Burning Duration Question (Searing Flames)
Hello Elementalists.
I'm playing an Elementalist and she's using:
Rodgort's Invocation, Searing Flames, Liquid Flame, Glowing Gaze (of course Fire Attunement, Glyph of Lesser Energy too). Pretty much the basics on area of effect spells and I can say I'm having a LOT of fun seeing all those 100+ numbers coming up when I cast my magic.
My question is about Burning durations, as I'm getting a little confused and I need to know it to use SF and GG better.
Question: Suppose I hit a group with RI, they start burning for 3 seconds. If I follow up with SF, they'll all take damage, but will the burning duration be increased to 7 seconds (SF duration)? Another example, suppose I hit with SF first (they take no damage but begin burning for 7 secs), my follow up SF will reset the burning duration to 7 seconds, or just do the damage?
From my observations it is not refreshing the burning duration, but I'd like to hear from the most experienced. I'd appreciate hints on increasing burning durations please. It really helps the damage and my energy management with GG (even though my Energy is on the 90's, I sometimes still run out).
Thanks much.

I was under the impression Searing Flames only sets a foe burning if they are not already burning. If they are already on fire then it does it's direct damage thing. Best to hit them with SF straight after RI, then follow up with another SF once the fires have gone out.
Cheers.

If it did cause burning AND damage, then yes, the duration would be refreshed.
But it doesn't, so...

There's really no point in running invocation on a SF bar. It's really expensive, and really doesn't add much. If you're trying to avoid wasting casts on just causing burning, you can use glyph of immolation or mark of rodgort. Glyph makes SF do damage every time by causing burning before SF is calculated (bad wording). Mark ensures you can keep spamming on a group, and they'll always be burning.

Agree, SF and a burning skill are all you really need for damage. Throw in some monk spells. =)
RI is more for a dual attune or Mind Blast bar.

Spamming searing flames will get you better results than using rodgorts.
P.S. are you iQ?

Yes SF gets better dps, but that burning function really can hurt sf if the person loses burning before it goes off.

What?
Well I'll try Mark of Rodgort then, and the suggested combinations (SF+MoR, RI+MB). Thanks everyone.

Yea thats how to do it. You use mind blast + rodgorts invocation, OR Searing flames and Mark of Rodgort.
But never ever Searing Flames and Rodgorts Inovocation. That is just seriously bad for your energy.
