I came from playing a WoW rogue to GW a bit after Factions came out. My rogue in WoW pre-BC was epicced out, and I raided hardcore and used my nice little toys to dominate duels and pvp.
I was half expecting the assassin to be similar to the WoW rogue, in the concept that i'm going to kill you through speed, agility, and finesse; rather than lower my head and keep running forward till you die. I was never a big fan of brute force, which warriors represent in most MMOs. It just happens, there really is little place for a rogue-ish character in a warrior-centered game.

Guild wars was my first RPG so I had no idea, my friend said they would do DPS so i kinda thought that was what would happen.
My first sin failed miserably, however my new sin is godly .
I loved sins the second I got my r8 15>50 zodiac daggers for 30k lol, then I made one and had some fun
I personally love sins, but believe that shadowstepping should be altered to a stance:
For 3 Seconds you move 100% faster towards target foe. You cannot be targetted by spells or attacks (ala shadow form). This ends when you are adjacent to target foe.
Then add in the other clauses.
Within this function, you cant change direction so it prevents retarted game mechanic abuse.
Just my idea.
EDIT: Just noticed I went WAAAAAAAAAAAY off topic.

Sorry to derail breifly but I had almost exactly the same idea for Shadow Stepping i.e. a brief straight line ultra speed boost (maybe without player clipping cos you're a shadow).
Back on topic I think I only got half what I expected from my Assassin. Fast attacks and good damage are great but I had hoped for more battlefield control. I want to get absolutely ruined if caught unawares but I want to have some control over the battles I choose. To an extent that happens but I think Shadow Stepping may not have been the best tool for it. I'd love to be the guy zipping about shutting down casters and crippling warriors (balanced obviously). I think someone mentioned a melee mesmer earlier? That's what I really wanted.

I expected to deal masive ammounts of DPS or add in Spike skills for monks like KD then falling spider then signet of toxic shock or DB moebius for DPS. think they could use more healing but meh i dont want to have to heal in a party.
also i thought SF could be used to farm quickly... lets just say EOTN and NF opened up alot of doors for that. no dbout about it my sin can solo faster in many more areas and monsters than any other character i have.
also shadow stepping in to kill a monk that is getting healed by 2 other monks then shadow stepping out is fun =D (burning forest in FOW)
@SilverSlave are you talking PVP or PVE for shuting down casters?

Ok, I didn't put too much thought in the skill, just trying to explain my point of direction related skills.

Probably not. I remember when me and my guild were taking screenshots of all of us at the end of a FoW run...Everyone was looking forward on their screens, but not on everyone's screens. GW doesn't seem to care too much which way you're facing.
But, I can dream

I pictured quick damage + offensive support.
We got instagib + nerfs.
Go figure.

actually it probably is considering that scythes attack in a forward cone and shields used to affect only attacks from the front (I think, or else someone told me some very false info long ago)

Huh... it would be still the same as current shadow steps meaning you would drop you're item, and the same effect would be in pvp as in pve, like a COMPLETE change to shadow stepping.

Coming from Dark Age of Camelot, I first expected some type of stealth system, where you press the button and you can't be seen by anyone for a set amount of time, or unless you got too close or something o.o;
It was definitely cool to be able to walk amidst players in the low-level battlegrounds undetected with a big two-handed cleaver on my back and then one shot a squishy mage and run away again =P (Anyone who's played the game knows what I'm talking about)
But I'm still not sure whether I prefer shadow-stepping or the age-old stealth systems...

I pretty much expected the sin to be like...well like almost every other MMORPG around...i figured a sin could stealth walk of some sort and basically pwn if he could get an ambush...much like every other MMORPG (i.e. WoW, Neverwinter Nights)
