There's been a flood of these shields lately on the market. I've noticed there's been at least 2-3 inscribable magmas shields being sold in Kamadan at any given moment the last couple of days i've been there. I saw the old thread on guru that discussed farming a few chests during a quest somewhere in the Realm of Torment, but i've tried that myself and have found barely anything, nevertheless a Magmas Shield. It could be the Zaishen/UW/FoW chests have been spewing out Magmas Shields like crazy lately, but i'm not too sure i'd believe that. Indeed these shields are rare, and there ARE known places where they drop, but with so many being sold i'm led to think there's a new dungeon or something where these are being found at.

All the info on these that i've looked up from fansites, wikis, etc. all seem to be inconsistent with eachother. Is there a dungeon chest that drops these in a recent update or something, possibly? I'm just looking for a reason why so many of these are being sold by all different people, more importantly where are they getting them from?

they drop fairly frequently from FoW runs, that's probley why you've noticed alot more recently. That and the monthly Z-chest poping spike from the tourny point rewards.

I am not sure what you are referring to here since magma shields don't drop in fow except from the completion chest and purple only versions from the quest reward chests. I don't see how that is common at all.

I know of about 5 magmas shields that have dropped from HM FoW end chest in the past month. Seeing as there are lots of people doing FoW, most of them are probably coming from there. Of course I'm sure 1000+ items are dropped from the zaishen chest daily, so I'm sure lots come from there too.

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear enough, but I thought it was pretty common knowledge that inless someone includes the word "chest" next to run, said run is, infact, not actualy a chest run.
The FoW run I was refering to is a complete trip through the area which typically leads to the only means of obtaining an inscriptable drop in FoW, and as Arkantos also described my previous post in depth, nothing more need be said.

Defending something outside of gate of secrets in the gate of pain. Titans spawn there, and you can 55 SV them. many magmas' drop there, and so do their chests. aalso, the chest run there spawns many tyrian chests which has eternal shields, bows, storm bows, and stuff.

ive personally gotten 2 req12s from a fow end chest, my friend got a req9, and ive seen 2 drop in parties of mine in end fow chests... they are everywhere, and thats why they are dropping

it doesn't it's just a lucky spawn, you just gotta run to there and look if there is a chest don't remember the name but think it's a margonite chest or something, most of the time there is one in 20 runs

I've been running the holding the line quest, so far 85 runs 17 chest spawns.
No magmas, couple whites from drops but none from chests.
Yes I could buy it for cheaper

You can either run the quest, or you can 55 it(Mo/N or N/Mo, with Spoil Victor works quite nicely), which takes longer, but you have a bigger chance of getting a chest, as sometimes one spawns after killing some of the titans. Not to mention the titans can drop Magmas too; max purple R9's or blue R8's still go for 100k+

If you're planning on farming it (rather than running), don't expect to get rich quick. You will make profit, regardless if you get a magmas shield or not, but it's a boring and tedious farm. If you have any questions let me know, I have done this farm so much times, its not even funny anymore .___.

i *think* they changed it so the chest doesn't spawn during Holding the Line. yes, occasionally there is a pre-existing chest there, but it will not drop the magmas shield. it has to be a chest that spawns after some of the titans have been killed. and I haven't got that to happen in a looong time.

and don't forget URSAN...those crazy c-spacing bastiches and their 42-min HM FOW runs!

When I was suffering from z-chest addiction, I had a q13 insc Magmas drop...which was promptly traded for 50k within 5 min. This prolly after 100's of z-keys.

i dont get this holding the line quest. Is this chest a normal chest that you open with a key? or is it one of those keyless chest like that in Kilroy?
