Hey, I've been browsing the forums for this quite a while now, but still not sure of the answer :s

What's, in your opinion, the single most effective way to solo UW?

Honestly, I'd think the Terratank Elementalist build is probably still the most effective soloing method, when you are going for time spent compared to the amount of content cleared (Smite runs only take a few minutes, but that's just about all you can do).

I agree that the Stoneflesh/Sandstorm build is fastest at clearing the smites. TheG rasping Darknesses is a pian because they interrupt 1/4s spells with Distracting Blow and despite using Sympathetic Visage, they still have plenty of energy to spam interrupts. Anets little dig at farmers I believe.

The other efficient ways of doing this are mostly duo builds but have a broader killing spectrum than just Smite Crawlers.

In my experience the W/Rt Vengeful build is fastest at clearing the smites/graspings. Never encountered a solo build which can clear the entire UW.

If you're looking for speed, I suggest you use the Terra tank, but if you want a higher chance of surviving, then use the W/Rt VwK build, or the W/Me build Dont feel no pain posted. These aren't the only builds of course, there are several other builds that are effective.

Terra Tank
W/Rt VwK Build
Dont feel no pain's Build

However, if you're looking to clear all of the UW or most of, the only way (Unless you think of your own build, or get it off someone who has it) is to go in groups with friends and Guild mates.

RezDogg's 330HP Vengeful Spirit Bonder!
Although it's a little bit difficult to use, and hard to deal with the Grasps' Skull Crack and the Dazed condition, you can clear all the Aatxes, Grasps, and Smites, in Hard Mode. If you're only going to the UW for Ectos however, I suggest you use one of the Normal Mode builds since Materials are exempt from loot scaling and all that.

In My honest opinion Dont Feel No Pain's W/Me Build works wonders and is the most effective way to farm the UW. If you would like a little more leeway and saftey, Try the w/rt VwK build, its safer but much slower.

for uw i like the rit/w build with glad's defense and a normal 55hp ss necro.
The rt/w is very fast for smiterrun and the necro can clear aatxes and smites very fast.
I haven't tried the new w/me build, which seems also very fast

Ele is fastest, if you can do it right. VwK warrior is the safest in my experience, and all though I don't have one, the 330 Rt/Mo build that was posted earlier is supposed to be really good.

The only build that can solo the Underworld in Hard Mode is the 330HP build, and maybe a couple of others, such as Fuzzy Taco's 55SV build. Everything else is in Normal Mode.

I vote for the dual UW build by ReZDoGG that uses a Wanderlust spirit spammer and the 330hp ritualist. Maybe only because I seem to get better drops in dual :P

Wait.. you mean... You did it in HM? Wow I thought it was just NM for Terra Tank. Well, if you wanna do it in ~10 minutes that is.

Man, I must've been wasting all that platinum on my Elementalist if you could really solo HM it... Why didn't I ever try??? Are you sure they don't hit so hard that it goes through

if you're going in for ectos in Normal Mode, terra tanks, W/Rt VwK builds, and Rt/W Glad's defense channelers are all awesome builds for that purpose, my favorite being the terra tank.

in Hard Mode, however, i love 55hp SS necros. they can quickly solo aatxes, grasps, smites, coldfires, and, if you're lucky, terrorwebs, obby behemoths, and charged blacknesses. ReZDoGG's 330 rit is a great build for HM UW, but it has a difficult time with grasps.

Well, it's not just the Ectos that are the goodies of the Underworld. These weapons are very rare (If you're talking about low req. ones), but you still have a chance of getting items like Ghostly Staves, Eternal Weapons, Storm Bows, and maybe a few other weapons.

cuz of that i farm it in NM, ecto is what i go after.

Terratank and Vengful Rit farmer were nice til the changes to Rend Enchts, but they are still very doable just not as safe as they once were.

W/Rt is safe but slow
D/Me is safe (once you learn it) and is pretty fast
W/Me is fast but not as safe but is worth it when you get it down

those were the main ones ive ever used
