Modern Approach to Beating Mallyx
Hey all,
I am presently at Mallyx with a few friends and could use some advice on how to approach beating him. I failed against him today, but I completely forgot Gaze of Fury, so that stands to reason. This was my team:
Humans:
- D-Slash SY x 2
- Smite Support Monk
Heroes:
- UA Prot
- HB Healer
- Communing/Channeling Rit
- MM
- Panic Mesmer
The initial enemies were easily dispatched, so I just need some tips for Mallyx.
My biggest question: Is simply having my Monk friend take Gaze of Fury to kill the energy and miss spirits going to suffice? If that's so, then great. If not, well, so be it; I'm open to suggestions.

try to avoid ench and hexes, they'll harm you more then they harm malyx. So make the UA a healer, with ua for res and switch the hb for a woh of some kind. Maybe switch mm for an order dervish or something? and Let the main damage be physical.

I would do this with your rit:
Soul Twisting *
Shelter
Disenchantment
Pain
Shadowsong
Gaze of Fury (don't need channel spec)
Lightbringer Signet
Great Dwarf Weapon / Dissonance / Rez / Optional
And switch your necro from MM to something useful:
Signet of Spirits
Bloodsong
Vamprism
Painful Bond
Splinter Weapon?
Another skill line (resto heals, enfeeble, PvE, whatever)
If you want even more safety, throw tryptophan sig on someone like a warrior or monk. Basically the spirit masses will make Mallyx completely useless - they will surround him and bodyblock him when he does summoning shadows, shadowsong will keep him mostly blind, and shelter will stop any attacks that do get through. It's also high single-target damage that will wear him down fast. Make sure to kill the margonite spawns the moment they appear, mallyx will be kept busy enough to be mostly ignored.
You can afford a few hexes and conditions, just don't go stacking them high on mallyx as he will remove regularly. Do NOT use ANY enchantments when fighting him, EVER. Even if you want to stick to HB/UB, you have to drop them before mallyx, and I would not even bring patient spirit. Really rits and n/rts are better healers here due to that, but you gotta use your monks for something.

Thanks for the advice, guys. If only I had remembered Gaze of Fury earlier, Mallyx would have been a breeze. It absolutely shuts his spirits down, and Tryptophan Signet slowed him down quite a bit.

It helps to know and understand the monster skills. The reason you don't use hexes and conditions vs Mallyx is that he has a skill that heals him when he's hexed or conditioned.
For prot vs Mallyx, you have your SY and you can use Soul Twisting Communing spirits, or EBSoC. Do not use a prot monk. Use the UA skill only when u need to rez. No other enchants should be used in the Mallyx portion of the quest. WoH is a very good heal elite for this particular fight.
If you are using SY, be sure to have adequate hex removal, as the Anur Dabi will certainly try to keep Vocal Minority on you. (Good idea to kill him first).
Panic is a great skill, but not really intended for single creatures/boss fights. Consider a different elite if Mallyx is giving you trouble. If you are using physicals, consider weapon spells to buff. They can't be removed, and skills like Nightmare Weapon are great against high-armored targets such as Mallyx. Great Dwarf Weapon is LOL fun as well.
Gaze of Fury or Consume Soul certainly make things easier, though you can still win without them. Good Luck!

I do it pretty easily heroway, just flag a hero with the elite that steals all of a spirit's life and has a 5 secs recharge to the back, between the 4 spirits. In 20 seconds he will have killed the 4 spirits.
Edit : That elite is consume soul (Thanks to the above post for reminding me :d)

Yeah, thanks for all the advice everybody. What surprised me was that apparently my Monk buddy's Gaze kept all four spirits at bay for some time. CS would have made it even easier, but even with his elite ebing RoJ, we didn't see one death against Mallyx.

Skimmed all the comments but an extremely easy way of beating him...jump the door...right when the cut scene hits all hit escape, that will keep the door open so you wont have to deal with all the stuff inside, kill mallyx spawn the chest then kill everything inside, and don't use hexes and enchants while fighting him.
If you are unsure how to do it have a character ready for mallyx and we'll see if we will have room, lately we've had full guild parties.
