when your lvl 20 you can change it, or when you reach the desert.
Will take sometime before you get there though ...

I had a N/R that I used in prophecies. I used a combination of blood skills and beast mastery attacks until I got to the desert. I would discourage using such a build when you get to lvl 20 and access to better skills, but for getting through prophecies, it worked just fine for me. I believe my skill bar had something like the following:
[skill]Vampiric Gaze[/skill][skill]Feral Lunge[/skill][skill]Dark Pact[/skill][skill]Life Siphon[/skill][skill]Comfort Animal[/skill][skill]Charm Animal[/skill]
I don't remember what else I used, but the rest is pretty optional I believe.
Basically you can spam dark pact and vamp gaze with Feral Lunge in the middle to produce some decent single target dps.
If you don't want to delete your character, you should be fine using either something like this or a skill bar that uses only necro primary skills, but monk is a good idea to switch to once you get through the desert and can change.

As Archon said, you could set up a skill bar that uses only Necro skills. Many of the popular builds can be at least approximated that way.
But, on the other hand, it's a long way to the desert - I'd say that since you only have 2 weeks invested in the character, you could delete it and restart it as a N/Mo, which may be more flexible until you can get to change your secondary (and you get to use a 'hard' rez like Rez or Rebirth instead of a once only Rez Signet, and self heals such as Healing Breeze. Also useful for trying a minion master build using Heal Area.

Incorrect. You really can easily play as a N/R to desert, while that combination does not offer much, you can use only nec skills and using blood magic, you have enough self heal anyway, without monk skills.

I went through Droknar's Forge as a N/W. It's doable. Every class combo is able to play it's way through, I'm sure.

I think every profession has a pretty decent build that uses only the primary profession's skills and attributes. In other word, look for a N/any build with Core/Prophecies skills. Restarting isn't worth the trouble just to get a different secondary profession, you won't really have enough attribute points to benefit much from your secondary until you're high level (if you can call it that in GW).

You didnt make a mistake, you can play with every secondary you choose in pre searing, and with any weapon, for example i beated tyria with starter weapon, with necro, i was an mm most of the time, too lazy to buy ghial staff.
Dont worry on secondary, you can change that, when you get to desert.

I wouldn't worry at all mate, I chose W/N with my first character and regretted it until I changed my proffession.
What you could do if your really not happy is start a new character and play through the game, then pick up on your Necro again and just get run into the desert. :P

dont worry, you can change later in the game (desert) but you can also go to pvp island and change secondary but it will cost you 500 gold to do so.

OP: My first character was N/R, therei s nothing really bad with that combination, if you dont like it you can awalys go pure necro build or just very use little from ranger (defensive stance/run skill) and change later in game, its nothing to really start character over because of.
Besides, ranger unlocks you gain thanks to this can be worth it.

Honestly, not to offend anyone, but running Ranger skills on a necro is noobie and very bad considering what you could be doing. Most necromancers use N/Me or N/Mo for two reasons. The N/Me uses arcane echo to duplicate Spiteful Spirit, and elite skill that you can get in the southern shiverpeaks. The N/Mo is usually a Minion Master that uses Heal Area and possibly Healing Breeze to heal minions and self heal.
Making a N/R isn't all bad because, as previously stated, you can change your secondary later in the game. Where you are at right now however, I would suggest just using a minion master bar with the following added in to spice things up and add an additional meat shield for you. I wouldn't put anything into beast mastery, just let him run around.
[skill]charm animal[/skill][skill]comfort animal[/skill]

if i remember correctly once you get to LA you can go to the battle isles. at that point you can change your secondary by the secondary profession changer. costs you 500g per change. i suggest monk.
