Spirit Light Weapon
After reading various posts on this forum, I unearthed my Ritualist and cooked up a Restoration/Channeling template, focused primarily on the former. Since I have a very minute amount of elite skills, I thought I'd try out Spirit Light Weapon at 15 Restoration (15 hp per second or 30 within a spirit's range over 10 seconds).
I've been enjoying the spell, but I must wonder...
I've heard a lot of negative comments about this elite. Is there something I'm not getting here? On the surface, it seems that 300 hp after 10 seconds is good, especially as a cover to degeneration.

The thing about SLW is that the heal is overtime. It's basically regen, and an immediate health boost is more effective and useful than a heal overtime.
While, it is a big amount of "regen", there are much better and useful elite skills for a ritualist to bring. [skill]Offering of Spirit[/skill] and [skill]Weapon of remedy[/skill] being some of them.

Ouch...it'll take me forever to get that far into NF (for the life of me, I can't beat Jeannur's Hoarde). Any alternatives?

What horseradish said. The only reason to take a regen-based heal is when you have no good alternatives. Restoration rits already have stuff like spirit light that will push red bars up perfectly fine. Secondly, it's only 300 if someone is within range of a spirit, which your frontline often isn't.
Offering of spirit and weapon of remedy are probably the best rit elites in the game, so there's not really anything that can truly replace them. If you're looking for a place holder elite until you can get those, [skill]signet of spirits[/skill], [skill]spirit channeling[/skill] [skill]Attuned Was Songkai[/skill] or spirit light weapon will do in a pinch, but none of them are ideal. It may be worth picking up a tome if you've got the cash.

A truism for the ritualist is that an elite skill is not pivotal for the skill bar to be effective. A few of the regular skills are actually better than most of the elite skills ritualists have.

honestly I don't go ANYWHERE with my rit without bringing offering of spirit. and before I got far enough to get that I used Signet of Spirits. The rit really shines with the non-elite skills and how so many of them work together for such a great build. things like [skill]nightmare weapon[/skill] and [skill]wielder's strike[/skill] or [skill]bloodsong[/skill] and [skill]painful bond[/skill] can really deal some GREAT damage also skills like [skill]Wielder's Boon[/skill] and [skill]mending grip[/skill] work well with [skill]weapon of warding[/skill] and [skill]Resilient Weapon[/skill].

The biggest downfall of SLW is that you can't use Splinter Weapon on the same target.

That's you opinion.
If you're 100% restorer than it doesn't matter.
I hate to be 2 things at once.

Honestly the fact that SLW is essentially "regen" dosen't bother me, in fact that's what I like about it. I can spam it on lots of teamates to counter heavy pressure and spike heal those who really need it with Spirit Light/Mend Body & Soul.

I've found SLW to be effective in a few situations. People *do* underestimate the fact that it can be maintained on two targets, especially when you factor in spawning. I used it in The Eternal Grove, and in the Asura Main Quest when you have to protect the GOLEMS. It's nice to have because it's fire and forget, but, as most others have said, when you NEED active play (which is in most cases), Offering of Spirit and WoR are pretty much king.

SLW has nice regen, but its not enought for a short period of time. You can heal so much more with [skill]spirit light[/skill] ands its not an elite.
But [skill]weapon of remedy[/skill] is win in pve.
