so whats the most basic build?
Hey I know I shouldn't be asking for builds *Or I feel I shouldn't* but I have a question since i am failsauce at this game.
I haven't played an ele in a long time and I was wondering what a BASIC pve build would be just to get through the prophecies campaign? I'm at lvl 18 with not many skills, I'm just looking to do some damage and get through my last few missions with my friends. I only have prophecies

[skill]elemental attunement[/skill][skill]fire attunement[/skill][skill]fireball[/skill][skill]rodgort's invocation[/skill]
is the 'core' of a Proph-only Fire guy; the most 'basic' build.
Throw onto that whatever other skills you have or might find useful - [skill=text]aegis[/skill], [skill=text]ward against melee[/skill] or [skill=text]blinding flash[/skill] for defense; [skill=text]aura of restoration[/skill] to cover your enchantments; or [skill=text]immolate[/skill] or [skill=text]searing heat[/skill] for more damage are worth looking at.
and [skill=text]Meteor Shower[/skill], while popular, isn't generally worth it - it takes ages to cast and has a stupid recharge for, essentially, not much effect.

In all seriousness, before Searing Flames, lots of Prophers would echo nuke:
[skill]Arcane Echo[/skill][skill]Meteor Shower[/skill]
Other useful skills are:
[skill]Rodgort's Invocation[/skill][skill]Fire Attunement[/skill][skill]Fireball[/skill]

Ele Attune + High cost fire skills is good AoE damage, but in some places you may want less aoe and more of a different role...
Then you should consider water builds:
Water Trident, Ice Spikes/Deep Freeze etc that prevent foe movement.
Or simply high single damage to one target:
Ele Attune, Air Magic, Lightning Hammer, Orb, etc
But considering you're level 18 I dont think you have any elites yet, so for now just run with what skills you have, and try and get the elites asap.

Nothing else matters.
Honestly though...
Edit: Removed that build, it was pretty ugly.

Bad. In PvE you should nuke foes, not snare them.

Don't go water. Go fire for the nuking. On the bright side, water trident is fun fun fun in pvp.

I agree with stormloard alex. You dont need anything more than ele attunement, fire attunement, rodgorts invocation, fireball. Finish them off with a rez (a monk one of your choice), immolate (cheap spamable while everything else is recharging), meteor shower and glyph of sacrifice. Thats basically a pre anything but propecies build (oh back in the day) that should serve you just fine. A possible alteration is to swap immolate for incendry bonds (but its not a spell im a fan of, not for any particular reason, I just dont use it much).

Dont worry about that then, swap glyph sac for glyph of lesser and if you can use a mesmer secondary spec into inspiration and take something for energy, maybe power drain if you fancy tryin out a bit of interupting, otherwise energy tap or something similar maybe.
I'd try to get ele attunement as soon as you can, you can cap it on perdition rock, its the best ele elite in prophecies, beats everything else hands down.
You could try glyph of energy and glyph of lesser energy in the same build but I'm not to sure how well that will work and I imagine if you havent got ele attune, you wont have been up to mineral sptings for glyph of energy.

Mesmer is a popular choice. Monk is also good - its always safe and reliable.

I hated my Ele/Me in Prophecies, in fact, now that I can change the characters secondary profession, I'm changing it to a Necro.
In Nightfall I made a E/N and for me it's the perfect build and much much more useful for my style of playing than my ele/me ever was. I keep my heros back with me, use my shambling horrors to run ahead to attack since they're mindless aggressive little buggers. Then, when the enemies mob around the shambling horrors, I come in and nuke the bad guys then release my heros. Works every time and my heros come out with nary a scratch.
If I get melee'ed I use what I personally call a 'stomp spell' like Inferno (deals damage to enemies around me) then quickly hit "Consume Corpse" getting me out of there and giving me energy and health. Soul Feast works well too and does a great job of filling my heath bar back up.
Everyone has a different playing style and to each their own, but for an Ele I think a necro secondary works very well.

I easily make over 5k a day just running around exploring, which I love to do anyway so the money is always a good side effect. And I only play a few hours a day, so it's not like I'm at it all day.
anyway, I think this is highjacking the thread... just realized... sorry!

Go as a smiter with a 600 monk, without any ectos you get at least 4k in 40 minutes. In UW of course. Check pvx wiki for details.
