Mantra of earth, stone striker
Um i suppose he must be pure genious and origional, its only been on the old form of wiki since nightfall came out, called "terra-Tank".
eles in ab used to use it a bit, but its been outdated, no-one wanted to use it because it has not asmuch self heal potential, whereas E/D had mystic regen, try finding a good self heal in the ele or mesmer line.
But well done to the poster above who had more sense

I never once said it was new. I was just wondering if anyone had Mesmer build using it.

Only used in solo builds.
Packing two skills (and some large investment in both attributes) for some mediocre damage reduction isn't great.
Prot Spirit from a monk is better,

works well for RA. As opposed to ether feast + random e-management, which really can't cut it.

I have come across this a couple of few times in RA, i must say its nice when enemy mesmers gimp themselve's like that, though i would not be so amused if one of these guys was on my team.

gimp? you think power drain and ether feast will save you from any sort of spike? Not only does mantra reduce all damage by half and give you energy when you're under attack (which is when you need it), but you reduce the load on your monk and absorb damage which would have hit for a lot more on someone else.
frankly I would not be so amused if you were on my team. r3 glad and I started RA mid-december.

what kind of spike are we talking about in RA? a physical spike is handled better by some instance of block and a caster spike handled better by powerleak. the mantra/stone striker defense works in pve when you know the opponents skill bars and thus know it works, in RA an enchant removal or chaos/holy damage destroys your 2 slot "defense".
and yes using 2 slots for a mediocre defense IS gimping your bar with NO utility coming from it (and dont give me "energy management" because if you're being hit on enough to make it good management you'll be dead regardless of the 40% damage reduction on SOME forms of damage)
the main reason its a bad defense combo is you still get HIT, this means they gain adren, they inflict conditions, they deal damage, they gain energy (mind blast etc.) and so on.. and this is assuming they dont have a dom mesmer shattering you :O

Block? With what, distortion? I always bring pleak and it is a waste to use it on an ele when there are necros, mesmers, and monks there. There is always a war or sin on an RA team that will wail on you. So that is energy management. Not as good as pdrain but it is serving a double purpose. Can't tell you how many times I've survived being dazed/sin chain/whatever. And that translates into winning. Of course it's not as good as a prot monk but from your tone you'd be surprised how much more lifetime that mediocre defense gives you. But I guess if you don't believe me that's that. See you on the battlefield.

It's funny to hear the RA arguments. If you're in earth, bring something useful like ward vs melee.
Anyway, the combo is great for farming. Mesmers can do the old Sandstorm Smite farmer about as well.

Tried it once. Didn't really like it. As others have said, the damage reduction to energy is great, but your offense is earth magic... so gg.

Sure there are some warrior's who will attack you, its RA after all (where this combo belongs), so you have dedicated 2 slots of your bar which will only help you against bad players. There are however some half decent players in RA who see what you are doing, ignore you and simply kill the rest of your team. Mesmer bars are cramped enough without wasting slots, if you must have some defence take a ward, at least that way you can help out your team. In any case i doubt you are going to be convinced as you seem quite fond of the combo and thats fine, its just more glads for the rest of us.
