I have, well had a deadly arts build for PvE. I used both skills that are mentioned here - that is deadly paradox and entangling asp. I made it because I liked entangling asp so much. I built my build around it.
I don't usually spend large amounts of time making builds anymore because of nerfing, but this one I did work on and design with care and now look. Exactly what I should have expected!
My hubby on the other hand tries to avoid cookie cutter builds, so he always spends a lot of time and gp making unique builds for all of his characters and they always get nerfed due to PvPrs. In addition, it's always the very skill that he built his whole build around that gets the nerf, rendering his whole character useless! He's tired of it.
I can't believe how people whine and complain about a skill, stamping thier feet like a child, "No fair! He killed me! Boo, hoo, hoo! Whhaaahhahhaaah! I want that skill gone! He killed me too easily! I don’t suck! It’s him! He’s to blame! Whhaaahhahhaaah!”
And this is listened to??!! That’s even more appalling!
And then PvE gets ruined. Really, THAT is what isn't fair.
There is nothing that I dislike more about this game than skill nerfing. Most other things are great. Skill nerfing is horrible. It shouldn't happen.

Deadly paradox did.
and deadly paradox build was a cookie cutter.

oh yeah - so basically remove the spark of variety some things have to offer?
skill nerfs add something to the game that is incredibly good - and if you cant change your build every now and then...well the only way i can put it is FAIL.
and if you dislike skill nerfing - you are playing the wrong game

WHY would you make a build based on entangling asp for PvE? I mean, seriously. Proof that anything can work in PvE.

Do what everyone else does whenever skills are changed; adapt. That is the nature of an online RPG. If skill balancing crushes your (and your husband's) soul that hard, play something else.
BTW, you're crazy if you think DP + EA wasn't a cookie cutter template. It was the only thing good that came out of DP, and happened to break it.

Actually, it was more like "No fair! This skill makes deadly arts assassins useful by completely breaking them, what the hell was ANet thinking?!"

Do you even remember what ether renewal used to be like? Do you remember when Oath Shot recharged resurrection signets? Do you remember when warriors could run Shadow Prison and every class could run Blinding Surge? How about the INFINITE amounts of energy generated by energizing chorus?
Either you suck at PvP or you just plain don't care about it, and in either case, a single skill nerf has never actually affected the state of PvE to the point of unplayability.
Go back to WoW.

No way in hell.
Anyways Its generally a bad Idea to use entangling asp in PVE.
Really Entangling's only use to me outside of DP imba spam
Would be with assassins promise.

For the record, Deadly Arts builds are not reserved for assassins only. However, there are very few choices for an all Deadly Arts build and I use the Assassin’s Promise elite to gain energy since I had energy problems. As you know, I have to kill the monster at a certain rate or I can’t use my elite. However, I can’t kill the monster at this rate because Deadly Paradox has been nerfed. So essentially, my character is SOL.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here I am, coming to play guild wars on the weekend after a hard week’s work. I have all my household responsibilities, errands, etc done and can look forward to relaxing in one of my favorite games. I have big plans for my characters. However, after seeing the nerfs my hubbie doesn’t want to play and neither do I. The weekend of play GWs is canceled and we do something else.
Far, far away in a land called PvPville, there’s someone who wants a random skill ruined or gone because he/she gets killed by it. This person could deal with the situation by making a new character or by changing his/her build to compensate – the same adapting that I have been requested to do.
However, instead, they complain and the skill gets destroyed. Now, a whole bunch of PvErs have to make a new character or change their builds when the situation had absolutely nothing to do with them.
In any event someone is going to be making a new character or changing their build. I just want to know why it’s the PvErs that must adapt rather than the complainers ? We are paying customers too.
The PvPrs have a challenge – an assassin or whatever it is that they hate beats them up and they understandabley don't like it. They should take on the challenge and make a new character that kills that assassin rather than complain about it until it goes away. Hence my reference to the childlike choice.
And yes, I did venture into PvP-land with my water ele/assassin and it wasn’t the assassins that got to me. They couldn’t catch me even if they death charged because I water hexed them and sped away. Perhaps they could cripple me but I combined hexes with caltrops and made them even slower. It was the SS skill and other various hexers that annoyed me. If I didn’t like those skills shutting me down, I could just play another character for a while that shut those SS skills down for a change. However, I did not as there was not enough story for me to stay in PvP, so I have not been there since. At that time, I was merely trying to get Balthazar points.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I understand that many of you competitive players think I should just play Ursan or a powerhouse build instead of a condition spreader or something unique just for the sake of "fun". Thus, I understand why you can’t see my point of view at all.
I am a role-player. I am not trying “to win” anything. I create a history for why my characters went a certain way with skills. I am just trying to have fun and play something unusual and different. It has nothing to do with power. It has to do with a 3-dimensional character who has these skills because of her personality and because of who she is. I am in it for the story and I like the story.
I actually valued my build so much that I spent my only Book of Secrets that I ever received on a weapon that could aid this build. I don’t have too much use for this weapon without this Deadly Arts build. This may not seem like a big deal to you, but I don’t make much money in this game (not a shocker since I am not after power). So it’s very hard to get a good weapon. I thought long and hard before I gave up my Book of Secrets.
So you see, there is a lot more lost here in PvE land than you think. It hurts a great deal. My point is, we PvErs are paying dearly for something that PvPrs don’t like. The fact is that this just isn't right.
I will always protest this type of nerfing and yes, I will whine and claim “no fair” here because after seeing this forum, it appears to be the only thing that works. It worked for you didn’t it?

