Phantoms using Cry of Frustration - unbeatable interrupter?
(sorry if this has been dealt with before, searching for the skill name only returned 3 posts :P )
Summary - The Phantom that uses Cry of Frustration skill... how to combat this solo? The skill desc says it can be used once in 20 secs...but im being interrupted every couple of seconds...why? Any advice please?
I posted this in another thread (talking about differences between skill loadout in PvP and PvE and specifically beasts vs humans) but i dont think i will be answered there, so ill try here if i may thanks.
I was trying to HM solo (W/N) a bit off Perdition Rock and found the oh so lovely flying Squid thingy..Phantom i think it was called? Basically it does no damage but boy does it interrupt! I couldnt do it any damage as it would keep blinding me and when i went to use a spell it would always interrupt.
Very frustrating but im up for a challenge... so i nip off to the wiki and read up about the skill it was using to interrupt.. 'Cry of Frustration' (lol so aptly named) and i find that it has a recharge time of 20 seconds (going from memory here as i cant access wiki from here)
So i think fine..ill go back and cast a dummy spell so it interupts that and then i can right away cast my real spell.....but no! Bam bam bam it can instantly re interrupt right away again!
Is this a case of the monster having multiple copies of that spell, all of which recharge individually, or monsters skills do not work anything like ours? Or is this what Lyra refers to when saying that the skill system is not the same as PvP? If so..yes, i agree, i think it would make more sense and be less confusing if monsters had 8 skills. Sure they can still have their unique monster skills, but im not sure how wise it is that they can appear to not adhere to the same 'laws' of skills as us.
I tried asking advice in 6 different districts on this and any counters/defences to it..but no one replied even on the occassions my question didnt get trade spammed to death. (hence why im taking the opportunity to slip it in on this thread ;P) cheers
edit - ok on the wiki it says this:
From the wiki:
"Beware that their AI is capable of interrupting even the quickest of skills. This can be used to your advantage, however. Cast meaningless spells first (cheap spells, preferably ones with short recharge times) and save important spells for later."
Yet...i found that it interrupted me twice in a row ( i had no energy left to try a 3rd before 20 secs), seconds after each other, so im not sure whats happening. Cheers
edit - hmm, the skill Mantra of Resolve may help me.. (thanks for the advice Toshiro Tagachi i cant test it yet as i havent learnt the skill; but i think i have enough energy to cast 1 suicide spell on the phantom, and then hope it dies before the spell ends.. :S im not sure if it will die in time though.... or maybe my energy will regain enough to allow for the energy loss at my being interrupted...to recast suicide spell twice... *fingers crossed*
my best is getting it to half health. i cant use melee even if i want because i miss i cant build adrenaline heh.. i guess if i get mantra of resolve..and bring a condition removal skill...and just hope that the phantom cant spam blind like it can spam cry of frustration.... :/ either way.. with my low energy as a warrior it wont be easy, unless im way of track heh

I Dont Know if this still works
The AI of those nice squishy squids used to work as follows:
If the attacker is welding a melee weapon, they must not be a spell caster so blind them so they cant attack
if the attacker is welding a staff or a wand, they must be a caster so don't bother to blind them.
The Squids take double damage from holy damage. So, get yourself a low requirement or no requirement smiting staff or wand, and just wand the bass turds to death.
let me know if this helps and is worthwhile - I may want to go and do this myself.
PM me ingame as Sean the Destructor - I would like to know your build.

Good call on the holy damage and the tip about how they dont blind you if you dont have a melee wep! Ill PM you now, there are a couple of basic things you can chuck on your skill bar but most of it is icing. At the end of the day, it can be used to easily take the phantoms...but thats it :P anything else wipes you out heh.

If all else fails, try to lure the enemy into interupting a less important skill. If, say, you are at full health and have Heal Sig on your health bar, run out and start casting it so the enemy will use their interupt on you. Once they interupted your useless skill, cast your important skill. Admittedly this strategy doesn't work too well when you have a lot of enemies that you are facing at once, but sometimes it can help.

hiya, cheers for the advice. The thing is, i thought that would work as well and tried this and it didnt work... and that is the other part of my question - do monsters not obey the skills rules?
ie.. cry of frustration has a 20 sec recharge - yet it can reuse it again with a second or two...

HM Monster skills recharge twice as fast. Some also have multiple copies of a skill (generally bosses) i.e. you hit them with diversion and they cast the skill again a second later

HM monsters don't follow the rules. They've been buffed in almost every way. You want to know what a HM skill does? Set it to like 20 attrib points and then halve everything except casting cost. Course most run builds that would be called noob by noobs, and are as stupid as, well, something really stupid. So I guess it evens out.

Put Heal sig as skill 1, then quickly and simultaneously press 1 and Esc, see how many times it tries to use CoF. But with Hard mode steroids it'll probably interrupt you in that tiny window of time that you're cancelling Heal sig.
