Question about death leveling a pet
So I finally got round to making the pure beast master that I've wanted for ages, and to cut a long story short died halfway through the survivor title. Anyways, I then decided that seeing as there was no fun in continuing with the pet I had (for some reason he was evolving to Hearty, despite the fact I constantly maintained Symbiotic Bond and Call of Protection, along with Enraged Lunge and Feral Aggression for damage) so I let him go and am currently in the process of death leveling another tiger so I'll have a dire pet which will actually be useful.
My problem is that since he hit level 11 and evolved to aggressive, every time I die he wanders so far away from the res shrine that I have to manually go get him. Although I have nothing else to be doing (sad, I know) it is kind of boring. I was just wondering if anyone might know why this is? As far as I know aggressive and dire pets aren't faster than any other, but I could be wrong.
And yes, I do know about the other more reliable and (slightly) less boring ways of dire leveling a pet (my Ele has a dire white tiger, took 8 hours to get it there), this is (was) just a time saving venture on my part!

I'm not sure how to answer your question...I just used the master of damage to level my charmed pets to Dire.... Death Leveling sounds like a huge pain in the neck. (especially if I am hearing your dillema correctly- I am not sure I am tho)

Ok so maybe my first post wasn't quite as clear as it could have been...
I went to Sunqua Vale, found a tiger, aggroed it, went to res shrine, and then went AFK. I came back about and hour and a half later, to see that the pet had got to level 11 and evolved to aggressive, but was no longer repeatedly killing me. So I aggroed it again, took it back to the res shrine, and let it kill me. That time and ever since, by the time I have been resurrected, the pet has wandered back to its start point.
This means that I have to manually keep aggroing it. Just wondering if anyone knew what changed to make this happen.

I dont use death leveling, but I think most that do use a hero to re-rez themselves instead of the shrine...
All the reading I did on the subject lead me to believe there had to be another way, and there is... You can charm pets normally, and then use the Master of Damage (in the Isle of the Nameless) to rack up the damage total of your pets while they take no damage in return. I would take my pets through a few areas to get them levels then go to the master of damage and let them wail on him for half an hour or so while semi-AFK. Master of Damage tracks your damage for 3 minutes while you attack him, and one 3 minute span is enough for your pet to do thousands of points of damage while taking none. I used this technique to get my pet and my 3 favorite hero's pets up to dire all at once, and while tedious in it's own way doesn't seem as difficult and tedious as death leveling.
Using the shrine to death level like you are describing is probably leaving too much time between the time you die and the time you rez (about 10 seconds later, as opposed to Rez spells which work much faster) and the animal is losing aggro in that time and returning to where it "belongs" in the area.

death leveling
a year ago i started in pre. in pre if you gain level 20 you get a tile legendary defender of ascalon, in order to get levl 20 you had to death level charr. sometimes they would run away and sometimes they wouldnt, you have to get them stuck on the rez shrine so when they try to run away they wont be able to move. anyways bells about to ring gl mate

Well it took just under 3 1/2 hours, but my tiger is now dire I think I'll use the Isle of the Nameless suggestion in future, sounds marginally less tedious! Thanks for the quick replies, and for the helpful advice.

3 1/2 hours...nice
The Master of Damage method probably takes longer, and requires being semi-present to keep re-engaging your attack.... but I used the extra time at the master of damage to do a lot of research on my builds and skill-tweaking while trying to evolve my pets.
Glad to hear it all worked out for you though

This is a great way to lvl your pets. I haven't seen a guide anywheres on how to do this, but I figured it out on my own. I will post a guide somewheres, but not sure what category it should be in.
This technique only takes about 30-40 min to get your pet to lvl 20 and make it Dire before you Tame it. There is no need for a shrine doing it this way, that way takes waaay too long.
Idea of this is to begin charming it, and cancel the charm before it finishes, and let it stay hostile and let it attack you, and eventually kill you to lvl itself up.
Quickest way to do this is get a hero monk with any healing skills including Orison Of Healing, Resurrect, and Res Chant... Disable All healing skills besides Resurrect, until you get 60dp. Flag your monk down just out of earshot, and put him to "Avoid Combat". For your ranger, all you need is charm, and nothin else. Put 2 sup runes on your armor, and 1 major rune of any kind, with Sup vigor...If you only have Minor or Major Vigor, make up the difference with Vitae runes. Minor = 2 Vitae, Major = 1 Vitae, Sup = None. When you get down to 60 dp you will only have around 6-10 hp. Make sure not to be holding any weapons that give +30hp, and don't put anymore health sacrificing runes on or you will die over and over without being able to charm once your down to 60dp. And with this low amount of health, once you get down to 60 dp and have under 10hp, your pet will beable to kill you with 1-3 hits. The will kill you to gain exp to level themselves up to desired level. This is Basically the fastest way to level your pet and make them Dire at the same time... faster than what is suggested on Wiki. It only takes about 30-40 minutes (maybe less) compared to acouple hours.
================================================== =======
1. Make sure you got your armor with right amount of hp sacrificing runes to ensure that you have 5-10 hp when you get down to 60dp.
2.Flag your Hero Monk just outside earshot, where you will be standing, and set to Avoid Combat. Disable all other skills besides Ressurect. Once you get 60dp, enable Orison of Healing...so your monk can heal himself if needed. (the Monk will heal you after you are res'd... but the healing won't do much, and you will still die in one hit by your pet. Aslong as you got around 10hp)
3.Begin Charming your new pet, and cancel it out before it finishes. Let it attack you, and eventually kill you until you got 60dp...and the power levelin will begin for your new pet. (your monk will res you soon as you die, and will heal himself if needed)
4.You can go AFK until your pet reaches level 20. Your pet needs to reach lvl 15+ without dying to be Dire. But why not get Dire and Level it to 20?
5.Once your pet reaches level 20 and ready to charm, enable your Monks skills and use Res Chant to Res yourself. Once your are res'd, quickly take off any armor with Sup or Major Runes (besides Vigor). Or you can simply change armors, or put equip any weapons with HP bonuses. This way your pet won't kill you in one hit and beable to stay alive while you charm it. Your monk will also help keep you alive while you charm.
6. Enjoy your new lvl 20 Dire pet... that only took around 30-40 minutes to level
Note: Make sure you can find a pet in an area that won't require you to take a full group and clear any enemies. You and Monk alone is best. I have never done it with full group of henches, and I am not sure if having a full group lowers the pets Exp when he kills you.
