N/A Stygian Veil; Updated! Dual with a hero.
Hey all. Ever since Hard Mode came out, i've been farming Veil with the N/R veil farmer, located here: click
I noticed that it got really boring really fast because it was incredibly slow. I said to myself, "I miss the old Deadly Paradox / Shadow of Haste stygian farmer. Shadow of Haste rocks... if only i could get it to recharge faster..." and then, as i scrolled through some ranger skills on wiki, i saw quickening zephyr. then, the idea of dualing with a hero got into my tiny mind. i went from there.
without further ado, let me present the new and improved stygian dual run!
Your Build:
12+3+1 = 16 Curses
8+1 = 9 Blood Magic
10 Shadow Arts
You need a set of high health armor and a set of 55 armor. to reach 55 health, put superior runes on all pieces of armor and use the -50 hp grim cesta from the cities of ascalon quest. for a one handed weapon, use something with 20% longer enchantments to keep Awaken the blood up indefinitely. I personally use the spirit of the forgotten.
[skill]Awaken the Blood[/skill] [skill]Suffering[/skill] [skill]Feast of Corruption[/skill] [skill]Desecrate Enchantments[/skill] [skill]Defile Enchantments[/skill] [skill]Consume Corpse[/skill] [skill]Shadow of Haste[/skill] [skill]Dash[/skill]
Thy hero's build:
Margrid or Jin
12+3+1 Wilderness survival
12 Blood Magic
3 Expertise
Equipment matters little. *NOTE* I personally disable all Margrid's skills and cast them myself, because she mucks up the timing. trust the AI at thy own risk.
[skill]Awaken the Blood[/skill] [skill]Blood Renewal[/skill] [skill]Blood is Power[/skill] [skill]Blood Ritual[/skill] [skill]Serpent's Quickness[/skill] [skill]Quickening Zephyr[/skill] [skill]Storm Chaser[/skill] [skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
ok, now that we have the builds squared away, now comes the tactics.
Zone out into the Stygian Veil. Run to the two Whispers NPCs. talk to the one without a quest, get the bounty. take the quest, run int this corner, order your hero here as well:
Many people know this as the spot where the stygians won't getcha.
after the evil little buggers settle, flag your hero hereish:
then, magically, hero's name will be grayed out when you actually kill the stygians:
Now, let's start with the easternmost group. to kill the hungers, switch to your 55 armor / weaponry. then, use awaken the blood, use suffering, run away with dash. wait until they break aggro and resettle. then, run back in and use Feast of Corruption. run away with Dash. Desecrate enchantments. Dash. repeat until mob dies. *NOTE* strike the final blow with FoC or desecrate/Defile. if they degen to death and you're out of range, you will get no drops, XP, or LB points. blech.
alright, as you kill the groups, hide in your safe corner. now, the fun begins. here's why you brought your hero. These Brutes are too fast to outrun with just Dash (in Hard Mode, anyway.)to kill them, have your hero cast serpent's quickness then Quickening Zephyr. WHILE YOU ARE IN RANGE OF QZ, cast shadow of haste. it will recharge a lot faster. now, run in, cast Suffering, use dash to escape. wait for Shadow of Haste to recharge, hit it again, run in, cast FoC on the mob, use dash to escape. about now, have your hero recast QZ WITH SERPENT'S QUICKNESS ON. if you're having energy issues, target thyself and have thy hero BiP you. if you somehow die, which may happen if you misclick or hit the wrong button (i know, i've hit the 7 button a million times by accident wondering "Gee, why isn't dash triggering?") then just target youself and have your hero rez ya. use the shadow of haste trick on every mob except hunger mobs. In the mixed mobs/fiend mobs, try to teleport away as fast as possible to avoid being missed by the fiends arrows (demonic miasma = 50 damage whenever a fiend arrow misses you. use high health armor when dealing with anything that involves fiends.) you can leave your hero in the middle route (first hero placement) for the two outside mobs (the easternmost and westernmost ones.) however, once you begin to kill the middle mob, move your hero here:
if you don't, stygians will spawn right on top of poor margrid (she doesn't fare too well vs. an angry mob of minion lookalikes.)
after killing the middle mob, you're done! congrats! pick up your drops and head back to the start, where you can kill this group here, bit by bit, with your hero BiPing you:
when you're gonna kill something, move your hero out of radar range to get all the drops. use consume corpse to retrieve a drop. you will then be killed, and that'll end the run.
final tips / things to remember:
ALWAYS use shadow of haste under the effect of Quickening zephyr.
ALWAYS use high health armor vs. fiends or mixed mobs.
ALWAYS use 55 armor vs. Hungers.
ALWAYS move your hero when you try to kill the middle mob, or else hero dies and you have to quit.
ALWAYS kill the easy mob in the trench after you're done with the main farm.
ALWAYS try to think of ways to improve the farm.
NEVER flame me.
NEVER hesitate to ask me for help, in game or otherwise. whether or not you can see the images, my IGN is Noodle Bury Pie.
These are the LB points i've gotten mainly from this run:
Credit goes to:
Whoever posted the N/R veil solo build on wiki. It got me going farming these things, and was incredibly creative.
Soqed Hozi (he won't see this, but i'll thank him anyway) because he wrote a great guide on the old solo N/A build.
jbwarrior, who has another thread around here somewhere for the N/A veil build, which was another source of inspiration.
My guild and all of its leetness.
my friends and all of their leetness.
Last but not least, my cousin, who said the word zephyr in a conversation, which made me look Quickening Zephyr up on wiki, which gave me the idea for this build.
Feedback plz.

Nice build. Gonna try it asap. 2 questions:
How long does it take?
How many LB points you get per run?

answering your ?s:
you'll get 864 LB points just by farming the main groups, not counting the easy group in the trench or the Underlords (which can be done with this build, i'm still editing the guide, hope to get screenies up by tomorrow, maybe a video.) as far as the length of time of a run, it's generally about 20-30 minutes to clear out the entire quest and easy group. i usually get about 5-10 stygian gemstones per finished run.

good idea solus, but the only reason i need the quicker recharge is Shadow of Haste, and Wep of quickening doesn't help the recharge of stances. ty for the feedback all!