Coz if they dun nerf it, pvpers will be hurted more. You cant say that you know "pvp" if you only go to RA or AB to stomp noobs. In pvp, we don't make a team build to just counter a damn thing. The goal is to keep the game from becoming "buildwars."
Still, I share your points. Why the heck Anet just seperate PvP and PvE completely? Make 2 versions of all skills,so that if 1 skill is nerfed, it only affects either PvP or PvE not both?

Good BHA rangers get me killed as a monk, but I don't want them nerfed. The reason I (and many others) complained was due to the disproportinate power and popularity of the build, and not for the childish reasons you suggest.
Since the nerf I've noticed a much greater variety in sin builds - I no longer automatically know the build sins are running in RA/TA, which IMO is a good thing.

Making 2 versions of each skill = Double the data for each skill.
Also its completely unnecessary, the fact that skills are changed frequently is 1 of the reasons I play guild wars.
I hate it when skills are stagnant, the game itself feels stagnant, and I quit and check wiki every week to see if they have changed some damn skills.
Mirt its RA.
Oh and if you see me in RA....your going to see tons of variety =P

When there is a serious outcry from a large portion of the PvP community for a 'random skill' to get nerfed you can be pretty sure it's broken.

Dryndalyn your looking at it in the wrong way, if you design a build for pvp specifically targeting one other build 9/10 times you will be useless because in more team based pvp, there isnt room for a deadly arts sin shutdowner because there usually isnt a need for it, the need only arises when people run builds that require no thought and no effort to kill something.
nerfs occur because the variety keeps everyone on their toes, it requires teams to rethink and still see if the skills in question are viable, also balances come around also to enlighten people, before the buff to the conjures they were hardly ever run, but then even after they renerfed them, people still run them because people have realised the usefulness of them.
although you may be complaining about the nerf to DP, the fact is, you will have to look at your character again, examining the skills before you had not looked at, that is why balances are so good, they shine light on previously unused skills that, once they are properly considered, can be used to aid a team and a player, in pvp and pve.
this is why Anet balances skills imo

For one thing, it costs too much to remake. 8k for a new skill bar. It's only 5k for an assassin tome, but I won't be able to be 2nd class assassin anymore so probably need at least 10k for a tome if the elite skill is far away. Several more K to replace all the insignias and runes in my armor as I will need to remake much of it. She is the only character that I have bought elite armor for and that took a long time in saving. And how much is a book of secrets worth? That item has now been rendered useless. How rich do you think I am? I am not a person who makes any money at all, so this is very costly.
In addition I pretended that she taught a second character everything she knows and had set up a second same character with a new 8k skill bar plus the Sin elite tome and armor sets. Fortunately I did not have another Book of Secrets to waste as that was my only one, so her weapons were cheaper.
I had not played the second character at all yet. I just spent the money fixing her up. What a waste! However, since she is new to the build, I can actually say that she rejected the teachings of her friend and didn't like the new build. But the former character has just been assassinated. I view her as not playable anymore as her past history I made up for her no longer makes any sense. This is due to the fact that I will have to change her secondary from assassin to something completely different and I can’t even afford to do that, let alone mess with her story.
I am very sad.
I feel as though I have had the wind knocked out of me and my motivation to play Guild Wars has been compromised.
I guess the best analogy is if someone had their great grandmother’s ring stolen and some ignorant person said that it was no big deal because the person can just buy another ring. They completely miss the fact that there is a sentimental value involved as there is some history behind the lost ring, which is why it is so heartbreaking.
Maybe this analogy helps clear it up for all of you non-role players.

I'm not going to type an essay to say this.
70% of the assasin skills were fine before the Nerf/Buffs. Entangling Asp would just be another unneeded casualty.
