Sorrow's Furnace discussion.
Never ran it before, but I just helped one of my buddies get to Deldrimor War Camp so we can give it a try in the coming days. What can we expect? Is it worth the pain in the end? Anyone want to tag along? Just looking for a general discussion of the dungeon, it looks like it'd be fun.

It was hard according to 2005 standards. Nowadays with 7 heroes and tons of powercreep it isn't difficult at all. There are no real stuff up points like in UW; just do the quests, use your brain here and there, and you'll be fine. If it was one of the EotN dungeons, it'd be one of the easier ones.

Yeah, it's definitely good to play though and see what it's like. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but it's nonetheless worthwhile.

Don't expect to become rich doing a few runs there, as it certainly isn't the goldmine it was back when it first came out. However, the quests are fun and the scenery is breathtaking.
It's definitely worth your time to do the quest chain at least once.

And while you're at it, you can hatch your Mini Black Moa Chick, if you have all the prerequisite items.

Go Everywhere. See Everything.
Oh, and kill some Dorfs. WOO!
Yeah, definitely not the challenge it originally was, but it is definitely something to experience.

Also note that, unlike other dungeons, there is no reward chest at the end. (Unless it's been changed.)

Sorrow's Furnace is good fun. It's definitely worthwhile running thorugh it, and it wasn't too challenging even using 3 heroes and 4 hench, although with 7 heroes it's easy enough. good fun for an evening though.
It would be worthwhile doing the scavenger hunt for the black moa chick as this would give you a unique mini which is a point in your hom. So potentially 2 additions to hom.

its great to go back and see what used to be FREE content updates (cough eotn cough) before other chapters came out....and you might pick up a green weapon in the process (some are still sought after--but still not worth a whole lot--good for heroes), and now that you can flag heroes, its much easier than when it first came out.

The only reason I did it was for the Black Moa Chick but other than that there's nothing special waiting at the end. The only mission I say was a pain was "Unspeakable, Unknowable" because High Priest Alkar had a real bad habit of running away from the group and getting killed (and you lose) and when he's on the steps you can't leave him alone or he gets killed (again you lose) and he won't follow your group at that part of the mission so you have to leave part of your group behind just to protect him.

Great fun! And, as others have said, this was free content that blew us away when it came out. Reminds me of GW at its peak. Well worth doing.

Oh come on. You can't possibly compare Sorrow's Furnace to EOTN. EOTN probably has ten times the content of SF if not more.

Not completely true (unless they have changed it)... i has been a loooong time since i did SF, but i remember there were chests popuping after finishing certain parts in SF. At those days there was no HM and afaicr the drops from those chests were always purple (but it is/was possible to get purple Crystallines that way).
Tip: in case you run SF with heroes, make sure you flag your heroes away (till their names become grey) before you open such chest.

That's only during one particular quest - Kilroy Stonekin, part of To Sorrow's Furnace - which is more of a separate quest that happens in SF, than part of simply clearing the dungeon. (Much like the EotN quests that take place in a dungeon.)

This!
Orozar was a fun quest, too, lol.
You ain't gonna get rich or have ULTIMATE EPICK ADVENTUREā¢ down there, but you'll have fun. And the place looks pretty freaking cool. They did a great job on Sorrow's Furnace.

About 5 years ago, when I used to join groups 'farming' Sorrow's Furnace for green weapons (I only ever got one) everything was always too rushed to really appreciate the atmosphere and scenery - it was an effort just to stay alive. Now I find it is a great pleasure to go back and leisurely fight through Sorrow's Furnace with my heroes. For a dungeon area it really is rendered very nicely. It very much reminds me of the scenes in the movie Lord Of The Rings where they are going through the Mines of Moria. Very atmospheric.
