The funny thing is, Droknar's Reaper is about as good a Melandru scythe as you can get (arguably 15%^50 might be better), and it's quite easy to come by.

I use zealous 15^50 20%ench mostly, but I carry sundering, vamp, ebon and shocking in my backpack just incase. vamp and shocking is mostly used for pvp though :\ yay for easy +1s

anyways, perfect weapon setup imo would be:

Maverick summed it up well.

In pve, Sundering will be even less attractive when you start fighting stuff with high armor and lvl24+ enemies that will lower your crit hit rate.

The purpose of a sundering mod is for the burst damage, while it doesn't carry the DPS of a Vampiric, you don't want DPS when you're spiking

You can swap to an enchanting weapon to cast; the only time I see using an enchanting mod on the primary weapon is if you're using a spell that has to be cycled frequently. If the only enchants on your bar are AoHM and Eternal Aura, you should probably stick to the fortitude mod.

Enchanting on your main weapon is worthless. I really only use 2 enchantments at most - Heart of Fury & AoHM (in PvE) - both of which only need to be recasted once every 25-30 seconds. Have a hsr10%, +20% one hand and hsr10% focus for casting enchantments.

As for defense/fortitude, ideally the best would be +5 armor on your main weapon with a +60hp weapon swap; that way you get the benefit of the damage reduction of +5 armor and the health bonus when you need it. However, there are only four weapon slots <_<

It's not worthless, but if you really wanted to manage detail a little bit further in exchange for getting a little bit more out of the character, yes, you could use a casting swap for enchantments. Considering the lag waiting for weapon switches to go through, though, I honestly couldn't be bothered.

As for damage...if u like to go hunting for a Chunk of Drake Flesh, as I do, hits of 198 are common for me against these weak monsters, and I have gotten black dye drops from Drakes as well, although I'm sure its not because
of using an Ancient...(just a little insight there). I find the weapon stats listed here truly sufficient that go very well with my build...many times, in a party of 8, I am the last one standing...

Tanks are also usually the last ones standing. That doesn't make them, their equipment, or their builds good though.

As others have said, Sundering < Vamp for DPS.
