Cyclone Axe[/skill] [wiki]Whirlwind Attack[/wiki] [skill=text]Desperation Blow[/skill][skill=text]Bonetti's Defense[/skill][skill=text]Dolyak Signet[/skill][skill=text]Live Vicariously[/skill]
Atts: Healing 8, Strength 15, Axe 12, Tactics 3.
Equip: [wiki]Wing's Axe[/wiki], [wiki]Merki's Gaze[/wiki] or [wiki]Exalted Aegis[/wiki], 5 x Knight's Insignia.
Usage: Run past Avicara, get to Troll cave, Live Vic, agro as many trolls as possible, Dolyak, Triple Chop, Bonetti's, Whirlwind Attack, Bonetti's, Cyclone Axe, Bonetti's, Whirlwind Attack, Bonetti's....yada yada yada...pick up drops. Cycling between attacks and Bonetti's = never interrupted.
Constant spammable AoE DPS, constant healing, adrenaline and energy, permanent 156AL, almost constant 75% block, can tank as many as can be agro'd and can take down Krogg Smush. Desperation Blow is there to apply conditions to Krogg so only leftover points should go into Tactics. Can go on to farm Tundra Giants unlike the OP build which will have frostbite on it's arse.
Troll Farming is about the oldest farm run in GW and there's a good reason no-one does it anymore...it's unprofitable compared to other runs. Troll Tusks, chalk drops with the occasional grape, almost zero gold drops....completely pointless. The only reasons to do this run is for powerleveling, elemental hilts, strings etc, iron, wood, tanned hides and collector's items. The days of merch food are long gone.
Good luck selling that very average sword and racking up the awesome dye count. Hot Tip - go farm Grawl outside Ruins of Surmia for dyes, Vermin outside Senji's Corner for better drops or bite the bullet and scrap the W/Mo altogether to farm UW and FoW for ectos and shards with W/Rt, W/D or W/Me.
BTW - AI healing scatter was removed in NM when HM was introduced...it's not your uber-secret build.
My $.02
[edit] For nostalgia's sake (and to collect Huge Jawbones to kit out some Heroes with collector weapons) i just ran the cave about 10 times for 1, count it again, 1 Red Dye.

Yeah ok... So I see those two other Ideas I will try them...
Is running still effective? And worth it? Or do people run themselves now (yeah right)
Ok So You want me to scrap the W/Mo He's me only level 20 aren't warriors good for other things too?
And yes I know its extremely old but Its my first build and its better then most other troll farming builds. I don't have factions yet so I couldn't use triple chop. So I think this build is good with the resources I have. But that sword realy isn't average... its almost as good as a Victo's Blade.
The four healing spells is very neccesary if you ask me. Because it definately keeps you alive. With just Vicariously in this build you would be dead faster then you can say cheese. Because its only 75% blocking and you have only one skill that damages all opponents arround you. The healing breeze is probly the one that takes it to far, healing breeze should be an optional skill I agree. Maybe someone would be stupid enough to put dolyak or watch yourself in I dunno.
IT WAS MY FIRST BUILD!!! ='(

And the bell tolls Wrong...Wrong...Wrong...
The old farming builds are stock-standard for a reason - they're efficient, effective and made the most of the skills available at the time. If you knew it was an old build, why bother resurrecting it in a crappier Core skill only form? The one i've posted is faster than your's and CAN get away with one heal - you're constantly hitting everyone around you for +10 heals (at 8 Healing).
If you don't have Factions, use Glad's Defense instead of Triple Chop. If you don't have Nightfall, drop Whirlwind Attack for Vigorous Spirit or dare i say it....Mending. Even better...go buy Factions and Nightfall, you won't regret it.
I don't mean to be so harsh, but you're mouthing off at some of the most knowledgeable and experienced players in Guild Wars like Dopefish and you posted it on PVX...dude, you're gonna get caned!
Other than that, nice first attempt at a guide - well thought out and obviously you put a lot of effort into it. Don't be put off by the criticism.

By all means keep the Warrior, but for farming there are much better secondaries. If you've ascended you can change it at any time and the secondary will change depending on what you're farming.

well...
it's a well written guide, but.... meh. you're in NM, which means mediocre drops (i understand you get dyes a lot and the occasional rare) but there are so many better farms out there, even for a proph only warrior. in Normal Mode, you can do Spider runs, which are great. in Hard Mode, i'm pretty sure even a proph only warrior can do the minos outside ice tooth and i'm positive they can do elementals outside Sardelac. all in all, good guide, not the best build or place.
P.S. antithesis, how do you farm Grawls outside surmia? the monks healing and wars' knockdowns are too much for most of my builds..... maybe it can be done with AV/SV?

Victo's sucks the big ones...you'd be lucky to get the 5K listed price in the Price Check forum so there's no way on God's green earth you're gonna get 30K
I realise it seems like i'm picking on you, but you've come to the wrong place if you're looking for a pat on the back for a bad build on an ancient run and trying to pass it off as "the most effective" when clearly there are faster, safer, more health / energy / armour / adrenaline / agro efficient & effective builds and equipment.
On the other hand I'm glad you're excited about Guild Wars and making your own builds, keep it up

Hey Fuzzy...do it in NM The drop rate of dyes is pretty high because they drop a very limited range of items. Best place post-searing i've found. I usually only do it when collecting necklaces for Xmas grog. I can post my Uber-build if you'd like!!1!

This is a nicely- laid out guide, but, no offense meant, this is not worth the time. Especially not in NM, and after loot scaling. The whole point of troll-farming was to amass large amounts of merchant fodder in a short amount of time. Trolls are OK for XP-farming, I suppose.
*offtopic
@Fuzzy Taco: I think Antithesis means farm Grawl outside Surmia in Normal; you can one-hit kill them, and for dye drops you want to kill as many foes as possible in the shortest amount of time(Dye drops from anything, so you increase your odds of a dye by increasing the # of kills).

Ascalon AoE WTFPWNAGE, maybe [skill]Flame Djinn's Haste[/skill], or[skill]Elemental Lord[/skill], but that is only for 1337 h4xx0rs

R.I.P Drok's Troll Run
For those of you curious about whether or not the Troll farm is a) doable in HM and b) worthwhile....behold the treasures that await the brave!
ahem... Same chalky goodness you get in NM. HM can do with a bit more healing and you need an interrupt for Healing Signet. Took about 20 mins to kill 19 trolls
Doable it is yes, fun it is not. AI scatter combined with Healing Sig makes for an exercise in futility and the rewards...well, they speak for themselves.
R.I.P Troll farm. May your dusty bones henceforth remain forever unmolested. Please Silly Warrior, close this thread and burn it!

You can clear the main mob in the cave in less than 3 mins (always says 2 mins on /age), i used my build not the OP....i just CAN'T take 4 heals on the same bar. It takes about 5 mins to clear all trolls including Krogg Smush, leaving Whuup Buumbuul alive.
Point taken though, there are more productive ways to use that 5 mins.
